Dear Austin...

The Broken Horse

Alan's POV

"LP, you have a wonderful room." I mused as she grasped my hand and led me through an open door into her illuminated bedroom. Looking around at all the toys stacked on shelves and the books that crowded near the dolls and horse toys, I immediately spotted the toy horse she had described to me. The broken leg was obvious, but in a spot that showed that the girl played with it often.

"Thank you Alan." Her soft-spoken voice responded kindly. I loved this little girl! She led me to her desk, where she had drawn multiple pictures. A few were posted on her wall. She led me over so I could admire them. For being nine years old, she really had a talent for drawing.

"These are beautiful." I spoke out of awe. Her pale cheeks blushed profusely.

"Do you want to play with horses?" She asked again, still so soft that the fan almost overpowered her small voice. I nodded excitedly.

"Of course!" I exclaimed. She grinned and skipped over to her table top filled with horses to play with.

"You can pick anyone." She told me. I stared at all of them. There was a paint foal standing next to its mother. Three horses stood in a group. There was a jet black stallion, dapple grey mare, and a bay. Eventually after hard selection, I sat on the green carpet on the floor and gently took out the black stallion. LP stood up and disappeared by her bed's table. The light green bed sheet matched the spring colored walls. Everything screamed a in a joyous chorus of colors. The greens and blues and yellows told tales of the wonders of childhood.

LP reemerged with the tawny pony with a broken leg. I set down my jet black stallion on the carpet as I crossed my legs. She held out the pony for me to inspect.

Sure enough, the leg was badly damaged, but the hot-glue had repaired it. Lily-Pearl watched me inspect the horse.

"This was the horse that I was talking about. See? Everything can be fixed with a little hot-glue!" LP cried out happily. I smiled, but the tears dotted my eyes. I ruffled my bangs nervously before engulfing the little girl in front of me in an unexpected hug. She wrapped her arms around me, but was a little taken back. I held her shoulders as she looked me in the eye.

"You have to promise me something." I told her firmly. She smiled.

"Okey dokey, my Ginger Princess." She giggled lightly. I beamed to her.

"If your daddy breaks your horses again, you call me so I can fix your horses, okay?" I made her pinky promise, as she said she would call me. Although I was offering to fix the horses, I made a promise to myself, to try to keep her away from her father when he was like that.

"I'll leave my number with Rae, okay? That way you can call me." She nodded at the thought. I knew I would leave my number to Rae. I'm sure Austin would as well.

For the next hour, we both were rolling around on the floor in fits of laughter. Our horses went on magical flying rides, as well as galloping through the grass carpet. They rode in my beanie after Lily-Pearl snatched it off my head and made it into a bed for the horses to lie in. After that, it became a flying vehicle for the ponies.

At the end of the hour, we both were tired, lying on the floor after giggling to death. She took the horses and carefully placed them back on their white shelf before coming and sitting next to me. At this point, I didn't feel so much a baby sitter or the guy who got stuck with the younger sister, than the boy who was like a brother to her. We were sprawled in the middle of her room. We'd worn each other out.

LP let out a cute yawn and curled up with her head on my chest. Her light blonde hair crumpled up under her head. I didn't want to disturb her, so I tucked the hood of my sweatshirt under me as a pillow and resisted yawning myself. I let one hand straighten out her hair as I felt her breath even out under me.

Lily-Pearl was honestly one of the cutest little kids that I'd ever run across.

This story has completely captured my full attention over the last few hours. I don't think I'll be able to sleep until I finish it. This is wonderful. I adore your writing and characters. Rae and Austin's relationship and the bond between Alan and lp are the most adorable freaking things ever. I've been laughing, wanting to cry, and majorly fangirling. This is beautiful and I love it so much. And the appearance of all of the various band members made me incredibly happy!
Okay back to reading.
