Fresh Start Fever

Welcome Home

Leilani's POV:

I was woken by the driver shaking me roughly on the shoulder. I fluttered my eyes open suddenly with my arms up in defence pushed against his chest. This was a reflex from all the years having to protect myself and practically sleep with one eye open. I saw his ghost white face and relaxed after I realised what I was doing, almost angry at myself for scaring the poor man, I jumped out of the van quicker than lightening whilst letting go of his shirt.

"I'm sorry! I-I shouldn't have reacted like that, it's just um you know.." I trailed off not knowing how to apologise.

"Oh no, it's okay. I should know better than to wake up a prisoner like that," he understood, thank God. Although I was offended by the word 'prisoner'.

"You know I'm not a pri-" I was cut off by the driver.

"Oh yeah, sorry again. Well you're home, you've got your stuff and you're out of my van. My jobs done. Have a good life. See you never." It was an abrupt exit but again who was I to care I'd never see the man's face again. I turned to the driveway and huffed as I made my way to the front door. Thoughts running though my head about how my Dad would greet me, would he take me in open arms?

"Come on Lani, don't be ridiculous, he loves you no matter what you did, you were only looking out for yourself he knows that.." I was muttering under my own breath. "Fuck, I'm going crazy talking to myself again."

I was now standing outside the large wooden doors staring into the almost church like stained glass cut outs in the double doors. I lifted my hand to knock but hesitated. I was so scared to be back. What am I kidding, I lifted to knock again but before I could the door flung open revealing my Dad standing there. He hadn't changed, he still shaved all his hair off and his goatee was still as scruffy as it always was. He was wearing nice denim shorts and a red t-shirt. He never dressed up he must have been waiting for me to arrive. I just stared at him standing in the door way tears welling up at the bottom of my eyes at the uncomfortable ball welled up in my throat but I swallowed it not allowing myself to cry. I don't do that any more, in fact I don't think I'm capable of crying. It wasn't okay for me to be weak. I was pulled into my Dad's arms and I wrapped my arms tightly around his waist. It felt so good to see him again, to know human contact outside of the prison walls.

"Come in bub," he'd always called me that and it never got old, I'd always be his little girl. I took a seat on the large, leather, black couch in the lounge room placed in the exact same spot it was when I left. He sat on the chair across from me and suddenly I couldn't help but be angry.

"You know, you didn't come to my parole hearing to see if I'd get to come out or not, no one did. Not even Bryce.." I looked up to see the tears streaming down my Dad's cheeks. "You know it's not okay for you to be sad, you didn't get abandoned in there I didn't even know you still cared, I wasn't even told I was coming HERE until I was in the van." I was almost yelling, this made me even angrier I hated being angry at my Dad.

"I couldn't be there because I couldn't stand to lose you for three more years if they declined your parole. I never gave up on you, you're my baby girl. I tried to get Bryce to attend, he said he was busy with..." Dad stopped, I knew he almost said her name but it didn't matter I had to face the fact Bryce couldn't handle waiting around.

"Well I better go give Bryce and Cass a visit hey, he can give my ring to her instead." I jumped off the couch, bluntly leaving my Dad by himself. I went to my old room taking in the surroundings, the blue feature wall with my name in block letters across the wall and all my old pictures from my school formal. I chocked back more tears and ripped open my cupboard and pulled on my white lace dress and slipped on a black cardigan with a pair of plain black flip flops. I turned back around and my Dad was standing at the door of my bedroom, I ran up to him squeezing him one more time.

"Did you look after my car while I was gone?" As I asked he handed me my keys.

"I started it every week to stop the battery going flat, got a full tank at the moment. GO give him hell baby." I ran out the front door and jumped into my car. I drove for what felt like hours but was only twenty minutes. This time I didn't hesitate to knock in fact I pulled down on the handle of the door, unlocked. I proceeded to barge right into MY house.

"Honey I'm home," I yelled, extending the 'e' clearly filling the sentence with sarcasm. Within seconds Bryce came running around the corner of the hallway. He embraced me tightly acting as if I didn't know about his little affair. I pulled back from his grip and slapped him right across the brunt of his cheek. He stood back looking at me absolutely confused and all I could do was laugh.

"You really think I wouldn't find out about that bitch?" I spat out emphasising the 'b'. "You think because I'm behind bars I wouldn't find out fuck all? Huh? I was the top of the fucking ladder in that place Bryce, I had fucking connections. Don't you understand? I knew every thing you were doing so don't give me the bullshit about not doing it any more because the second I was in that place you turned your back on me you pig!" I couldn't help but keep screaming at him. My face must have been as red as a tomato.

"I- I'm sorry, I was scared of being alone," he was looking down at the ground too ashamed to even look at me in the face.

"You fucking heartless prick!" I laughed as I said it, "You were scared, holy fuck, I was shoved in a prison with women who were willing to import drugs through children into a prison, kill me with a god damn pen for a bit of power, willing to fuck the guards to cut a drug deal and rape me for a bit of action because they missed the cock to much. You weren't alone, you were desperate," I mumbled this and without saying another word I pulled off my ring, placed it in his hand and walked out without giving him another moment to explain or apologise. There was nothing else to say.

I jumped back into my car and drove down the highway until I reached the Brisbane City exit and made the turn off, I needed a coffee and something new, a change.

Austin's POV:

Me and the guys had a couple of days off before our first concert so we spent our first day wondering around the city doing a bit of shopping in the massive Queen Street Mall. We were running into fans left, right and centre. Of course they knew we were here so it was a given but I didn't mind it made them happy.

We went into a coffee shop near by, we all needed it to keep our eyes open while we still suffered from the jet lag. While in line I overheard the conversation of what seemed to be complete strangers. I turned my head slightly so it wasn't obvious I was being a sticky beak. I adjusted my ears to hear most of what I could only because the girl seemed so aggravated.

"Hey you were on TV like, what? Ten years ago now?" The man in about his late twenties was practically yelling in her ear at the back of the line.

"Eight actually, what's it matter to you?" Wow, she was blunt.

"Didn't you like ki-" He didn't even finish his sentence before she'd pushed her hand against his mouth shutting him up. I wonder what he was about to say for that reaction. Her movement had made everyone turn to stare at her. Her long blonde hair was pulled back in a messy ponytail and she was wearing pretty boring clothes for the city but who was I to judge, seemed like she was having a tough time but what she did next shocked everyone.

"You ever mutter a fucking word about anything I will shut you up for good, you hear me? What I did has nothing to do with you or any of you fuckers in this coffee place!" She was yelling, it was almost scary. She had the poor guy shoved up against the wall with her forearms pressed up against his throat but she wasn't just yelling at him she was looking at everyone in the shop. She put her attention back on the poor guy who looked like he literally needed a change of pants and set him back on the floor before whispering what sounded like "You got me?" as he nodded excessively. She was still whispering but it was all too low and everyone was still staring. I took this as my opportunity to settle her down. As I went to take my step out of line I felt a cold hand catch my arm. I looked back to see Alan staring at me with worried eyes.

"I know you're on some kind of mission to save the world and look out for everyone and save millions of peoples of lives but man she is fucking crazy let her cool down she'll leave him alone. He obviously said something to trigger her."

"Do I look like I can't handle a five foot girl with daddy issues?" I laughed and he let go of my arm as I stepped forward to go break up the situation that had created more than a bit of tension in the store. Customers were flooding out the door, too scared to stick around, almost like they knew who they were. But then maybe they did the guy said she was on TV. Oh well.

I was behind her and the guy looked at me with eyes that pleaded for help. He was only small he couldn't get her off. Looking at me some guy that's six foot tall with a body covered in tattoos he probably thinks I can handle myself. I nodded to him and his expression relaxed. I placed my hand on her arm and before I could even tell her to let go of him she already had because her deadly grip was now on me while she had me held tight in a head lock that was nearly cutting off any air. What the fuck how is she doing this? The boys ran over all of them surrounding her and before they could touch her she spoke up.

"Don't fucking touch me, you all just saw what happened. You'll only end up like these two sad fucks that can't take down a little girl," she was pissed off and the boys jaws had nearly hit the floor as they backed away. She released her grip letting me stand up straight and inhale all the air back into my system.

"How?" Her eyes questioned me like I was asking a stupid question. "How did you do that? You're fucking tiny, how'd you get so strong?" She looked down as if she were too angry to deal with looking at anyone and before I could say any more she shot her head back up looking me dead in the eye and it was freaking me out that she could stare so harshly without blinking for so long.

Her lips parted and she exhaled letting all the redness flush from her face before she spoke, "You don't mess with a girl like me, you don't know what you're getting into." With that she turned around on her heels and practically ran out of the store without ordering anything. Everyone's eyes followed.

"What the hell was that all about?" It was Phil staring at me in shock.

"You guys obviously aren't from around here.." the cashier trailed off from behind the register. What did he mean what could be so bad about this girl?

"Who is she, you all seem to know her?" Aaron spoke up for the first time since we landed in Brisbane.

"You don't want to know man, you don't want to know," he repeated it sadly like it was a crime to speak about who she was.

Oh well I'd probably never see her again anyway.

Notes
