Break the Barricade

Vic

I sat there for a while, in Thea’s bunk, my arms wrapped around her. After some time I slowly pulled away from her.
“Do you want to talk?” I asked her.
“About what?”
“About anything,” I told her. “Sometimes I feel like you have lots of stuff you never told anyone. And everyone needs someone to listen to them. You do too. I would want to be that someone.”
Thea sniffled and shrugged. “Maybe you’re right,” she said so softly that she was almost whispering. “I am not important though. I don’t matter. I shouldn’t bother anyone with things that are bothering me, because they have their own stuff to take care of.”
I raised my eyebrows. “Friends are supposed to take care of each other,” I said. “It’s not only you that has to take care of your friends.”
She shrugged again. “I know, but I still matter less.”
I shook my head. “You don’t. Now tell me, why would your ex say something like that?”
“Because it’s true. I am not normal,” she said. I could see she was fighting to keep herself from crying again.
“Believe me, if you are not normal nobody is. Everyone has problems,” I said while putting my arm around her. She started sobbing quietly. “Maybe nobody is normal anyway,” I added. “That is a good thing though. The world would be so fucking boring without any weird people out there.”
“It wouldn’t be good if everyone was like me either,” she muttered.
“But why? Why do you think anything is wrong about you?”
“I push people away,” she suddenly shouted. “I hurt them. I get anger attacks and then I can’t control myself. And I’m disgusting and ugly.”
Then she burst into tears. I wrapped my arms around her and was holding me desperately, like I was the only one she could still hold on to. I let her cry on my shoulder while I rubbed her back quietly. When she finally calmed down I turned her face so that she was facing mine.
“You are one of the prettiest girls I’ve ever seen,” I said, even though even that was an understatement. “Nothing is ugly or disgusting about you. You might have anger attacks, but what does that really matter? It doesn’t make you a worse person. Everyone has issues.”
“People have told me I am disgusting and ugly all my life. They must be right, otherwise they wouldn’t have said it,” she muttered.
I widened my eyes. Who would tell a girl like her she was ugly? Everything about her was just so perfect and beautiful. She was so sweet and caring. Nothing was ugly about her. Literally nothing. I didn’t dare to speak out my thoughts though, maybe it would creep her out.
“I don’t know why people would say that,” I said instead. “I promise you, you aren’t any of that. The ones that told you that are blind, don’t have a heart and I want to shove a cactus up in their asses.”
Thea laughed through her tears. “You want what?”
I smiled. “I want to shove a cactus up in their asses,” I repeated.
She let out a soft giggle. “Thanks. Could you film it for me? I’d love to see that happening.”
I nodded. “Sure, anything for you.”
We remained silent for a short while. Thea’s head was resting against my chest.
“I still understand why my ex would say that about me though,” she said quietly. Her voice was muffled by the fabric of my shirt.
“Why?” I asked. “Why would he think that?”
“I had this very big anger attack once. I screamed at him and then I punched him on his nose and I broke it,” she said. She was trembling heavily.
“Hey, calm down,” I said while running my fingers through her hair. “It’s okay, I know you had a good reason to react like that. You wouldn’t just go and hit someone. Want to tell me what that reason was?”
“Okay,” she said with a cracking voice. More tears were forming in her eyes and she rubbed them away violently. “He always hit me. I just couldn’t stand it anymore, so I hit him back. I know it was wrong of me to-”
“He did what?” I nearly shouted, anger rising up in my chest. “Literally nothing you did was wrong. He deserved that punch. I’m glad you broke his nose.”
“I shouldn’t have lowered myself to his level. It was all my fault anyway. I deserved the punches.” Her face was buried in the fabric of my shirt and it was getting wet with warm tears.
“Don’t say it was your fault. It wasn’t, I promise. I wish I could make that dick pay for what he did to you.”
She suddenly sat up and felt my face with her right hand. “Thank you so much,” she said, while looking me straight into my eyes. Then she slowly moved forward. Before I knew it, her lips were softly touching mine. My stomach turned around and my eyes closed. I moved my head side wards and slightly opened my mouth. Our tongues touched while my right hand moved gently through her brown hair. The tip of my tongue softly twisted around hers. It took a moment to realize what happened here, but I felt happy. I felt relieved. I did not want this to stop.

It didn’t.

Notes

Guys I am so sorry this is so damn late! I was really stressed this week and I had lots to do so I didn't have time for it and I didn't really feel like it either. I will try to be in time next time it is my turn though.

Anyway, they finally kissed! Does that make up for it? Tell me what you think!

- Simone

PS: Credits for the kissing scene go to my big brother, I made him write it.
