Remembering Sunday

Don't Blink, They Won't Even Miss You At All

It was about 7 or so and I realized I was supposed to walk Rosco.

"Alright Rosco, ready for your walk?" His ears perked up and he got his dog-like smile on. "Come on, let's get your leash first."

It took a bit, but soon enough we were out in the chilly breeze of San Diego. I figured a walk around town would give me a better visual of where everything is, not needing a map. Me and Rosco walked around a bit for a good 30 minutes before I realized we were lost.

Okay so maybe I don't know this place as well as I thought I did. I walked up to the nearest gas station and tied up Rosco's leash on a pole outside.

"Um, excuse me, do you know where I can find Sunflower Ri-" The cashier held his hand up.

"Sorry ma'am, I don't know where anything is. I don't live in this town." Then this guy in line spoke up.

"I do. I've lived here for a while now. I know this town like the back of my hand." He smiled at me.

I took his appearance into consideration. Tall, freshly shaved, short black hair styled upwards and lots of tattoos. And very handsome.

"So where are you headed?" He asked, smiling kindly. I told him and he laughed. "I live in that neighborhood too. I can walk you home if you'd like?" He paid for his things and added, "I'm Austin, by the way."

"I'm Ashleigh. A walk home sounds lovely." I smiled. Together we walked out of the convenience store and immediately heard Rosco barking.

"Is he yours?" Austin asked walking over to him and squatting down to pet him. Rosco took the opportunity to love up to him and lick his hand.

"Yeah and it looks like he really likes you. His name is Rosco and obviously he's a-"

"Rottweiler. I have one too." He said, untying the leash and handing it to me.

We walked through town, getting to know each other, cracking a few jokes on the way. He was a really nice guy. So far I know he's in a band, he just got off tour and he's single.

"What's your band's name?" I asked when he brought it up.

"Of Mice & Men. Maybe you've heard of us."

"I read the book in the 8th grade once and unless you're John Steinbeck, I've never heard of you guys." I joked. "But do you have any songs on your phone or something?"

He patted his pockets and said "Well I do, but my phone is at the house."

"Ah, well that's okay, it's not like we're not going to the same place." I looked up and saw that we were just walking past the entrance of the neighborhood.

"Well would you look at that? We've arrived at our destination. You know how to get to your house right?" He smiled down at me. Well I liked his company so might as well play dumb. I shook my head and told him the exact address number and he smiled even brighter.

"I live right next to there. Like right next to you." We started walking again and then he spoke up again. "So what are the odds of me getting your number?"

"I'd say pretty slim if you don't have yours on you." I smirked. He laughed and put his hands in his pockets.

"Oh right," He looked towards a mailbox and saw that we were here. Then he glanced at what I'm assuming was his house. "Do you... uh mind if I just go in and grab it? I'll be right back." He went on his way as I sat outside my house, on the steps with Rosco sitting, panting, next to me.

I sat there, petting him for a while before deciding something. "When we get back inside, I'll get you some water and nice big bone. How about that?"

"Okay, but a bit odd for a treat." I heard a voice come from behind me. I turned around and saw Austin. I laughed as he handed me his phone and sat down next to me. I handed mine his in return.

"And just in case you forget who Austin is..." I heard the click of a camera and saw his hands drop after taking a selfie. I might as well do the same. "Alright, I gotta go get some sleep if I want to make it to sound check on time. How about we hangout or something afterwards? I have a free schedule."

"That'd be great. I'll see you tomorrow." I smiled, nodding.

"I'll text you when I'm done." He started walking away with his hands in his pockets before turning back, half way between our yards. "Oh, and goodnight!"

I smiled to myself and said goodnight as well. When we got inside, I had this burst of energy that made me want to clean my whole house. But I figured it would pass and went on Tumblr instead. So that's how I spent my night, blogging and asking around about Austin's band. Turns out he's really a hero. I didn't dare mention I met him because then I would get asked if I could get an autograph for them or just get hate, telling me I don't deserve to meet him when I didn't even know who he was and so many others want to and deserve to. I wasn't about to sign myself up for that.

During the time scrolling through Tumblr, I started listening to one of my favorite bands, Bring Me The Horizon. When Shadow Moses came on, I had this flash back to warped tour when I first saw them. Before their set, all you could hear was the chatter of the crowd then the speakers boomed with the intro to the song and then the next second, you heard peoples' cheers and yells, you screamed yourself, you were being pushed forward and pushing people forward too. Every one wanted to get closer to their heroes. Then Oli came on stage and made it the best performance all day. That was the first song they played and it really pumped up the crowd. Their entire set was amazing.

Far too early, the song finished and I began to grow tired. I changed into my PJ's and laid down in bed next to Rosco hoping to catch a few hours of sleep before waking back up from the stupid fucking time change.
