Blast the Alarm

Chapter Four

The guys sort of just spent the rest of their day hanging out, seeing as the respective members of the bands who had been awake to see the guy on TV insisted that they don't go outside no matter how nice it looked. By five or six, they were all ready to hit the hay for the night, even Vic and Jeremy were willing to go to sleep and both of them had been rather opposed to the idea for the past day or so.

"You and Tony can have the beds tonight," Jaime informs Vic as they all lay around and watch whatever episode of 'Family Guy' the local station was playing.

"Hey!" Mike protests.

"Too bad Mikey," Jaime responds, shoving the taller man playfully.

"Fuck off Preciado," Mike retorts, shoving him back before rolling onto his stomach and returning his attention back to the TV.

The picture suddenly cuts out and is replaced by the vaguely familiar face of the man from the prior night. Vic gasps.

"That's him!" He announces, pointing at the screen. "The guy that said to stay in!"
They all watch with bated breath as they wait for him to speak. Finally the man speaks, his voice thick and he sounds like he had just been running. "Frick. (pant) You guys all remember last night? If the poison in the air hasn't made you delusional by now, you'll be fine," he says, quickly, so fast it's hard to understand him. That seems to be the least of the worried right now. "Okay, that's not the point. Great Falls, your at the top of the list right now. If you don't get out of their right now you might as well kiss your asses good bye. They hadn't planned for you guys to actually survive the explosion in the first place. All you guys did was set off a chain reaction in your state and across the country. I've even heard that they're going off everywhere else in the world, but we'll never know.

"I'm getting off topic again. I don't have much longer before they track this signal. I'm not sure how many more times I can go through with this. So all I can say is, Montana, your gonna be the first to go. If you are still hearing this get out of there as fast as you can."

The boys exchange glances of utter shock. They weren't sure whether to be very scared or to just go with the idea that he was bullshitting them. And as tempting as the second one sounded, the rest of the guys had seen first hand the trust that he seemed to offer with out even having to do anything to gain it. They sit in a long silence, all unsure of what to say.

"Vic, did you see that?" the sound of Alex's voice rings from outside the door and breaks the silence.

"We did," Vic calls back hurrying to open the door.

"What do we do?" Alex asks, his voice trembling slightly.

Vic bites his lip and looks to the guys for support. A simple nod from Mike communicates the answer. "We leave," Vic says, his voice quiet.

-

"This place is kind of nice," Josh muses as the bands go through their stuff to lighten the load as much as possible. "The kind of place you'd settle down at after you retired."

"Shut up Josh," Jeremy says irritably. "This place is probably going to get blown off the face of the Earth and talking about how nice it is won't fix anything." After the second TV scare, Jeremy had been waken up less than nicely by Neil, and it was showing.

"Calm down," Vic commands both of them. "Fighting won't solve anything. Right now we need to make sure we're as prepared as we're gonna get. Now get out your damned road map and find the best route out of here."

"If we keep taking the highway there's a town like fifty miles away called Plains, then if we turn there and keep going we'll be at Sand Point in Idaho," Tony says softly.

"Tony's is probably the fastest way out of here," Mike says, looking over Tony's shoulder. "It's the closest route."

"And it goes through some towns that might have gas stations that are opened all night, so we can go through and get more food or whatever," Alex says, sounding a little excited.
Vic nods. "Okay, so I guess we're taking that route. Everybody mark it one your maps
Everyone nods and moves to find it on their maps.

-

Once everyone had packed their stuff back into their bags, the bands checked out and moved back out to their vans, settling in for a long night of driving. Vic clicks his seatbelt in and looks over at Tony who had decided to take positiong as the navigator of the group, meaning he'd probably be up all night with Vic making sure they went to the right place. Vic starts the van and backs out of the parking lot. Everyone else is following suit. Vic sort of felt relieved that they were getting out of Sulfur Springs. It was weird and desolate, everything seemed off.

"I wonder why they picked Montana, of all places, to start and all off death spree?" Mike thinks out loud.

"I bet they're working in chronological order," Vic speculates. Main street is lit up oddly bright for the evening. He wondered what was going on . . . Vic suddenly slams the brakes as a small child runs infront of the van. "Holy hell!" He curses, letting out a huff.

The little kid looks to Vic, it's eyes clouded and devilish. It cocks it head and lets out a scream. More people begin to exit buildings or come up the street, all have the same vacant eyes and piercing screams.

"Keep driving Vic," Mike says, his voice swuiet as so to stop himself for screaming it. Vic does so, cringing when he feels a small bump as he urges the van forward.

Tony awkwardly reaches forward and turns on the radio. "Chase music," he says, offering a shy smile as "Crazy Train" begins to play over the radio. Vic can't help but smile back. He remembered being told once to find the light in the worst of situations, and this was definitely one of those times. Vic continues to drive while Tony looks behind them to make sure the rest of the bands are on route as well. They had made it out of the bulk of the people and to the desolate road that seperated the town from the highway, and behind them Tony could see A Day To Remember's van driving on the side of the road opposite to them, however, All Time Low still seemed to be caught in the fray.

"Vic," Tony says. "We need to back up. ATL is still caught up back there, I think we have enough room we could get them in here." Vic nods, backing the van up slowly.

"I'll go get them," Tony tells the guys. "I need someone to open the back door, and I need Vic to start driving as soon as everyone's in." Tony is surprisingly level headed right now, his voice is cool and his actions are collected. Even as he climbs out of the van and starts toward the fray.

Hey waves at ADTR keep going and raises a finger to indicate that he would have the task done in a mere second. Tony bounds toward the near surrounded van and shoves through the writhing group of people to tug open the side door of the van. The group of teenager seemed to have abandoned driving and were huddled in the back.

"Out," Tony commands, a sense of urgency in his voice. Tony takes a head count ensuring all four boys were out. One of them screams as the people try and swarm them. Tony rushes around behind them and urges them forward to the PTV van, who's back door was open. Finally, Tony manages to get them all in an shuts the door. Vic does as commanded and starts to drive, speeding enough to catch up to the van ahead of them.

Tony lets out a shaky breath as he climbs back into the passengers seat and pulls the seat belt over his body.

"That was fucking insane Tony," Jack gasps wide-eyed. "I literally thought we were gonna die that all of the sudden you come out of like nowhere and save us!"

"I didn't even know our shy little Tony could be so rad!" Jaime says. "Like, wow. Was that like your first instinct or something? You literally saved four people who could have died for all we know!"

Tony simply smiles awkwardly, not knowing how to respond to the sudden praise. It sort of just happened, he just did was he thought was right. "Adrenaline," he explains with a small shrug as a blush creeps across his cheeks.

"Adrenaline?" Vic smiles as they make the turn for the route to Sand Point.

The song playing ends, and the radio goes silent for a long time. "I don't know what's going on out there," the radio host suddenly says. "But I'm scared. People with no irises. They're trying to break the door down," he chronicles. He's breathing heavily. "If my family is listening, I love you all. I'm so sorry I couldn't be there right now. I should have just taken the day off. I love you all so much!" He starts to cry and the radio cuts out to static.

Everyone has fallen silent by this point. They had literally just heard someone go virtually insane. He was a sitting duck and no one would be able to save him.

"Hey, I don't know if you recognize my voice from the TV," a fuzzy voice suddenly says. "If you do you'll remember that I've sort of been telling you are sorts of crap." The sudden realizarion that it's the wild haired man hits the group unanimously. "I've just found out that the toxin in the air, or that was in the air is fast acting. Small doses cause insanity, anything more liquefies your guts after successfully destroying your brain and eyes. If my calculations are correct it should all go into effect with in the next hour. If you're trying to get out of Montana, you better do it now or you might be too late.

"I'm leaving now too. The Dakota's, Wyoming, Idaho, and Washington are all next on the list. They may seem safe now, but I can promise there is much, much worse in store for them. I have to get this across the TVs now, hope to hear everyone can make it out." It cuts from him back to the crying DJ.

"I just don't even know. I can't hear the banging anymore, but I don't know," the man says, hiccuping loudly. "I made up an end of the world playlist for you all to enjoy while I wait for the end. Let's start it off with 'Dancing Queen' by Abba, start the beginning of the end off with a litter flare I guess." The song rolls and everyone remains silent as they continue the nights drive. No one really wanted to talk right now.
