Only The Good Die Young

Tony Perry groans and smacks his alarm clock off the stand in an attempt to hit the snooze button. He groans again and rolls off of the bed to retrieve it. Tony turns it off and stands up, setting it back on the stand in the process. According to his alarm clock he had fifteen minutes to get ready for work, but he knew Anne could care less when he got there so long as he got there. Tony grabs some fresh clothes and puts them on, running a brush through his hair quickly. Tony bypasses breakfast, something pretty normal for him, seeing as he was always late for something or always having to study for something else. Breakfast didn't mean anything to him anymore.

Even during the summer he had time issues with all the above things. Especially the studying, he was single handedly keeping the grade average decent at his school. Of course with the exception of about three other kids in the school of fifty, everyone was on the verge of dropping out. It was a rez school thing Tony had learned when he had first gotten to Sulfur Springs, there were three typical groups of kids on the rez: teen parents, partiers, and those who just didn't give a fuck.

For the most part Sulfur Springs was the last one mixed with the second one, and he imagined if there were more than fifty kids in their combined junior high/high school the first one would probably be a lot more prominent in the mix. Tony walks outside and makes the short trek to the library where he worked, it would be opening up pretty soon.

"Hi!" Anne, the friendly middle-aged librarian greets. She really was a nice lady, always looking out for everyone, even if she didn't know them. Admittedly, Tony admired her.
"How're you Tony? Did you eat breakfast today? it is the most important meal of the day!"

"Yeah," Tony lies, going to get the book cart so he can start to put books away now. That way he and Anne could sit around and talk for most of the day. There really weren't a lot, most people came here to use to computers anymore, it made Tony kind of sad. Books were great, not enough people read.

Tony hums slightly and he puts away the few on the cart. People had started pouring in rather early today usually they started trickling in around noon, but at a mere ten o' clock it was starting to get packed. Nobody had checked out a book yet by the time every computer was taken, as well as the couches where readers should be sitting. Tony pushes the book cart back into the office and takes a seat on the little couch in there. At noon precisely Anne comes in asks him to cover the front desk while she took her lunch break. Tony agrees to it and takes a seat in the swivel chair behind the front desk.

A boy that didn't look any older than Tony walks in, pretending to look at the newly bought books. At least he's pretending . . . Tony muses, boredly picking up a random book and starting to read it.

"Hey!" The young man greets, leaning against the front desk. Tony could get a better look at him now, he definitely was Tony's age, and looked it with the exception that his piercings and tattoos could've thrown someone else for a loop. "What's your name?"

"T-Tony." He mentally curses himself for how unconfident his voice always came out. "Yours . . . ?"

"Mikey," Mike offers a charming smile. "So, Tony, do you suppose you could go out with me sometime?" Tony blushes.. Was this Mike character really asking him out in front of God and everybody? "So?" Mike urges.

"Uh, sure." Something in Tony's gut could already tell him this was a bad idea. But why not?
