Chapter 71 - What's Dead Can Never Die

Oli's POV

We sat and watched Hanley, so perfectly untouched by everything. He was ripping through the wrapping paper on his Christmas present, smiling and tapping his feet excitedly. For a moment, our family was back together. Just like it used to be, before Rain lost her sanity with this pregnancy.

The fire place crackled, and Rain seemed so usual and so perfect. She smiled and blabbered to Hanley, hanging up the cards on the fireplace and teaching him how to make paper snowflakes. I sat back with some warm whiskey and eggnog, leaning against the column that was wrapped in tinsel. The whole room smelt of ginger and cinnamon, and the light outside was fading.

Rain sat on my lap and whispered in my ear. "I love you." She said.

"I love you too." I wrapped my arms around her and buried her in my chest.

She was watching the fire. He head suddenly looked down at her stomach and she wrenched back slightly.

"Are you alright?" I placed my hands on her stomach.

"Yeah. Just a kick..." She whispered. Her tone had changed, and she was suddenly reminded of the baby growing inside her. She swallowed hard and a bead of sweat dribbled down the side of her face. Her eyes started to glow with self hatred and she clenched her fists.

"Rain. Please. Don't do anything. Don't ruin this for us." I tried to calm her by stroking her hair. "Don't make me lock you back up."

She calmly got up and walked slowly over to Hanley, and sat beside him. She must have listened to me, because she started to read his new books to him. He curled up on her lap and his eyes fluttered shut. "Come on." I said to him, lifting him up and cradling his head on my shoulder. "Let's get you to bed."

I carried him up the stairs, Rain following up behind me. I laid Hanley down into his bed and wrapped him up in his sheets. "Goodnight." I whispered, watching him roll over in his slumber. I kissed his head and shut off the lights. Closing the door behind me, I walked back out into the hall.

Rain was stood in the middle of the hall in a puddle. My eyes widened.

"My water broke..." She cried, grasping onto her stomach and crouching down onto the floor.

I gently picked her up and carried her into the bedroom. I propped her up with some pillows and bought her some warm water and hot towels. The moment we had been waiting for had finally arrived, on Christmas day.

Quality read, I love this story so much, can you check out my new story please? I'd appreciate it and wanna collab

Anyone who is reading this, I'm actually the writer of this story, I just deleted my tumblr account that was linked to this a while ago. I wrote this years and years ago, and I think it's pretty poorly written at the start, so apologies lmao. But anyway, I made a new account, I'm older now so my writing has gotten better, I'm taking English as an A level too so everything is good. I'm in the process of writing something new, but I'm totally annoyed with the lack of views it's getting. It's got a kind of similar story involving drugs and pregnancy and stuff so check it out? <3 Its called "On The Vacant Canvas, We Should Be Waiting", and I've based some parts of the story ie. drugs and fights etc. on experiences that actually happened to me and my friends so it's quite a personal story, as I think it should be.

@SparklyRainbows
Thankyou so much, I've been really good lately, and I hope that you can be too, and I'm glad you're enjoying it :) You better stay awesome too, hun <3

I just want to let you know, I stated until 6:03 in the morning, reading the ever loving fuck out of this. This story is amazin . First of all, this story spans over years, not months or days like most storie . Second of all, I have a real connection with both Oli and Rain (which is one of the character names in my story, too!!!). I struggle with self harm, alcohol, and drug abuse, and this chapter really connected with me especially. Whatever you're going through, I've never met you, but I believe in you. I'm proud that you're five (or more) days sober, and you definitely better keep it up. You're a strong person, and it's really awesome that you're doing good and writing an amazing story while you're at. Stay beautiful my lovely creature!!

I really felt the connection in this chapter with the Alcohol abuse. I really liked this update, a lot x
