Vic's P.O.V.

I looked down at my phone and sighed. Peace. I pushed it away from me. I took a sip of coffee and closed my eyes. I want one day. Is that really too much to ask? One day before the baby is born. After that I won't have any time. I'll barely have time to write music at first. Zee will need me. That's why I need a few hours. My phone has been switched off since the second I left our apartment.
I finished my coffee and reclined back into the booth I was sitting in. I looked through the bags I had with me. Baby clothes. Ones that Zee hasn't seen yet. I can't imagine it actually happening. How did I make that little person at home inside her? I didn't do much. It didn't take any great effort. I just saw Zee, liked what I saw and decided she'd be good. Maybe I did like her.... probably. But I was drunk, we both were. What if the baby smells like champagne? I think that's what I was drinking at first because it was free. Then I moved onto beer and a few shots of whiskey. God help the child, they'll be so confused.
I peered inside a tiny bag I had hidden away. It was sleek and shiny. I probably shouldn't have brought it. She might hate it. But just in case we get back together, I want something to seal the deal. No it's not a ring, it's a necklace.
I heard yelling coming from outside this little place. I saw Austin run past the window and widened my eyes. As he ran he looked inside fleetingly. Then he retracted his steps slowly to the door. He flung it open and ran to the back of the diner where I was. To say I was shocked as he sent someone's coffee flying was an understatement.
"Why haven't you been answering your phone?!" he demanded.
"Um... I switched it off?" I tried.
"Brilliant!" Austin exclaimed. "Zee has only weeks to go and you switch off your phone. Are you stupid?"
"Can I phone a friend?" I grinned. Austin glared at me for a second before he got me across the head. "Ow! What was that for?"
"I've been inside every shopping mall and store within a ten mile radius. I've asked strangers if they've seen you. I went to hot topic and brought a fucking Pierce The Veil t-shirt so I could ask people have you seen this man. And all this time you've been here!" I looked up at him with wide eyes. He was indeed wearing one of our t-shirts.
"Well, you've found me now."
"Aren't I lucky? Why she chose you I will never understand."
"Hey! She broke up with me, remember?"
"You idiot!" he rolled his eyes at me. "If you really don't get why she did it then you're even stupider than I thought."
"Why did she do it then?" I asked, getting pretty annoyed.
"I don't have time to explain all that. We need to get to the hospital."
"Why?" I asked stupidly.
"It's Zee," Austin sighed. "She's gone into labour."
"What?!" I gasped. "And you're only just telling me." I stood up and grabbed handfuls of bags. I ran out of the diner and caught my breath outside. "When did her waters break?"
"Apparently she told the nurse last night." Austin said.
"Wait," I stopped him. "Are you kidding me? Last night. Why has no one told me?"
"People have been trying but you're phone is switched off." he snapped.
"No, there's other ways to tell me. Why did no one my mom or Mike? They'd know where to find me."
"Can you shut up and let's go?"
"No, you obviously don't want me there. No ones told me." I said angrily. "She'd rather you be there anyway."
"What?" Austin muttered.
"You say I'm stupid? She's in love with you!"
"She isn't." Austin laughed.
"She is." I countered.
"She's like a sister. I'm like her big brother. There's more chance of me and Alan than me and her."
"She loves you."
"Maybe she had a crush. So what? You don't get it."
"Get what?" I huffed.
"Since we got into the car to take her to the hospital she's been asking for you. She's been crying and screaming your name with every contraction she gets. If you really think she doesn't love you then you should look at her eyes when you walk into the room. She's so stupid with you around. So I'm going to say this once in a way even someone deaf and blind to her affection can understand... Theres a woman that you love and who loves you back. She's been in labour since last night and now she's been in labour for going on fourteen hours. If you don't hurry the fuck up you'll miss the birth of your baby." Austin rushed. I looked at him and then to the bags I was holding and then to a squirrel on the sidewalk.
"Taxi!" I yelled and dived onto a passing cab. The driver looked rather startled but allowed it on account of me looking fucking psychotic.
"San Diego hospital." Austin told him.
While we drove there I couldn't sit still. Zee was going to have our baby. What if she already had them? What if I missed it? What if the baby is ginger? No, that couldn't happen. Who's ever seen a ginger Mexican?
When we arrived I some money and a few coins at the driver - blinding him when one hit his eye I think - and ran out into the hospital. I still had all my bags with me as I spun around like a man man looking for maternity. Austin grabbed me and led me along. I ran to the ward and banged on the door a few times. Austin decided to politely press the button instead.
When we walked inside I saw so many people in the waiting room. Jenny. Alan. Kellin. Copeland. Jaime. Jess. Tony. Mike. Zee's dad. My dad. And a partridge in a pear tree. They all glared at me and I smiled sheepishly.
"I found him!" Austin declared and everyone started to smile. Phew.
"Down the hall to your right." Mike told me and I smiled gratefully. I started running in that general direction and came to a room. I could hear Zee screaming. Is she giving birth or being exorcised?
I ran into the room and threw my bags down onto the floor. I bent over and gripped my knees trying to get my breath back.
"Where the fucking hell have you been?" Zee demanded. I looked up and widened my eyes. Zee was laid back on the bed with her legs in the air. Well shit. A midwife was near by with Katelynne holding her hand, her mom standing near by and my mom glaring at me.
"I'm sorry! I didn't know... I'm here." I said guiltily.
"Is this the father?" the midwife asked.
"Yeah." Zee smiled a little.
Mom came over to me and hit me in the ear. "Ow!" I exclaimed.
"If you were late you'd get worse than that, Victor." she warned. Then she disappeared out of the room.
I went to Zee's bedside and took her hand. "I'm sorry, baby." I muttered and kissed her hair. Big mistake. She's sweatier than Mike's old gym socks.
"I thought you were going to miss it." she gasped.
"Never." I told her.
Then she gasped in pain. I widened my eyes and started to dance around on the spot. What do I do? What can I do? We need hot towels!
"On the next one I want you to push, Zandra." the midwife told her. Oh no, that can't be good. I could see Zee getting herself ready. She took in a deep breath, started squeezing the fuck out of my hand and pushed. Tears were coming from her eyes and her eyes were clouding over.
"I can't do it!" I yelled. "I can't, I'm sorry Vic. It'll have to stay there. I can't do it." he cried and her back arched. Shit.
