This past week I've spent my time helping and watching with tech and hanging out with the guys on tour. I've also spent some of my time hiding from Jack when he's looking for me, which tends to be often. I get on well with the guys from Pierce The Veil. Vic seems to like hanging out with me, but I'm not sure. After spending more time with him I've feel like there's something he's hiding. I don't know if it's just from me or from everyone. But he has a secret. I hate to be on his case but I feel scared for him.
I've been evaluating who will be likely to give me the most information. I've already tried Jaime. He told me Vic gets sad - which I already knew - before he walked away from me before he let anything else slip. Mike I don't think will tell me anything. That only leaves Tony.
I walked into the front lounge and sat next to Tony. He looked away from the t.v. to smile at me. I grinned at him before Tony looked back to the show he was watching. I nudged Tony and he looked at me.
"You okay?" Tony asked.
"Yeah," I nodded. "Can we talk?"
"Sure, Thea,"
"You know Vic?"
"Yeah,"
"Is he okay?" I asked carefully.
"What do you mean?"
"Sometimes he seems a little down,"
"Everyone has bad days," Tony reasoned.
"I know there's something you're not telling me," I urged.
"Vic's gone through tough times. Maybe he still is. But I can't tell you what,"
"I'm not going to gossip," I groaned.
"I know. But if I tell you and Vic finds out he'll be mad at me,"
"Come on,"
"No," Tony said flatly. I sighed and folded my arms across my chest. "Thea," he said and gestured for me to come closer. I inched closer to him. "If Vic wants you to know, he'll tell you. Please don't try and play detective, it'll piss Vic off,"
"Hey!" someone called and I screamed. I looked up and saw Vic in front of me. I took deep breaths and clutched my heart with my hand. "What's up?" Vic frowned.
"You scared me," I widened my eyes.
"Sorry. Do you want anything from Starbucks? I'm going now,"
"I'm okay," Tony smiled.
"Can I come?" I asked hopefully.
"Um sure," Vic shrugged.
"Great," I grinned and got up. Vic was about to walk outside when I stopped him. "Is Barakat out there?" I asked urgently. Vic popped his head out of the door and scanned the area.
"You're safe," he told me. I sighed in relief and followed him out. I fell into step with Vic. We walked away from the venue and onto the street.
"How are you?" I asked him.
"I'm fine, Thea," he sighed.
"You sure?"
"Yeah," he nodded. "Why do you keep asking?"
"Because you're my favourite person on the bus and I care about you," I explained slowly.
"You've only known me a week," he stated but I could see a smile tying the corner of his lips.
"So?" I asked. "Plus, you're buying me coffee,"
"I am?" he asked. I nodded and led him inside Starbucks. We went up to the counter and Vic looked up at the board. "Just a latte," he told the woman. "What about you?" Vic asked me.
"Hmm a caramel frappe," I ordered. They started our order and Vic paid. I waited over at a table. But just as Vic came over I saw someone walk past me. I narrowed my eyes at her. I remember her from school. She was one of 'them' girls.
"What's up?" Vic asked as he sat down. I shrugged and rolled my shoulders. I can't let this happen.
"Nothing, just tired," I said, using Vic's excuse for everything.
"Sure?"
"Now you're the one questioning me," I laughed.
"You need questioning. I don't,"
"If you say so," I rolled my eyes.
"Damn it. I'll go get napkins," he told me. He got up and this time I watched him. Vic has something kind about him. I watched as he carefully selected napkins. Then my eyes went to his legs just before he walked back to me. I scratched the back of my neck as I looked. "Were you looking at me like that?" Vic asked.
"No," I rushed. "The guy behind you in the leather jacket," I quickly filled in.
"Oh," Vic muttered.
He didn't say much until we had both finished. I stood up and walked with him. But I had to walk past the table 'she' was sitting at. Emma. I could feel her eyes on me. I started to get hot and sighed, shaking it away. I can't do this. When we were outside I kept accidentally knocking Vic as I walked. I was looking behind me, finding Emma following me. She needs to grow up.
"You're shaking, Thea," Vic told me.
"I'm fine. I'm cold," I lied. We were not far from the venue when I couldn't take it anymore. Jaime was running over and stopped in front of us.
"Hey, Thea. Tech want you," Jaime told me.
"In a minute. I need to sort something," I said. Jaime looked at me confused, but Vic looked a little scared. I turned around and jogged over to where Emma was. She smiled when she saw me, making bile rise into my throat. I swallowed the casuistic liquid down. "Why are you following me?" I snapped.
"I haven't seen you for a while, Thea," Emma replied.
"I know, it's been lovely," I replied.
"You haven't changed," she muttered. I think she saw how much I was shaking now or how dark my eyes had gotten. I hope she was regretting things a little.
"Neither have you," I said through gritted teeth. I advanced on her until she was backed up against a wall. "I want you to fuck off and leave me alone until I'm out of town," I said.
"Thea," she breathed softly. I widened my eyes and she nodded.
"Thea!" I heard Jaime call. I turned to them and saw Jaime and Vic both watching me. I sighed and stepped away from Emma.
"You're lucky," I told her. I started walking away when I heard her shout.
"Ha!" Emma called. But when I looked at her she had gone. I rushed over to Jaime and Vic.
"What was that?" Jaime demanded.
"Nothing," I sighed. "It was nothing,"
