Break the Barricade

Vic

There were still fans coming in for the meet and greet with us when Mike nudged me.
“Do you know where Jaime went off too?” he asked me.
I turned around to find out that Jaime wasn’t standing next to me anymore. I frowned and then shrugged. Weird.
“I don’t see Thea either,” I suddenly noticed. She wasn’t standing at the side anymore, even though I had still seen her there about five minutes ago.
Mike shrugged. “We can’t really go look for them now. We just have to let it be for now. Jaime must’ve a good reason for running off like that, but we still have fans that want to meet us.We’ll look for them later.”
I nodded. Mike was right. I had a bad feeling about it though. Jaime definitely must’ve had a good reason for running off like that, because he is not someone that wants to disappoint the fans. And what if that good reason was Thea? I couldn’t shrug the thought of that something was wrong.
When Jaime finally came back he just shrugged when we asked where he had been. Thea wasn’t with him. I decided to just shrug it off for the time being, but I would look for her later.
When we were finally done with the meet and greet I headed to the green room straight away. I knew I’d find Thea there. She was sitting on a couch, holding her face with her hands. I sat down next to her and gently took her hand.
“What’s wrong?” I asked. I hoped it wasn’t my fans that gave her hate. That would make it my fault.
She shrugged. “It’s nothing. Leave it, okay?”
I shook my head. “You don’t seem okay to me. Just tell me. You know you can trust me.”
“I know that,” Thea nodded. Then she sighed. “It’s just- I find it hard to talk about it. I’m screwing up again, Vic.”
I frowned. “What do you mean?” I asked. My eyes travelled down to her thighs. Did she-
“Not that,” Thea interrupted my thoughts. Thank God.
“What is it then?” I asked.
Thea sighed again. “I feel like anger is building up inside of me. I feel like I’m going to snap. And that is not going to be pretty.”
Her anger. She seemed so content and happy the last couple of weeks that I almost forgot about that problem. Almost. But now I was reminded of it once again.
“It’s just one day Thea,” I told her. “It’s one day that you feel angry like that again. It doesn’t mean you’re going to snap. You might feel better again tomorrow.”
Thea shook her head. “It’s not just been today, Vic,” she said quietly.
“What?” I asked her worriedly. “Why haven’t you told me?”
“You’d leave me,” she mumbled.
I raised my eyebrows. Did she really think I would leave her for that? She is the most perfect human being I know. I would never leave her. “I wouldn’t,” I finally said. “I don’t care how angry you are, you can’t help it. You just have to try to make sure it doesn’t get to you.”
“It’s just been getting worse since Jack pulled me away that one time,” she sighed. Then she widened her eyes as if she realized she shouldn’t have said that. “Since Jack and I made up I mean,” she added quickly.
She’s been hiding things from me with Jack. I knew it. “What was that? What happened?” I asked sadly. “You should’ve told me.”
“Nothing happened, I’m fine.”
I took her hand again. “You can tell me, I just want to help you.”
She shook her head and I knew there was no way I could get the truth out of her. Instead I wrapped my arms around her and I hold her close for a while. I could sit like that forever, but after a while the other guys came into the greenroom.
“The tech wants you,” Mike told Thea. Thea’s warm body left mine and she gave me a quick kiss on my lips before she headed out of the greenroom.
As soon as she left the room I turned to Jaime. “What was going on earlier? Do you think Thea is okay?”
Jaime sighed heavily and sat down on the couch next to me, where Thea was sitting only seconds ago. “I don’t know,” he said. “She seemed like she was going to punch one of the fans, so I took her here. Then she kicked a chair and told me she thought she was getting worse.”
“She told me she is getting worse too,” I mumbled. “I’m going to look for Jack. Thea said something about him and I think she might know more.”
I got up and went to the All Time Low dressing room. Four pairs of eyes were looking at me when I walked in. “Hey Jack, can I speak to you for a second? Alone?” I asked Jack.
Jack nodded and got up. He walked with me to the corridor just outside their dressing room.
“What’s up?” he asked.
“Can you tell me what happened before you and Thea made up? Thea doesn’t want to talk about it.” I looked at Jack with pleading eyes.
“Sure,” he replied. “she just got the hate. A few fans across the street were talking trash about her and it seemed like she wanted to run after them. So I took her back to the venue and talked to her and then we made up.”
I nodded. “Thanks,” I said. I slowly walked back to our own dressing room, to give myself more time to think. Twice within a few weeks Thea had wanted to punch someone. And she didn’t tell me it was getting bad. If I’d say I wasn’t afraid I’d be lying. What if she would really hurt someone? It would make her feel so bad. So guilty. She didn’t deserve to go through that. But I didn’t know how to make it better for her. I had no idea how to stop it.
