Cold Mattresses

I did what I always did when my thoughts became too much for me after hanging out with Leia. I went to the Fuentes brothers. Leia had this way of making my thoughts shift into third gear and go hay wire and run rampant in my head, it was a skill she’d honed when I first moved here and we became friends.

My relief from the thoughts she made present hadn’t changed since high school either. Mike Fuentes, the best person to talk jibberish to and get some helpful feedback from.

It helps that he has a steady supply of weed too. And that I could ditch Leia with Vic and ignore the fact that they were definitely going to do something sexy with each other.

Mike and I were lying on his bed after I had explained what Leia had said and having smoked a good amount of weed. We had a good buzz going and I’d planned ahead before leaving the house after talking with Leia. I’d changed out of the shirt and jeans I was wearing and had put on the Giraffe onesie I owned and my favourite pair of light brown Converse high tops. They worked with this because they acted as the brown feet a giraffe would normally have.

Shut up, it makes sense.

“Leia seems like she has a point. I mean think about it, Kate thinks she has the power of you right?” Mike paused and turned to watch me. When I nodded he continued, “What she doesn’t know is just how deep this thing goes between you and the turtle. And she wouldn’t, when they were getting together you were on tour and she hadn’t been subjected to you at all. In her mind, you are just a person who knows Tony. She doesn’t know the back story between you two and therefore thinks she has more going for her than you.”

The words Mike said floated around in my mind as I tried to twist them and understand where he was coming from. Shifting on Mike’s rumpled sheets; I rested my head on his shoulder and focussed on a tiny crack in the ceiling. “So you’re saying I should get closer to Tony than I already am?”

Mike nodded. “Show him you’re there for him with Kate. You don’t need to get closer to Tony, I doubt that’s even possible, just show him that you’re there for him when he needs to talk to someone about his relationship. I mean he comes to you about everything anyway but just make it a point to mention her, seem interested.”

“I’ve already talked to him about Kate and their relationship.”

“Yeah? What’d he say?”

I shrugged. “He’s not sure about her, doesn’t know if he wants to keep dating her.”

“If he’s having doubts than you should help him along, show him that there are better options out there. Subtly of course, but point it out to him none the less. Tony is a smart guy and I’m surprised he hasn’t seen what’s in front of him yet. But he’ll come to his senses, I’ve got a feeling he already has similar feelings towards you, Kitten, he just doesn’t know what to do.”

“You think it’ll work? I mean, I don’t know how much help I’m gonna be seeing as I leave for tour in three days.”

Mike smiled and shifted under me. I sat up slightly so he could get comfortable and smiled when he pulled me down to lie against his chest, arms wrapping tightly around me. “That’s why me and the boys will try and make him see the light.”

I tilted my head to the side to look at him and smirked. “Subtly?”

Mike laughed and nodded. “Yeah we’ll do it subtly. We’re good at this kind of thing, how else do you think Leia and Vic got together?”

“You threw them both in a closet and told them to just kiss already.”

Mike nodded. “It worked didn’t it?”

“I think something more subtle will be better.”

“Alright then party pooper, we’ll have a meeting about it later. Just think about what Leia and I have said.”

I nodded and we laid together a while longer just saying the random shit that popped into our heads. Mike was one of the most calming people for me to be around these days. Him and Bones. Maybe Vic. They help me keep my head on straight and get on with my life.

“Wanna go see if we can get half price chips again?” Mike asked after a comfortable lull in conversation.

“Yeah let’s do it. Then I’m gonna take a nap, weed makes me tired.”
