Where'd it Go?
Prologue
“Tony?...” I cried, staring at the blood stained water of the creek in front of me. I was too late. I had failed my one and only. Sobbing, I collapsed to my knees and buried my face in my hands.
The tears were blinding my vision as I shakily stood back up. This was it. He was gone, so I may as well go, too.
I took a deep breath, waded into the water, and picked up the gun resting in his lifeless hands. I couldn’t bear it anymore. He was the only reason that I was alive. I brought the black, cool metal to my head, and I pulled the trigger…
I sat up with a jolt. I felt two arms wrap around my waist and hold me tight. “Babe, what’s wrong?” A sleepy, soothing voice, whispered into my neck.
“Sorry… I had another nightmare…” I whimpered. “It was… You… Then I…” I couldn’t stop the tears once they started falling.
Tony pulled me onto his lap and held my head to his warm chest. I cried into him until I could focus on just my breathing.
“It’s okay. You’re with me. Just because you dreamt it does not mean that it’s going to come true. I promise you it won’t.” Tony lovingly soothed me while rubbing his hand up my back.
I gave a weak smile to my amazing boyfriend, and he put a finger on my chin and tilted it up before planting a warm kiss on my lips.
How did I get so lucky?
