Days Like These

Kellin woke up, happy his birthday landed on Saturday. He looked at his phone and saw a few happy birthday messages from his friends but none from Vic. He was quick to brush it off, telling himself that Vic is probably still asleep. Kellin checked the time and saw that it was eleven forty eight, and Vic should be up by now. He lay in bed until it was twelve, and then did his bathroom necessities before walking down stairs. He went to the kitchen and saw a note next to a plate of pancakes and fruit.

Happy Birthday Kells !! If you haven’t texted me by 12:30 then I’m coming back home to wake you up. Enjoy your birthday breakfast :) - with love, Katherine

Kellin looked at the clock on the microwave. He had two minutes to spare before Katherine stared to freak out. Oh well, Peanut was hungry and that was Kellin’s main priority at the moment. He took the plate to the table then served himself some milk and began eating. Kellin regrets forgetting his phone. Not five minutes past twelve thirty and Kellin heard the door being unlocked. He stopped mid movement, his hand holding a forkful of pancakes, berries, syrup and whip cream. When he looked towards the door, he saw the beloved head of hair he’s grown to love. Then, said head of hair, turned around and stared at him in shock.

“You’re up!” he looked down at the bouquet of purple roses and teddy bear in his hand before saying, “Happy birthday?”

“Aw!” Kellin said as he set his fork down and wiped the tears that began falling. “Vic, you butthole! You didn’t forget!” Vic walked towards Kellin, setting the items on the table and helping Kellin stand up. “I thought you forgot.” Kellin cried onto his shoulder.

“Babe, I could never forget your birthday.” Vic said as he rubbed his boyfriends back. “Why would you say that?”

“Because I got a happy birthday message from everyone except you.”

“No, I didn’t forget. I went with Katherine to get you your birthday present.”

“They’re pretty. Where’s Katherine by the way?”

“Get ready.” Vic said, completely ignoring Kellin. “Well, first finish eating then get ready.” Kellin rolled his eyes and sat back down to eat. When he was done, Vic helped him back up. “Want me to go with you?” Kellin shook his head quickly, mumbling no. “Why?”

“Because, I don’t want you to see me naked.” He whispered as he looked down. He felt Vic grab his face gently in between his hands.

“Baby, I’ll keep saying it even when we’re old, your body is beautiful. You’re not fat; you’re pregnant. If you weren’t getting bigger, I’d actually be concerned.”

“But I have stretch marks and it’s gross.”

“Kellin, never speak like that in front of me. What do I have to do to get you to understand that you’re so fucking beautiful? So what if you have stretch marks? I’ll love you the same with or without them.” Kellin looked at Vic with tears threatening to fall. Vic leaned in and kissed him lightly on the lips, softly making out with his pregnant boyfriend. When Vic pulled away, Kellin leaned in to kiss him some more causing Vic to smile. “C’mon, I’ll go help you change then we have to leave.”

Kellin sighed and pulled Vic up the stairs with him. “I can feel you staring at my ass.” Kellin said as he opened his door.

“What can I say?” Vic said as he walked towards Kellin’s closet. “Your ass looks great.”

“It’s all the baby fat. My thighs and ass look huge and it’s gross.” Vic didn’t say anything as he looked through Kellin’s clothes, looking for something nice and comfortable for today. Once he found it, he walked over towards Kellin and signaled him to lift up his arms. “What? Aren’t you gonna leave?”

“Um no?” Vic responded. “Now c’mon, we have to hurry.” Kellin sighed but lifted his shirt off slowly, quickly using it to cover his front. Vic kneeled in front of him and slowly lifted up the shirt as Kellin began to cry again. He saw the stretch marks Kellin was talking about but they were hard to notice unless you were looking and there was only a few. Vic leaned in and kissed the bump. “Hey peanut.” Vic whispered against Kellin’s skin. “I don’t know if you can hear me or not but I want you to know that I love you very much and so does your mommy.” He said looking up at Kellin with a smile. “We’re both happy to know that you’re growing healthy. When you get here, I want you to help me help mommy love himself because he’s very beautiful but he doesn’t know that yet. I’ll take a picture of him today with you inside so you can see how gorgeous he looked with you in his tummy.” Vic lifted a hand to wipe away the tears that ran down Kellin’s cheeks. “I’ll talk to you later peanut, bye.” Vic placed another soft kiss and stood up, pulling Kellin with him slowly. He took off Kellin’s pants and stared at him.

“Stop.” Kellin whispered as he continued to cry.

“Do you love me Kellin?” Vic asked.

“Yeah.” Kellin replied.

“I don’t believe you.”

“H-how can you say that.” Kellin said, crying harder. He brought his hands to his face and hid it. “You kn-know I love you.” Vic felt so bad watching him cry but he felt like this was his last chance. He’s tried everything and this was his last resort.

“What do you love about me?” he asked calmly, trying to stop himself from crying too.

“I-I love yhu-your small tooth that you hate, I lo-love the way you si-sing even wh-when you say you suck, I love the roughness of your h-hands against me even if you th-think that it hurts me, I love all the things you don’t love about yourself and everything else.”

Vic removed Kellin’s hands from his face, taking it in between his own. “Then why is so hard for you to believe that all the things you hate about yourself are the reasons I’m so fucking in love with you Kells? I love the way you have freckles scattered around your face, I love the way you look when you laugh or smile, the way you sing when you think I’m asleep, the way you sleep and the way you look when you wake up, I love the way you look baby.” Vic placed a kiss against Kellin’s forehead before adding, “So what if your thighs and ass got bigger? That just means there’s more to grab.” He said with a smirk, making Kellin blush and smile a bit. “But honestly babe, you’re breath taking. You’re the cutest guy I’ve seen even when you cry and there’s snot and tears.”

“Am I cuter then a box of kitten?”

“Way cuter.” Vic replied with a smile. “Now let’s go because there are things to do.” Vic took
Kellin’s hand and carefully led him down the stairs and out the door.

“Why are we going to your place?”

“Close your eyes?” Vic questioned, pulling out a bandana from his back pocket. Kellin was about to ask why but Vic gave him a peck on the lips. “Trust me Kells, just close your eyes.” Kellin did as he was told, feeling anxious about not being able to see what’s going on.

“Vic, if you make me fall, I swear to god.” Kellin threatened, feeling Vic hold onto his hand.

“You think I’d let you fall? And while your carrying my baby?”

“No.” Kellin mumbled, squeezing Vic’s hand lightly and getting his squeezed back. Vic finally pulled Kellin through the backyard, making sure his path is cleared. Then, all of a sudden, they stopped walking and Vic’s hand was out of Kellin’s. “Vic?” Kellin whispered. “Vic you’re scaring me where are you?”

“I’m right here.” He heard him say from behind, then arms wrap around him.

“Can I take off my blindfold now? I don’t like not knowing what’s going on.” Kellin felt Vic’s hands undo the knot, getting anxious as the seconds ticked by. “Jesus how long does it take to undo a knot?”

“Ready?”

“Yeah.”

“Surprise!” Kellin heard when the blindfold was removed. He blinked, getting used to the sunlight and there he saw all the important people in his life gathered around in Vic’s backyard.

“Aw, you guys!” Kellin said, getting emotional again. “You didn’t have to do this.”

“We wanted to Kellin.” Katherine said, walking up to him and hugging him. “You’ve accomplished so much in such a short amount of time that you deserve to be celebrated. Besides, not only is it your birthday party but it’s also a baby shower.”

“Thank you!” Kellin said, hugging her back. “Aw, you guys are so nice!”

Once Kellin had hugged everyone, thanking them for helping or showing up, the three adults went inside, leaving the teenagers to have fun. Kellin felt blessed that he had such amazing people in his life now. As the afternoon wore on, they cut the cake and handed Kellin his presents and the presents for Peanut.

Then Kellin felt his phone buzz. When he pulled it out, he saw a message.

-From Unknown Number : I’m always watching you Kellin.

Attached to the message was a picture of Kellin in the spot he’s in now. He looked up and looked around, finding no one suspicious.

“Kellin?” he heard. He looked over at Vic who was looking at him with concern. “Everything ok?”

“Huh? Yeah.”

“You sure? You’re looking a bit pale.” At this point, everyone was staring at him causing his cheeks to heat up. His phone vibrated again.

-From Unknown Number : If you tell anyone anything, I’ll make sure the baby and your boyfriend are dead. Don’t test me Kellin.

“Why are you looking at your phone?” Alan asked.

Kellin quickly closed his phone, putting it in his pocket. “Nothing. Anyways, who wants more cake? I know I do. Is there pickles? I want cake and pickles.” Everyone continued to stare at him so he smiled.

“I-I think we have some.” Vic replied. “I’ll go check.”

When Vic came back, he had pickles with him. Kellin said thank you and ate them with the cake. The party went back to normal except Vic kept glancing at Kellin worriedly. Something’s going on that he isn’t telling anyone and whatever it is, he’ll find the underlying cause of it.
