Without You, Nothing Ever Mattered

Chapter 1

"Alex wake up, it's the first day of school!"
I groaned at the sound of my mum shouting. Then the words sank in and I groaned even louder.
"Come on, time to get up," my mum said, quieter but more urgently. I reluctantly got out of bed. "Good girl, now I've got to go to work but I'll be back around 6 tonight. Good luck."
I smiled and went for a shower. When I came out I switched on my iPod and started playing Suicide Season by Bring Me The Horizon. I went to my wardrobe and put on a Tonight Alive t-shirt, black skinny jeans and a black hoodie. Once I was ready I put on my Vans and started the ten minute-long walk to school.
I went to Claremont Secondary School in London and this was my first day in sixth form. All my friends had gone to different colleges but I decided to stay on at sixth form and do A-Levels. I had chosen maths, English, film studies and art.
When I got to school and into sixth form block there was a list on the wall of what tutor groups everyone was in. I saw my name and classroom - I was in S10. I went upstairs to the room and sat down at the back.
I watched other people walk in but there wasn't anyone I'd ever spoken to. I recognised them all, apart from one person I'd never seen before. As soon as I saw him I couldn't take my eyes off of him. He was really tall and had shoulder-length hair with both sides shaved, and a medusa piercing. He was wearing an Amity Affliction vest top, skinny jeans and a snapback. He smiled at me and then sat down near me at the back.

After tutor the new guy came over to me.
"Hey, I'm Mike," he smiled. I noticed he had an American accent.
"Hi, I'm Alex" I replied nervously.
"I like your top, I love Tonight Alive."
"Thanks," I smiled, "I like yours too."
"You clearly have an awesome taste in music. Would you mind sticking with me today? I don't know where anything is," he laughed.
"Yeah, of course," I responded.
We walked downstairs and into the common room, and sat down on a sofa.
"So, you're from America," I commented.
"Yeah, I moved here a few days ago from San Diego with my parents and brother. My dad got a promotion in his job so we had to move here."
"How old's your brother?" I asked.
"He's 17, in the grade above us. His name's Vic. I'll text him and ask him where he is."
After he texted Vic we sat in silence for a few moments, until Mike spoke again.
"So, why don't you tell me about yourself?"
"Okay," I started, "My full name's Alexandra but I hate that so everyone calls me Alex. Um, I live with my parents, I'm an only child. All my friends went to different colleges so I'm currently friendless here-"
"You aren't friendless," Mike cut me off, "you have me."
We both smiled. Then Mike's phone vibrated.
"Vic replied. Apparently I'm not the only one who met a pretty girl today."
"Shut up," I blushed.

We sat talking for a few more minutes before the bell rang.
"Do you know where E12 is?" Mike asked.
"Yeah, it's on the other side of the school," I laughed. "I'll take you there."
He smiled and we started the walk.
"E12 is a music room, did you take music?" I asked him.
"Yeah, I play drums," he replied.
"That's awesome. I've always wanted to learn an instrument."
"I'll teach you how to play drums if you like."
"Really? You'd do that?"
"Sure."
"Thank you so much," I grinned.
We arrived at E12 and Mike started to go in.
"Can we meet at lunch?" he asked.
"Yeah sure, I can meet you here if you want?"
"Okay, see you at 12.30."
He grinned at me and went into his classroom. I looked at down at my watch and realised I was five minutes late to my lesson.
I started running back to sixth form block, thinking about Mike with a massive smile on my face.

Notes

To anyone who doesn't understand the UK school system, sixth form is the English equivalent of being a junior and senior in America.

I'm not great at writing so hopefully this is alright :)
