What's So Good About Picking Up The Pieces? (Discontinued)

Tony's P.O.V.

I was downstairs, dressed and ready to go out for dinner. Danny smiled at me as I came down. I smiled at him, not really wanting to but also not wanting to upset my mom. We all headed out the door, getting into Danny's car.

"Lidia, I've got news." I whispered. I need to tell her about Mike and what happened and just-we also need to talk about that dress.

"What happened? Did that punk do something again?" She seethed.

"No, no! He did something unbelievable! We're official now and everyone practically knows now! I'm so excited! We spent the day at his house and we were gonna go skinny dipping bu-"

“You what?! How did it go?!" Lidia almost yelled. Danny and my mom looked at us for a second and then went back into their own little conversation.

"Shh! I backed out last second, but yea...I'm happy." I smiled. Lidia smiled back, putting her hand on my shoulder and giving me an assuring squeeze.

"Guess what I have to say?" Lidia beamed.

"What?" I asked.

"Guess."

"Um...You got asked out?"

"Close! Alex and I made it official today!" Lidia cheered. My jaw dropped. UGH. THAT SLEAZETHAT WAS GOING DOWN ON MY SISTER ONOURCOUCH?!

"Really?..." I asked.

"Yes! Oh my god, Tony, he's so sweet! You wanna know how he asked me?" Lidia asked, more amused than ever. I really didn't.

"Yea!" I smiled.

"He wrote a song for me! It was perfect, it was all cute and ugh, Tony!" Lidia hugged me tightly. I laughed at how excited she was. I guess I should be happy. I'm just mad how I'd found them and what they did at the rave or whatever.

"We're here!" Danny announced. I groaned, not wanting to even step into this restaurant. Danny can't just expect one dinner to make us feel like he's a perfect fit for my mom. My mom noticed my pout as we walked out of the car and leaned down close to my ear.

"Stop that. Don't make me look bad in front of Danny." She whispered, angrily. I rolled my eyes and nodded. I guess I shouldn't ruin my mom's chance at happiness here, should I? Who knows, he might be a good guy...or not.

"Tony, why don't you like Danny? He's a good guy." Lidia whispered to me, walking beside me.

"Because no one’s good enough for my mom. Remember what happened with her last boyfriend?” I may have said it a little too loud and Danny turned around. I really wish I hadn’t said anything because he came over next to me and started talking.

“Do you think I’m gonna leave your mother? I’m not a bad guy, Tony. I really like your mom.” Danny spoke to me. I looked up at him awkwardly. This is pretty awkward anyway. Imagine someone telling you they like your mother? It’s a bit odd.

“Of course I think you’re gonna leave her. Her last boyfriend did because he ‘met someone else’ and apparently that ‘someone else’ was better than my mom. I don’t want to see her heart broken again. What makes you think you’re any better for her?” I growled.

“I’m not a liar. And unlike that other guy, I have strong feelings for her and I’m here to stay.” Danny assured.

As much as I didn’t want to believe this guy, something about what he said made me feel like he was being honest and so I let it slide. I just can’t bear the thought of seeing my mom heartbroken again.
