You can't just turn back time

Mike's P.O.V.

Today is picture day. The one day in the year where I actually dress up to look nice but still end up looking like crap. My best friend Tony never really cares about his school picture, that's probably just because he looks fucking great every year.

I walked up to the photographer, she told me to sit down with my hands on my lap. I had my hair hidden underneath my hat as usual, but this lady, as expected, took my hat off & started fixing my hair in the way she preferred. I moved my hair back to how I liked it & put my hat back on. The lady frowned & raised an eyebrow as if waiting for me to take it off.

"I'm not taking it off." I said.

"Fine." The lady started walking towards the camera. "Why are all you middle schoolers so damn stubborn?" She asked.

"I don't know, I guess it's a part of puberty." I spoke. The lady laughed & turned to her camera.

"Alright, big smile for me!" She cheered. Why are photographers always so cheery? What if I don't want to smile?

"Oh, you didn't smile." The lady spoke. "Let's try that again."

I smiled with my teeth this time & she finally let me go. I met up with Tony in the school gym & sat on the bleachers with him.

"Ugh, I hate picture day!" I groaned. Tony just laughed & layed back against the empty bleachers.

"You hate everything. Besides it's not that bad." Tony replied.

"You only say that because your pictures come out perfect every year!" I argued. Tony sat up.

"Not true!"

"But you never complain!"

"Just cause I don't complain, doesn't mean I like my pictures." There was a long pause before he spoke up again. "You're the one who comes out perfect everytime."

"I know I'm your best friend, but you don't have to lie." I replied.

"It's the truth. Anyway, you wanna eat today or not?" Tony asked, getting up to the sound of the bell.

"Eh...yea. I could use me some good food to forget about this terrible picture." I responded.

"You haven't even seen it yet."

"But I know how it'll look."

Tony & I walked over to the cafeteria & waited in line for our lunch. I grabbed two slices of pizza, a cupcake, an apple, & a soda. Tony was already sitting down at our usual table by the trash can & eating his usual. A spicy chicken sandwich & a water. We were chatting away, doing our thing when the Cool Cats walked over to us. God, they're so cool. I wish I could be a Cool Cat.

"You do realize everyone's supposed to look good on picture day, don't you?" Alan asked Tony. He's the leader of the Cool Cats. I just wish I could be like him.

"I look good everyday." Tony smiled back.

"Are you sure? Because I don't see your girlfriend anywhere." Alan laughed. "Oh wait, I forgot that's only because you're gay."

"I'm not gay..." Tony mumbled under his breath looking down at his food.

"Tony, it's alright to be gay. Just admit it." I spoke. Everyone laughed. Tony looked up at me in disbelief. This is the first time I've agreed with the Cool Cats. I don't mean to be rude to Tony at all, I just want the Cool Cats to like me...maybe I'll get accepted into their group, who knows, I could actually be popular this year.

"Mike, why do you hang around this gay turtle anyway? He's so weird. You're actually a pretty cool guy." Alan spoke. WOW. The Cool Cat's think I'm cool? This is awesome.

"Come sit with us." Austin spoke.

"Oka-...uhm...I can't...I usually eat lunch with Tony..." I was almost too excited to wait, I had to stop myself & remember Tony. I can't just leave him.

"C'mon! You don't want to stay around this loser for too long!"

"He's not a loser. I just..." I turned to look at Tony, this is what I've been waiting for since sixth grade. Tony knows how much I've admired the Cool Cats. "Tony...can I just sit with them for today?..." I asked. Tony stopped eating & just nodded not even looking up. I was so excited, I almost immediately stood up. The Cool Cat's & I walked to their lunch where all the other people surrounded us. The whole school loves them...& now they might even love me too.

Lunch was great, the Cool Cat's & I are even going to hang out tomorrow. I can't believe I got them to like me so much. Later that day I was in last period with Tony. He completely ignored me though. I don't even know why.

"Tony, are you mad?" I asked, leaning over trying not to be too loud for the teacher. Tony didn't say anything. I poked him a few times. Still nothing. Why is he mad? I didn't do anything.

"Tone...talk to me." I whispered. Still nothing.

"Tonyyy."

"What do you want, Mike?" Tony finally turned to me. He looked mad.

"Why are you mad?" I asked, once again.

"Are you kidding me? Why am I mad?" Tony asked, rolling his eyes.

"What?"

"You totally took their side today! You didn't even try to back me up! And then you ditched me at lunch!" Tony whispered angrily at me.

"You said it was okay!"

"I didn't think you'd actually go! What kind of best friend does that?!"

"Tony, I'm sorry...you just know how much I've wanted this...they even invited me to hang out with them tomorrow!" I was smiling from all the excitement rushing through me.

"That's great, Mike." Tony spoke. He turned around & looked at the board. The teacher was doing some math equations. I was so happy, today was great! I replayed everything in my head from lunch today. I might finally fit in.

Yayyy! I started a new story! xD This is only the beggining, so yes it might be a little boring. But don't leave yet! It will get better c;
