Dear Austin...

You're Not Alone

Five Days Later...

"I finally listened to Of Mice and Men." Sara stated proudly. I beamed to her. The afternoon sun radiated down on the beautiful Friday. The white blossomed trees frantically waved goodbye to the students that piled into cars. The birds patiently circled above, acting as sentinel guardians for those awaiting a vehicle to pick them up.

Sara and I were sitting on a faded bench. We shared a set of headphones, and she let some Pierce the Veil songs flow through the tiny white buds. I leaned back against the bench, just letting the weekend effect sink in. But this wasn't any ordinary weekend.

It was the last day of school! We were both ecstatic.

"I'm glad you finally gave them a chance. How do you like them?" I asked her. She smiled and bobbed her head to the tune.

"They're great. I'll have to download their The Flood album. I really like the songs on there." She replied. I couldn't help but grin. This morning I had told her about my mom and the letter I had sent. She was both sad for my mom and happy that I now had a topic to write about in the letter. We sat in sweet silence for the moment, both of us watching the cars pass by. None of them belonged to us.

"So, do you think that Austin will reply to the letter?" She asked cautiously. I shook my head. That was one fact I came to terms with. There would be no response from Austin, unfortunately. I understood he was busy. Nothing could change that, but I knew that at least he read the letter. If his word was true, and that was a word I believed, he said he reads all of his letters that he receives.

"Rae, you have to look at the bright side. Maybe he will answer back. Besides, he has gone through something like this with his own mother. He'll understand what you're feeling. You're not alone" She patted my shoulder in reaffirmation. I replied with a stiff bob of my head. I didn't want to think about my mom's pain right now.

"Sara, he's a popular artist, so it's not likely that he'll reply." I drearily argued. Sara rolled her eyes and stood up. I took out her headphone as she stuffed them into a pouch at her backpack's side. She spotted her car pulling up.

"See you later Rae. I hope you mom gets better." She yelled over her shoulder as I watched her disappear into the deep silver car. My own car would be here soon.

I couldn't help but think about her comments. Maybe a letter would arrive. Probably not, but it never hurt to check the mailbox.

This story has completely captured my full attention over the last few hours. I don't think I'll be able to sleep until I finish it. This is wonderful. I adore your writing and characters. Rae and Austin's relationship and the bond between Alan and lp are the most adorable freaking things ever. I've been laughing, wanting to cry, and majorly fangirling. This is beautiful and I love it so much. And the appearance of all of the various band members made me incredibly happy!
Okay back to reading.
