Believe You Me

You held me down in this starless city

After a quick stop at the liquor store we went back to the house and straightened up the mess that was left over from last night. It didn't take long for everybody to start showing up, and about a half hour into it the part was in full swing. I was standing in the living room talking to the band's drum tech Casey when Austin walked in with Alan and Tino.

"Hey, Evelyn!" Austin called out and made his way towards me.

"Hey Austin! Hey Alan, hey Tino. I'm really glad you guys could all make it!" I waltzed over to them. "I'm Evelyn, we met a few years ago at Warped." I shook Tino's and Alan's hands before giving Austin a quick hug.

"Yeah, Austin told us about running into you this morning. Hey, didn't you have pink hair at Warped when we met though?" Alan asked.

"Oh, lord." I laughed. "Yeah, that was me, but I really try to forget about it, it was awful." I shook my head and laughed again.

"Why would you want to forget about that? I thought you looked hot with it, you're probably like the only girl that could pull it off." Alan said bluntly, causing me to blush. I laughed and changed the subject.

"Anyways, the drinks are in the kitchen, feel free to help yourself to whatever." I smiled at them and Alan and Tino took off immediately for the kitchen. "Aren't you going to go along with them?" I asked Austin, who had stayed behind.

"Oh, I'll grab a drink later. I'm not really up for it quite yet." I cocked an eyebrow at him.

"How are you going to go to a party and not feel like drinking? You're one strange guy, Austin."

"You'd be surprised at how much I actually get that." He laughed.

The music was thumping loudly and we stood there making small talk for a little bit before Jaime came down and interrupted us.

"Hey Evie, Austin, are you guys up for a game of beer pong?" He shouted as he walked down the stairs.

"Yeah, I'm down with that. How about you, Austin?" He nodded his head before I could even get the whole question out.

"I don't mean to brag, but I"m the beer pong champion." Austin said.

"Oh man, I wouldn't be too sure of that until you've seen Eve play, she's scary good." Jaime told him as he walked up to where we were standing in the living room.

I blushed at his words. "I don't know about that, Hime." I was good, I would admit that, but I definitely wasn't the best around. I could take Jaime out with no problem though, there wasn't a doubt about that. "Do we have a fourth player or do we still need to find one?"

"I haven't found one yet, you and Austin were the first ones I asked to come play." I looked around at the people surrounding me. There were a few people here and there that I could put a name to the face, but it was a pretty small amount. I'm not even sure that all the guys knew everyone that was here. I spotted Vic sitting on the couch in a corner of the living room, staring out in front of him with his eyes glazed over.

"Hey, Vic, are you alright?" I walked over to him and he snapped his head up to look at me, confused at first before realizing who I was. I didn't think that he had had that much to drink, but I guess I was wrong. He looked pretty out of it though, even for being drunk.

"Yeah, Eve, I'm fine. I'm pretty tired though, it was a crazy show tonight. I think I'm going to head to bed." Vic put his drink down on the coffee table and headed upstairs without even glancing back at me. It was pretty strange for him to act this way, but I blew it off. He was probably just exhausted. He was right, it had been a crazy show and I didn't blame him for wanting to head to bed early.

"Evelyn, Alan said that he would play with us if you couldn't find anyone else to." Austin walked in from the dining room with Alan behind him, who already looked pretty decently wasted.

"Yeah, that's great. Alan's more than welcome to play. Let's go find Jaime." I headed into the kitchen to find Jaime flirting with some drunken petite blonde who looked like she wasn't even old enough to drink.

"Come on, Jaime, Alan said he would play." I dragged him away from the blonde, who shot me eye daggers the entire way out of the kitchen. We all four headed upstairs to the game room on the second floor where the ping pong table was at.

I've totally got dibs on Eve!" Jaime called out as he set up the cups on both sides. "Let me tell you, this girl is something else when it comes to beer pong. I've never seen a girl play as good as her in all my life."

"Oh, shut up, I'm not that good. Come on, let's get this game going. You guys can shoot first." I grabbed one of the ping pong balls from the cup of them under the table and handed it to Austin. He shot the ball across the table and completely missed every single cup laid out. "Wow Austin, you're not starting off too great." Austin hung his head in shame as Alan laughed at him.

"Back off, it's been awhile since I've played. I'm just a little rusty is all. I'll get my game back, you guys just wait and see."

Jaime grabbed the ball and shot it, dunking it right into the plastic solo cup.

"That a way, Hime!" I high fived him and Austin picked up the cup and downed what was in it. The game went on that way for the next half hour. Alan wasn't any better than Austin at it, mainly because so wasted that even standing was a chore.

By the end of it, Jaime and I had completely dominated the whole game. I had made most of the shots, but I wasn't one to brag about it. I high fived Jaime after we had won and he headed back downstairs with Alan to where the rest of the party was still going on. Austin stayed behind and helped me pick up the small mess that was left behind.

"I guess you really are the best of the best, it definitely took me by surprise. It was a good game though." Austin grabbed a few of the cups from the floor and threw them into the trash that was tucked away in the corner of the room.

"Thanks, I guess. I really think Jaime is more proud of me as a beer pong player than I am, truthfully. I could care less. It's fun to kick some ass, don't get me wrong, but it's not something I care to brag about." I shrugged my shoulders and picked up the rest of the cups that were lying around and threw them into the trash. Austin came up behind me so that when I turned around we were face to face with only inches separating us from each other. He looked down into my eyes, a faint smile worn on his lips and his eyes softened around the edges.

"You really need to start giving yourself a bit more credit in life, Evelyn. You're great, I don't know why you can't see that." I blushed and pushed the hair back from my face before looking down so he couldn't see the red on my cheeks.

"Please, Austin, I've already asked you, call me Eve or Evie. I can't stand the sound of my full name." Austin placed a finger gently under my chin and lifted my face up so that I was looking back into his eyes.

"It's such a pretty name though, to fit such a pretty girl." We stayed like that for a few seconds, staring into each others eyes without moving. My stomach was doing flips and I was pretty sure that if Austin listened close enough he could hear my heart racing in my chest. Austin slowly started moving his face in towards mine before the sound of someone clearing their throat from the back of the room broke us apart.

"Sorry to interrupt, I just came back for my drink." Jaime waltzed in and grabbed his drink and wiggles his eyebrows at me before walking back out. Austin was rubbing the back of his neck, looking incredibly nervous about what had almost happened.

"Hey, do you maybe wanna head to the deck upstairs and talk or something? It's a lot quieter up there, and we won't have to worry about anyone barging in like that." I asked.

"Yeah, sure, that sounds great. Lead the way." I grabbed my drink off the table and headed out of the room and up the stairs to the upstairs patio with Austin trailing behind me.

Notes

I'm sorry that this is cut off at such an awkward point, but if I didn't split it here it would have ended up being way too long for just one chapter.
