Believe You Me

This love is a monster

I woke up relatively early the next morning with a pretty decent hangover. I groaned and got out of bed, dragging myself to the bathroom and rummaged for some aspirin. After I found some, I threw on one of Jaime's old hoodies that I had and walked downstairs.

I was expecting it to be worse, but when I got to the bottom of the stairs I saw that it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. There were cups and cans everywhere, but I've seen a lot worse. Some of the parties the boys threw could get way out of control and would end up with nearly everything broken. Luckily, this wasn't one of those parties. I made a mental note to clean this up before I went out this afternoon.

I walked into the kitchen and nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw Vic sitting at the breakfast bar. I clutched my chest and let out a breath of relief.

"Dear lord, Vic. One of these days I'm actually going to have a heart attack and die on the spot." I warned mockingly.

"Sorry, Evie." He apologized with a weak smile. "Coffee's on." I walked over and poured myself a cup before sitting down next to him. I looked over at him as he was spacing off. His hair was a mess and his bloodshot eyes had dark bags under them. He looked like a wreck.

"Vic, did you even sleep last night? You look like hell." He pulled his gaze away from the counter and looked at me with a tired smile plastered on his face.

"I got plenty, don't worry about me, kid."

"Jeez Vic, I'm 25, I'm a hardly a kid. You're just an old man." He laughed and got up from his seat to put his mug in the sink. He turned around and leaned backwards against the sink.

"So, how did things end up going with Austin last night?" He raised an eyebrow as he asked, a slight smile pulling at the ends of his lips.

"Oh, uh, pretty good. He kinda asked me on a coffee date this afternoon." I took a sip of my coffee and Vic raised both of his eyebrows.

"Oh yeah? That's great, I'm happy for you Eve. He's a good guy. Just be careful, you know? I might be five heads shorter than him, but I'll still give him a good beat down if he even upsets you slightly." Vic smiled a weak smile at me again. I got up and wrapped my arms around his scrawny body.

"Thanks, Vic. I love you too." I stood up on my tippy toes and kissed him on the cheek before leaning on the counter next to him. "Hey, do you know if Jaime's awake yet?"

"I don't think so, I don't think anyone else is up yet."

"Oh good, I love waking Jaime up. Hey, why don't you go see if you can't get some more sleep?" I offered.

"But what about this mess? I really don't want you guys to have to clean this up by yourself." He said with genuine worry.

Don't worry about cleaning up, you really need to get some sleep. I'll make Mike help me, you know how much he loves cleaning." I gave Vic a wink before heading back upstairs.

I got to Jaime's door and knocked softly. When he didn't reply, I walked in quietly. He was lying on his back, passed out on top of the comforter wearing only a pair of basketball shorts. It was amazing that he was even able to actually get into bed before passing out. I crawled into bed with him and laid my head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around me and instinctually pulled me tight against him.

"Eve if you keep crawling into bed with me one of these days I'm never going to let you leave." Jaime murmured softly into my hair, keeping his eyes closed.

"Sorry, Hime. I just really miss cuddling sometimes, and you're the only one I can do it with without it being weird." I felt him smile into my hair, causing a smile to form on my own lips.

"You're lucky I love you." He kissed the top of my head and slowly rubbed my back. My stomach fluttered softly and I swear my heart skipped a beat, but I pushed the feeling aside.

"Hey Hime, can I ask you for a favor?" I angled my head slightly so I was looking up at him.

"Eve, for the last time, I'm not giving you my Buzz Lightyear doll. Get your own." He chuckled.

"Oh my God Jaime, no. I'm meeting Austin for coffee a little later and I was just wondering if I could borrow your car." His eyes were still closed, but I put on a puppy dog face nevertheless. He opened his eyes and looked me directly in the eyes.

"No, absolutely not. You're mine." I rolled my eyes and swatted his chest. "Oh, fine. But only because I want you to be happy. The rest of the guys and I are taking the van back to San Diego later and bringing our cars back here anyways. I'll just drive yours back here."

"That sounds good with me. Why is everyone bringing their cars back here though? We're only here for a few more days." I looked back up at him, raising my eyebrows suspiciously.

"Well, Tony and Mike were talking last night about staying for a little longer than a week. It's just been a long time since we've been here and we miss it. I mean, we were going to ask you first, of course, but we-" I placed a finger over his lips to stop his rambling.

"Jaime, stop. Of course we can stay longer, I love it here just as much as you guys do. But if we're going to do that, is it okay if I have you bring back a few things from the loft?" He nodded his head in response and smiled at me with my finger still on his lips. I pulled it away.

"Great, thanks Hime. I'll make you a list when I have a moment later. You're the best." I kissed him on the cheek and pulled myself from his arms and out of his bed. "Now, get out of bed and come help me clean downstairs. I'm going to wake Mike and Tony up so they can help too." Jaime groaned and rolled over onto his stomach. "Hey, watch it. If you help me, I'll make us all breakfast when we're done." He shot up and looked at me, his eyes wide.

"Really?!" He exclaimed. I laughed at him and nodded in reply before walking out into the hall.

I woke Mike up, which was surprisingly easy. I went to wake Tony up, but I walked into his room to see that his room was empty and his bed was already made. I walked downstairs into the kitchen to see him pouring himself a cup of coffee. He smiled at me and gave a quiet "Good morning." Mike and Jaime came dragging themselves down the stairs, acting like waking up was the worst thing to happen to them.

We all quickly got the place cleaned and I made breakfast. After the breakfast mess was cleaned I headed upstairs to get ready for my date with Austin. I checked my phone to see a text waiting from him.

I smiled at myself before checking the time and throwing my phone back onto the bed. It was 11 now so I had plenty of time to get ready. I walked into the bathroom and took a nice, long hot shower. When I got out I walked to the closet to find a decent outfit. I hadn't packed much besides shorts, jeans, and t-shirts, and I definitely hadn't planned on being asked out on a date. Luckily, I managed to pack a simple sundress in case the guys wanted to go out somewhere while we were here.

I slipped the simple orange sundress on and walked back into the bathroom to do my hair and makeup. I blow dried my hair and let a natural wave fall through it as I did. I put on a light layer of makeup and slipped a few bracelets on. As a final touch, I put my small key necklace on and stepped back to take a look at myself. I thought I looked pretty decent, but I was recently getting an urge to dye my hair back to the pink it was a few years ago. I made a mental note to ask the guys later what they thought of it.

There was a soft knock on my door and Jaime walked in fully dressed and ready to go.

"Wow Eve, you look great." I thought I saw his cheeks redden a bit, but it was gone as quickly as it had appeared.

"Thanks, Hime. I didn't really think that it would be a good idea to look like scrub on my first date." I smiled softly at him and sat on the bed, motioning for Jaime to take a seat next to me.

"So are you nervous? It's been awhile since you've been out on an actual date, hasn't it? Jaime said as he sat down.

"Well of course I'm a bit nervous, but I'm not as nervous as I probably should be. I mean, I'm just so comfortable around him that I can't imagine it would be awkward or anything." I shifted on the bed and looked over at him to see him staring off. "Jaime are you even listening to me?" He looked at me with a small smile.

"Of course, Eve. I'm sorry, I'm just tired and hungover. I'm sure everything will go great." He apologized. "Anyways, we're all getting ready to head out. Did you have your list ready?" He patted my leg gently before standing up from the bed.

"Oh shoot, I'm sorry, I totally forgot about that. Hold on, let me make one real quick. I got up and walked over to the desk that had paper tucked away. I took out a sheet and wrote down the few things that I could think of off the top of my head, including my jewelry stuff. I looked the list over before walking back to Jaime and handing it to him."

"Alright, I'm trusting you with grabbing some of my unmentionables, don't make a big deal out of it. My car key should be hanging up, and please, please don't forget to get my jewelry stuff. I've got to get some work done since we're staying here longer than I had first anticipated." He took the list from me and dug in his pocket, retrieving his car key and handing it over to me.

"Make sure you don't total it, alright?" I laughed and shook my head as a response before he turned to head out the door. He turned around with an afterthought while standing in the doorway. "I love that necklace, by the way. It really does suit you." He smiled at me before walking out the door and disappearing down the stairs.

I fingered my key necklace, remembering when he had given me it a few years back for my 23rd birthday. I smiled to myself and looked at the clock at the wall, noticing it was already 12:45. I grabbed my gladiator sandals from the closet and slipped them on. After a quick spray of perfume, I was ready to walk out the door. I grabbed my phone and the small purse I had and headed out to Jaime's car, taking off towards the pier.

Notes

This is really just a filler chapter, and I'm sorry about that. Don't think that it's not important though, because it is!
Anyways, this was the last chapter that I had all typed up and ready to go. That being said, the updates are probably going to become more spaced out and I apologize for that in advance. I do have a five day weekend coming up this week, and I'm hoping to get a lot of writing done then.
By the way, I have no idea how this story is going to end or who Evelyn is going to end up with, so feel free to tell me who you think she should be with in the comments, it'll really help influence my decision.
