There's No Such Thing As Too Young

One

I rolled my eyes at the illiterate, little shits around me as I exited the school grounds.

Not looking back at the campus.

Or as I called it, hell.

I clutched my folder to my chest as I plugged my earphones in, letting myself get lost in Young Guns.

I started making my way into town, where I was heading to Starbucks.

I'd had such a hectic day at school, and just needed a black tea to settle me.

Thank god it was Friday though, and I didn't have school for Two whole days.

I'm so glad I didn't have work until Tuesday too.

I hated school, I was classed as the 'outcast' there.

I only have one close friend, her name is Fiona.

She's the most perfect best friend I could ever ask for, she's the most amazing person ever.

I was bullied alot, and to the point where I self harm.

There's a reason why I'm bullied.

Apparently I cause death to anyone who comes near me.

But, I don't want to get into that right now.

I sighed in relief when I reached Starbucks, and I entered quickly, holding the door open for a business woman.

I stood at the counter, waiting patiently to be served.

"Hi, can I take your order please?" A boy in his early Twenties asked, leaning on the counter.

"Just a small tea please." I smiled, getting my purse out of my bag.

"That'll be One dollar and Ninety cence."

I handed him the money, and he immediately went to work.

"Milk or sugar?" He asked, and I shook my head with a smile.

"Here." He grinned, handing me a hot, cardboard cup.

"Thank you." I told him, looking around for a seat.

I noticed a single table, with Two chairs at the back, right next to the window.

I wondered over there, hooking my bag on the chair, and sitting down with my drink.

I looked out the window next to me, watching the people passing.

There where couples everywhere, which just made me miserable.

Man, I wish I had a boyfriend.

Although, who said you needed love to be happy?

"Excuse me, do you mind if I sit here?" My head snapped up at who asked me the question, bringing me out of my daydream.

A man stood on the other side of the table.

He was extremely attractive.

"Sure." I replied, rubbing my palms against my jeans.

He sat down opposite me and I took a moment to admire him.

He had a snapback on backwards, with the words 'Key Street' printed on the back.

The one half of his hair looked shaved, but I could clearly see some longer hair poking out the back.

The stranger had a ring in the centre of his lip, and a gleaming medusa too.

I couldn't help but think I'd seen him somewhere before, and I just couldn't put my finger on it.

He smiled at me warmly.

"I’m Mike." He said, holding his hand out.

"Millie." I replied, shaking his hand hesitantly.

I was always weary of people, I never trusted anyone apart from Fiona.

"I hate how busy it gets in here sometimes, I just want to drink my coffee in peace you know?" Mike sighed, glancing around the tables.

Thats my que to leave.

"Erm, I’m leaving now anyway." I stuttered out, getting ready to stand.

"No, please stay, my words came out wrong." He explained, reaching out to stop me.

"Okay." I sat back down carefully, ignoring the butterflies in my tummy.

"Hard day?" He asked, looking at my Science folder that lay on the table.

"You could say that."

"You’re a very beautiful girl, why are you alone anyway?" He wondered, taking a sip of coffee.

Mike looked about Twenty Five, why was he hitting on a Sixteen year old?

Well, in all fairness he didn't know I was Sixteen.

"I like being alone."

"I dont believe that." He replied, his brown eyes boring into mine.

"Ive grown accustomed to being alone, it’s all i've ever known." I answered flatly, looking at his tattooed hands.

"Let me walk you home, we can talk properly." Mike smiled, standing up with his coffee cup.

"No, it's fine." I replied, slightly creeped out by the attractive man.

"Oh, okay." He frowned, looking slightly hurt.

"My parents are home, they'll bombard me with questions if they see you." I said, lying straight through my teeth.

"Dont worry, I wouldn't want to get you into trouble." He said, showing his perfect teeth as he grinned at me.

"Bye, Mike." I said, grabbing my tea and bag.

"Bye, Millie." He answered, taking his phone out of his pocket.

I exited the cafè, putting my earphones back in as I thought about the attractive man I just met.

I felt giddy inside, and I had no idea why because I knew I would never see him again.

The walk home took about Twenty minutes, and I sighed unhappily as I took the key out of my bag.

"Home sweet home." I mumbled, stepping into the empty house that held so much love and oh, so many memories.

I hated myself for who I was.

I really did.
