Hell Above

A Trophy Father's Trophy Daughter

Just another night listening to them bicker; bicker being an understatement. The yelling was getting out of control. Crashing vases and beer bottles rang throughout the house. I shook my head and began attempting the same calculus problem I’ve been working at for over three hours now.
“Haley!” My father’s voice echoed. I shut my book and sighed inwardly, mentally preparing myself for the shit storm.
“Coming!” I replied, slowly making my way to my door. I took a deep breath and opened it and walked down the carpeted stairs. Upon entering the living room, I noticed the glass shards spewed across the floor from god knows what. I looked around noticing my mom was nowhere to be found.
“We’re leaving.” My dad stated simply.
“W-what?! I can’t! I’m finishing up college!” I stared at him in disbelief.
“Fine! Stay with your poor excuse of a mother!” He shouted in my face. I glared at him and stormed upstairs, making sure not to step on any glass. Once back in the safety of my room, I saw my older brother sitting on my bed.
“Tony?!” I looked at him wide eyed. He ran away from it years ago. He was in a band called Pierce the Veil. I tackled him and pretty much squeezed the life out of him.
“Haley, I’ve missed you.” He pulled me close.
“Why didn’t you tell mom and dad you were visiting?” I composed myself slightly and sat up.
“I saw them fighting. I knew I’d get dragged into it.” He stated simply.
“So you climbed through my window?” I laughed slightly. He just nodded. I hugged him again. We were two years apart. I was adopted when I was ten and Tony and I instantly hit it off. We were inseparable. I honestly loved his parents when they weren’t fighting, which seemed like a rarity now. I missed the random movie nights. It all started when I started high school. I came home and there were shards of broken glass near the front door. I heard the yelling from the street. It’s a wonder why the neighbors didn’t talk to us anymore.
“I actually came by to talk to you about something.” He looked at me.
“Sure, what’s up?” I asked.
“Well, I know you hate it here. I know you need a break, and I know you want to meet the guys. You want to go on tour with us?” He smiled slightly.
“Tony…I’m so close to graduating from college…” I wanted to go so badly, but I can’t leave my parents.
“Haley, you barely eat anymore, you never answer your phone, hell I see the scars on your thighs. You need a break.” Tony pleaded. I looked down at the discolored skin on my thighs.
“I can’t leave them Tony…they’ll kill each other.” I ran a shaky hand through my auburn coloured hair. Tony was right. I needed a break.
“No they won’t. Please Haley.” He pouted. I bowed my head in defeat.
“Fine, when do we leave?” I asked. He jumped up and tackled me.
“Next Friday!” He smiled and squeezed me.
“Okay, I’ll be done my classes by Wednesday. I guess I should pack.” I laughed.
“You want to get lunch with me and the guys tomorrow?” Tony wanted me to get acquainted with the lads before sharing a bus with them for however long this tour was.
“Sure.” I nodded and yawned.
“Awesome! I guess I’ll come pick you up tomorrow. Love you sis.” Tony smiled, pulling me into another hug and then kissing my forehead.
“Love you too. Don’t kill yourself on the way down.” I giggled. He smirked and swiftly made his way down from my window to the lawn. I closed my window and decided to get some rest.

“Haley!” This time, it was my mother that yelled throughout the house. I opened my eyes to immediately be greeted with the obnoxious sun. I picked up my phone to look at the time; it was only nine in the morning. I had my last exam tomorrow. Why can’t I sleep? I sighed and pushed myself out of bed. I went into the bathroom to attempt to calm down my hair; it reached down to the middle of my back. I had a slim figure with average breasts and an excuse of an ass. I wasn’t much to look at. I stood at five foot, two inches and am twenty five years of age. I finally managed to put my hair in a ponytail and get my contacts in without poking my eye out.
“Haley?!” My mother’s voice echoed through the long hallway.
“In the bathroom!” I yelled back, finishing up my business and then making my way downstairs.
“I made your favourite breakfast!” My mom turned around and smiled. She held a plate that had pancakes, bacon and eggs on it. I beamed, taking the plate from her and sitting at the bar.
“Thank you!” I smiled.
“Haley, your father and I are getting a divorce. He left last night.” She looked down, not wanting to see my reaction.
“Oh…okay.” I sighed half in relief and half in an attempt to act sad.
“You know we’re both miserable.” She looked up at me. I stood up, walking over to her, and engulfed her in a hug.
“It’s for the best.” I said in attempts to comfort her.
“I know Haley, I’m glad you’re so understanding.” She smiled and kissed my forehead. A knock on the door interrupted our little mother daughter moment.
“I got it mom.” I smiled slightly. I quickly walked and looked through the peep hole to see Tony and some other Mexican looking dudes.
“It’s Tony!” I yelled happily and opened the door.
“Tony!” Our mom practically ran in and hugged him.
“Hi mama.” He hugged her tightly. The other three males said their hellos and all looked at me puzzled.
“Guys, this is my sister Haley. Haley, this is Vic, Mike and Jaime.” Tony pointed to each one.
“I won’t remember your names, but it’s a pleasure to meet you.” I smiled and shook their hands. Jaime seemed to captivate me the most. He seemed like a little puppy dog.
“Mama, I’m taking Haley to lunch with the guys and I today.” Tony stated. She nodded.
“Let me go get changed.” I laughed. I was still in a big shirt and track shorts. I ran upstairs and picked out a pair of blue skinny jeans, black vans and a Panic! At the Disco shirt and made my way back downstairs. I saw the guys sitting on the couch all talking amongst themselves; well all except Tony. He was in the kitchen talking to mom. I decided to go sit with the guys.
“Haley! Come sit here!” Jaime pulled me next to him. I laughed.
“Well you didn’t give me much of a choice, now did you?” I smirked.
“So, Tony tells us you’re in your last year of college?” Mike asked.
“Yep! I’m majoring in Audio Engineering.” I smiled triumphantly.
“Oh! Someone to help me with the recording process!” Jaime smiled.
“So you’re touring with us?” Vic asked.
“Yeah, I mean if that’s okay.” I replied nervously.
“Dude, it’s totally fine!” The guys all cheered. I smiled.
“Haley?” My mom called from the kitchen.
