Moon Dance

Telling Aurora to leave was a hard thing for me to do but, what was harder was watching how fast she left. It’s been a couple days now and I haven’t heard from her or Chris so I’m assuming everything is going well. I sat on the couch and continued working on my sketch of Aurora as Maggie jumped up next to me and laid her head on the paper.

“You still love me right Mags?”

She looks up at me with wide brown eyes and her tale thumps against the couch cushion and I give behind her ear a scratch. At least someone loves me I thought as I close my sketchbook and throw it on the table in front of me. I grabbed a pair of drumsticks and headed into the 2nd bedroom that I sound proofed so I could practice the drums. I closed the door, put in my ear buds and began drumming to whatever song was playing. After my muscles began to loosen up I just kept playing, and began to feel sweat beading up on my forehead as my breathing got heavier. I must have been completely lost in my own head or maybe the music because next thing I know I hear a crack and my hand has a sharp pain in it. I look down and see that both of my drumsticks are broken in half and a piece of wood has wedged itself in my hand. I had to the bathroom and run it under cold water as I pull out the piece of wood.

“Shit.”

It stings and I didn’t think the wood was that deep but none the less crimson ribbons of my own blood traveled down the drain as I got some bandages and wrapped my hand. I grab Maggie’s leash and whistle for her as she comes running up to the door.

“Let’s go for a walk girl, I can use the air.”

She barks in agreement and we head out into the cool evening air.
