It never ends

No mountain made of money Can buy you a soul, baby

I woke up with olivers arms wrapped tightly around me. The sun was shining brightly into the room. I smiled before I heard a phone ring, it was my phone on the nightstand. The ringing got louder and I heard oliver groan and turn around and raise the covers up over his head. I leaned up and sat on the edge of the bed and took my phone. It was 11, wow I slept pretty late. I checked the caller ID, it was Scarlett. I pressed the answer button and brought the phone up to my ear.

“Skyler, you’re awake right”

“Nope still sleeping” I said.

Scarlett smacked her lips. “Smartass, anyway, you wanna go shopping later, only 2 more days until classes start, I need some new outfits.” Hmm shopping, never been my cup of tea but I wouldn’t mind getting some new clothe. Collage, fresh start, well…kind of

“Fine, get dressed; I’m assuming you’re at Olivers”

“Uh yea”

“Okay, I’ll be there; oh can you bring a change of clothes?” I asked.

I heard Scarlett giggle.

“’ouu skyler what kind of shit have you been up to” there was amusement in her voice. I rolled my eyes and responded.

“All I have are my volleyball practice clothes, I can’t wear that out”

“whatever , if that’s the story you wanna go with, I’ll play along, fine I’ll bring something, don’t expect it to be one of your lame long ass skirts. Be there in ten” and she hung up. I sighed and put my phone back on the nightstand.

I felt the bed move, I turned my head, Oliver was awake, his hair was messy and he was barely keeping his eyes open. He looked so adorable. When he looked up at me I almost died.

“Morning” he said, his voice was raspy, as I could tell he was fighting going back to sleep.

“Morning” I replied.

“Who was that on the phone?” he asked leaning up, I couldn’t help but chuckle, his hair was tangled and all over the place. I gently combed it with my fingers.

“What?” he asked looking directly in my eyes.

“Nothing, I’m going shopping with scarlett today”

“Mmm I was hoping to have you to myself today” he said gently moving his lips to the tip of my shoulder.

“Maybe later” I mumbled.

“What about now” he said tugging at the sleeve of my shirt.

“Oliver” I moaned, he didn’t answer, as he moved his hand further down my arm slowly.

“I have to get dressed” he knew what he was doing. No doubt about that, I didn’t want to move, I wanted to stay, but I also agreed to going shopping with scarlett and I didn’t want to hurt her feelings.

“Change into those tiny little shorts” Oliver tilted his head to look at me. “Go ahead” he smiled. I rolled my eyes.

“Are you always like this in this morning?” I asked turning to face him. I moved so I was sitting in front of him. The sun was shining on him in a way that made half him hair look brighter brown and his eyes look green, a dark green. He still looked amazing. I could get used to waking up next to him.

“Like what?”

“Playful but…” I drifted off, we both knew what I was gonna say. Oliver shrugged.

“I don’t know, but if I am I never noticed.” A few seconds later I heard a knocking at the door. Scarlett.

I got up, and from the corner of my eye I saw Oliver follow me.

I made my way to the door, unlocked it and lowly opened it. There Scarlett was, her eyes immediately found mine and she handed me a blue bag of what I’m assuming were the clothes I asked her for.

“Thanks” I said, taking the bag from her. Scarlett nodded. She got her eyebrows done, very slightly though. Like she didn’t want anyone to know. But I could tell, my mother used to make me go to the salon with her every Saturday at 12:00 exactly. I used to not be able to see any difference but now I could recognize the slightest change.

I turned around to go to the bathroom to change when Scarlett moved past me and walked inside, her eyes roamed to Oliver who was in the kitchen getting a drink from the fridge.

“Wow Oliver, looks exactly the same, you haven’t changed a thing since Anna have you?” The way Scarlett looked at Oliver was deadly; he stared at her for a bit before tearing his gaze away. He was looking at everything except for me or Scarlett. Who was Anna, why would Scarlett bring it up? Questions I’ll ask later…or in the car.

I turned around and went into the bathroom. I opened up the paper bag Scarlett had brought me; I was hoping it wasn’t anything inappropriate, or short. I took a look in the bag and took a piece of denim out. It was a long sleeve jean shirt. Okay, good. I took another piece of something black and white out. It was a skirt. Didn’t look too short. I imagined the outfit together, cute outfit. I made a mental note to thank scarlet, these weren’t my clothes. I quickly changed into the clothes and put the bag under the sink. I opened the door quickly made a trip to put Oliver’s shirt back in his drawer. As I was in the hallway I heard Scarlett and Olivers voice, they didn’t sound too pleased.

I came back out making sure to close his bedroom door on the way out.

Scarlett was standing in the same place and so was Oliver, except Scarlett was focused on her phone and Oliver on his drink. Scarlett looked up from her phone, her eyes looked over my outfit and a smile spread across her face.

“Cute, no offence, but I couldn’t go shopping with you in your lame clothes”

“No offence taken” I said a bit confused. I liked my clothes, but I never had anything like this before.

I saw Oliver looking at me.

“What” I mouthed. He didn’t answer, but I knew he saw me. What’s up with him?

“We leaving or what” Scarlett said interrupting my thoughts. And with that we left.
Scarlett’s silver car was parked in the front. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t legal. I opened the door expecting it to be trashy, like the last time. But when I did a fresh scent of lavender flooded the air around me. Her car was clean...like spotless.

“Yea yea I know it’s clean, it took a hell of a long time but it’s clean” Scarlett said getting into the car. I got in and Scarlett drove off.

A few minutes later we arrived in the front of a really large building about 3 stories high. Scarlett parked and I followed her inside. We were in a mall. A very large one at that. There were so many people here.

“c’mon, there’s this store on the top floor” Scarlett said taking my hand and dragging me up 2 flights of stairs and around the corner.

“This store” Scarlett said smiling widely. “Is my favorite” Her voice was so giddy. I looked around the shop.
The walls were black; there were pictures of models on every corner wall. There were dresses hanging up on mannequins and on hangers. Most were short and the long ones were in the back of the rack. I saw underwear sets on tables, really small ones and perfumes on a really tall shelf. My mother would never allow my in this store. The only ones she ever shopped in were those uptight expensive stores were if your even a pound overweight everyone stares you down like you don’t belong. They only carry sized skeleton could wear. I hated that store.

Scarlett immediately started piling up dresses and skirts and shirts on her arm. I didn’t want to just stand there awkward so I started looking through racks. All these outfits were really nice. Maybe I should starts shopping for my clothes here.

“Hey Scarlett” I started.

“Yea” she said not really paying attention to me.

“Umm, today you were saying something to Oliver, about Anna”

Scarlett paused then glanced at me, then quickly went back to searching for clothes

“He didn’t tell you, that’s just like him, be an asshole to the people who actually give a damn about him” she walked around the rack and handed me a few clothes.

“Here, try these on”

“you didn’t answer my question” scarlet sighed.

“okay I’ll tell you when you try this on” she said holding up a colorful dress. I groaned and took the dress. I went to the dressing room with scarlett following me, she took a seat on the velvet dark red couch. The dressing room was quite large with 3 hooks on the right wall and a seat to fit the corner of the left and back wall. The walls were a bright pink with black zigzagging lines. It was really nice.

I took off my clothes and wiggles into the dress, I couldn’t reach the zipper.

“scarlett can you help me zip this” I said walking out the dressing room. Scarlett got up and took the zipper. I moved my hair out of the way

“you never told me about anna” I said looking in the mirror. Scarlett sighed again and finished zipping up the dress. A light cream colored dress with lace and a brown belt . I liked it.

“ugh, her and oliver went through some shit , get him to tell you, and if he doesn’t then I’ll tell you”

“Were they like…going out” scarlett snorted a laugh.

“I would call it anything but that, ask him” she said pulling the zipper all the way up. Scarlett smiled in the mirror.

“well I’ll be damned. Look” she said turning my shoulders so I was facing the mirror. I looked at my reflection and smiled. Wow, the dress did look nice. Casual but wearable to a party. Perfect length. Everything was perfect.

“I like it” I said smoothing the dress out.

“I knew you would” Scarlett said folding her arms. “c’mon, get out of those clothes we have other places to go”

Notes

sorry for the long wait. The title is a lyric from a The Pretty reckless song 'Messed up world' which is one of my favorite bands.

So I totally didn't re- read this again... Although, I now see the subtle little hints for the turning point in their relationship... It's so obvious now I know about it haha (Not spoiling cause someone people might have just started this)

I honestly love this, this would have to be my favorite one out if all of the fan fiction that I have read and I would love to see you write more <3

I was surprised her mom didn't say anything bad to oliver, but I guess that's in the upcoming chapters. Awesome update!
