Diamond Blue Eyes

Hear The Sound Of Your Voice

Humming softly under her breath, Lyric tapped a beat out on her thigh while she surveyed the empty store. She was sitting behind the counter of Sanity, the decently sized music store that recently reopened up in the mall after the store changed hands. Business was slow and she was incredibly bored. Sighing for the second time in five minutes she pushed herself off her stool and walked over to the wall mounted television and browsed through the DVDs tucked beside it on the frame.

The Lost Boys?

“No,” she sighed and flicked to the next one.

Godzilla?

“No.”

Two Moon Junction?

“Too many sexy times for work.”

Star Wars?

“Watched it half an hour ago,” she groaned before smiling at the cover of The Goonies. “Bingo was his name-o,” she mutters, shoving it into the player and pressing play before turning it up and moving back to her seat just as the first customer of the day walked over to the stacks that formed a wall on the left side of the store for the rest of the mall.

Eyes shifting between the browsing customer and the TV screen, she sighed and walked over to the guy who looked to be in his twenty’s and heavily tattooed, straightening a sign as she went. “Hey man, do you need any help looking or just want to be left alone?”

He looked up in surprise before settling his large brown eyes on her and shook his head with a faint smile as his hand pushed his snapback into place after it slid back slightly. “No, I’m fine looking thanks,” he replied softly before turning back to the movies.

Lyric shrugged and smiled at him. “Let me know if you need anything,” and with that she turned and walked back to the counter, long pale blue hair waving slightly down her back as the guy snuck another glance at her and she sat on the stool, sipping her black tea that she’d made out back a little while ago, instantly becoming transfixed by the movie.

“Your name tag’s upside down you know.”

The soft voice instantly brought Lyric back to reality and she looked away from the movie to see her lone customer standing in front of her, three CDs and a DVD held in his hands. Looking down past the long black strings of her black string bowtie, she found that the tag was indeed upside down.

“I really should pay more attention,” she sighed as she took it off and turned it the right way before looking up at him. “Find all you needed?” she asked as he handed her his purchases, turning to the wall behind her to find the CDs to be placed in their cases.

“Yeah, I think so.” She heard him move around, spotting him browse through the posters out of the corner of her eye.

“That’s good,” she said before turning to place the CDs in their respective cases. “You’ve got taste. These are some great albums.”

He walked back over and smiled shyly, “Thanks.”

Humming softly as she rung everything up and placed it all in a bag she looked up. “That’s $37.50,” He stood for a moment, counting out his money softly before giving her exact change. Smiling gently, Lyric handed the black bag emblazoned with the store’s logo over to him. “Have a good day, Tony Perry.”

He looked at her in surprise, not realising she knew who he was. Upon seeing his face she shrugged slightly, “Everyone deserves their privacy and being someone as talented as you, I doubt you get it much so I figured if you wanted to be noticed, you’d make it apparent. Besides, I don't fangirl that much over bands. Just television shows.”

Tony smiled wider at her as he pulled the bag to his chest. “Thank you for that. I love our fans but sometimes it gets a little too much and to be honest, not many people recognise the guitarist.”

Lyric nodded her gazed shooting to the movie for a moment to see what part it was up to before turning back to the famous guitarist. “Not many people take an interest in the entire band, just the vocals which I find a shame. You’re brilliant and I think people should give you more recognition, it’d be completely different if you weren’t there.”

Tony swallowed in surprise, never having thought of it that way. This blue haired beauty with an awesome name according to her tag is dropping some serious knowledge on him. “You think so?” he asked in surprise.

“Yep, because it’s not just about the sound it’s also about the dynamic. My friend has a band and the guitarist left and when they replaced him everything felt off. The sound was different despite them playing the exact same songs and it was because the guy wasn’t putting enough of himself into it. Everyone is important, Tony.” She smiled brightly at him.

“How did you come to be so wise?” he asked softly just as someone else walked into the store.

“Squirt?” Tony turned to see the drummer for the band, Lost Silence that he was set to tour with in the next couple of months leaning by a stack of movies, thin metal pole resting at his side.

“Over here, Corey. 2 steps to your right, 15 straight ahead,” Lyric called out before turning back to Tony. “Because I know what it’s like to be the guitarist that no one recognises.” The guy walked over with an easy smile.

“Morning, sister of mine; what a beautiful day it is! Black everywhere,” he cheered with a smile, throwing his arms out wide, somehow managing to miss Tony with his hand before turning to face him. “Hello, good sir. How are you today?” he paused for a moment, happy expression dropping into a slightly worried one. “Am I actually looking at you or am I off?”

Tony smiled and shook his head. “Spot on, Mate and I’m fine thanks; how about you?”

The guy’s smiled widened into a massive grin before he bobbed up and down happily. “Great actually, I managed to bump into what I hope was a hot bird on the way here and copped a feel,” he turned to the counter and frowned at Lyric dead on. “Don’t frown and roll your eyes at me, Missy. You would do the same.”

Lyric sighed at her older brother before nodding, “It’s true, I would.”

“’Xactly,” he said before moving around the counter and sitting in her seat. “Now let Tony Perry finish his shopping. You guys can flutter you eyelashes and flirt some other time. The Goonies is on.”

Lyric flushed and looked down in embarrassment while Tony looked away for a moment amazed that the guy recognized him by his voice alone, red colouring his cheeks at what he was implying before he cleared his throat and turned back to the pink cheeked, blue haired girl.

“Give me your phone?”

Lyric looked up in surprise before digging around her pocket, fishing it out of her jeans. Unlocking it, she handed it over to him and he punched in his number, sending himself a message so he had her number. Locking it and handing it back over, he smiled. “I’ll see you later, Lyric.”

She smiled and nodded, “Bye, Tony.”

When he’d left the store, she unlocked her phone to see the message he’d sent.

Sure thing, Diamond Eyes
;) Can’t wait.

“So I take it, I totally just played matchmaker?” Corey asked, unseeing blue eyes fixed on the area where the television was.

“Yeah,” Lyric said, still surprised at the twist of her chance meeting.

“And I’m the best brother ever?”

She snorted and turned, pressing a kiss to his pale cheek. “Of course you are,” she said just as her phone chimed once more.

a brilliant guitarist too. Lost
Silence is one of my favourite
bands ;)Can’t wait to tour with you.

“What is it? What’d he say?” Corey asked and when she read it to him he smirked. “Marry him. He’s the one.” Lyric smiled down at her phone as she replied to his texts.

And I you.
Meet at the diner on the corner
two blocks from here. I’ll be the
one in the green cardigan.

His reply was instant.

I’ll be the one in the yellow dress.

He’d seen Ghost Town. He was perfect if he’d managed to sit through it without getting bored. He really was the one.
