Believe You Me

Help me find a way to breathe

"Aha!" I shouted in triumph as I finally got my suitcase zipped tightly. I picked up my suitcase and other bags and took them downstairs, setting them by the door.

"Jaime, will you hurry already? I swear, you're worse than a girl!" I leaned against the wall and crossed my arms, huffing impatiently. We hadn't really spoken about what had happened last night, when I woke up he was already long gone from my bed. I have no doubt in my mind though that he knows I'm incredibly thankful for everything that he's done for me.

A few minutes later Jaime finally came in from his room carrying two suitcases and another small bag.

"Good lord, Hime, you have more bags than I do. Don't you think it's a little excessive?" I giggled at him as he frowned.

"For your information, Eve, not all of us wake up with picture perfect hair. Some of us have to use like twenty different products to get it to look decent. So bug off!" He picked up his suitcases and bag and headed out the door and to the elevator.

"I don't have perfect hair in the mornings, jerk!" I called after him. I grabbed my bags and followed him out the door, locking it behind me.

The short ride to Vic's was a loud one, full of singing from Jaime and screeching from me. Before we knew it, we had finally arrived at Vic's. Jaime pulled into the driveway and I hopped out before he could even put the car in park. Vic was standing outside staring off at nothing, and I immediately ran up behind him and wrapped my arms around him, hopping on his back in the process.

"Victor!" I shouted into his ear. He covered his ears in response and tried to roll me off his back.

"Evelyn, I love you to death, but if you don't get off me we're going to have to fight." He laughed and I hopped off his back. "Goodness girl, you act like you haven't seen me in months. We saw each other last week at Mike's party!" Vic pushed his brown hair out of his eyes and pulled me into a tight embrace.

"I know, but I'm just so excited that we finally have a chance to stay at the beach house!"I pulled back from his hug and he kept his hands on my shoulders, looking into my eyes. I looked back into is and noticed the bags that were formed under his eyes. There was something in his eyes that I couldn't quite place, and I saw his smile falter, a serious look forming over his face. Before I could say anything about it, he spoke up, his voice lowered significantly so no one around us would be able to hear him.

"Jaime told me about what happened last night with Kody. I just wanted to make sure that you were okay. I can't imagine how hard that must have been to face on your own." My eyes fell and tears formed in the corners of them.

"I'm fine, Vic. I appreciate that you care, you know I do... but it's just not something that I feel like talking about right now. I could use this get away more than you know." I looked over his face and then back to the ground when I saw that he still had that serious look plastered on.
"Of course, I completely understand. I just want you to promise me that you'll come to me if you need anything, anything at all. You just let me know an I'll be there at the drop of a pin." I nodded my head and smiled a small smile at him. He smiled back and walked off to help throw his bags into the back of Jaime's car. I wandered over to Mike who was standing off to the side, watching Jaime and Vic load the bags in.

"Are you really just going to stand there and watch them load all the bags in by themselves and not even offer to help?" I said to him. Mike took a drag off the cigarette he was smoking before looking over at me with a grin on his face.

"You know how they get when it comes to packing, if it's not perfect they freak. So, I'll let them keep at it by themselves, I wouldn't want to screw anything up." Mike laughed and wrapped an arm around me, pulling me close to him.

"Yeah, I guess you're right, they do get that way." I wrapped my arm around his waist as best as I could. Mike was a giant compared to me. I barely came up to his chest, so even standing next to him was awkward for me.

Tony's car pulled into the driveway and he hopped out with his suitcase in hand, looking frustrated. I pulled myself away from Mike and walked over to Tony. He was piling his bag in the trunk and I draped my arm around his shoulder.

"Are you okay, Tony? You look upset." He pulled away from my arm a bit harshly and turned away.

"I don't want to talk about it." He muttered as he walked away. Jaime shot me a worried look from the back of the van as Jaime climbed into the backseat of Jaime's car and slammed the door shut. I shrugged back at Jaime and walked over to where they were all standing.

"Well, are we ready to get this show on the road?" Mike asked.

"Hell yeah we are! Let's fucking go!" I shouted and ran around to the passenger side of Jaime car and jumped in. The guys laughed and followed behind me. Jaime got into his car and Mike and Vic climbed into the band's van.

We had all decided that it would be a lot easier to just take the one car and the van with all the equipment and instruments. The boys had packed most of it up last night while they were here so we wouldn't have to worry about doing it today.

Jaime pulled out of the driveway and lead the way with Mike and Vic following behind us. I glanced at Tony in the backseat. He had his headphones in and his eyes closed. He was my friend and I was worried about him, and I definitely didn't want this get away to be ruined by whatever was bugging him. I sighed and looked over at Jaime who had a goofy ass grin plastered on his face.

"What the hell is that look for?" I playfully snapped at him.

"Calm down, Evie. It just makes me smile how much you care about all of us. You know we all love you, and I'm just glad that you love and care for us all in return. He cares about you too, you know." He glanced at Tony through the rear view mirror.

"Well of course I love and care for you all, you guys mean more than anything to me. I wasn't my best when you guys came around, you know that. I honestly don't think I'd be where I am now without you guys. I don't even know if I'd be alive without you, Hime..." My voice trailed off and I looked down at my lap. Jaime reached over and grabbed my hand, giving it a squeeze.

"I think it's safe to say that we've saved each other's lives." He smiled at me and squeezed my hand one more time before letting go. I smiled back at him and turned to look out the window. I couldn't wait to be back in Huntington Beach. This car trip was not going to go by fast enough.

*********

It was around 8pm when we finally pulled into the driveway of the beach house. Tony had started talking to me and Jaime about halfway through the trip, not mentioning anything about the reason for his bad mood earlier. We all got out of the car and met Mike and Vic at the front door. I stood in front of the door with the key in the lock and turned around.

"Okay guys, since there's only two master bedrooms, I think it would only be fair that we draw straws to see who gets them. So, before everybody takes off, let's get that over with." The guys all nodded together so I unlocked the door and walked into the living room. I set my suitcase by the couch and glanced around the place.

It was beautifully decorated and furnished with with beautiful Italian furniture, thanks to my wannabe Martha Stewart of a mother. I stopped for a minute and took in my surroundings, completely stoked to be back in the place I loved most. Tony, Vic, Jaime, and Mike all filed in after me, dropping their suitcases on the living room floor. Mike walked up to me and grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the kitchen.

"Take this all in later, I've got to make sure that I get my own bathroom." Mike dragged me behind him and we all walked into the kitchen. I pulled five straws out from one of the drawers and a pair of scissors, fixing the straws for the pull.

"Alright guys, the two with the tallest straws will get the two master bedroom. The rest will have to deal with a regular bedroom. Deal?" They shook their their heads in agreement and drew straws one by one. Vic was the first to draw, followed by Tony, Mike, and then Jaime.

"Everybody ready?" I said once everybody had their pick. "Okay, show them!"

"Fuck! This isn't fair!" Vic hand ended up with the shortest straw and he threw it on the ground and stomped away. I giggled as he picked up his suitcase and walked up the stairs.

"I think he might be a little upset." I laughed. "Anyways, let's see what's going on here." We stuck our straws in the middle of us.

"God damnit, Vic was right, this totally isn't fair!" Mike exclaimed. He had gotten one of the smaller straws, and so had Jaime. Tony and I were the ones with the tallest straws.

"Niceee!" I said and high fived Tony. I gathered the straws and threw them away while Mike and Jaime grabbed their bags, walking up towards the bedrooms and complaining about having to share a bathroom with each other. Tony and I grabbed our bags and headed up to the third floor, where the master bedrooms were located. They were right next to each other and practically the same, the only difference was that the master bathroom in one had a Jacuzzi tub and a shower, while the other only had a shower.

"You can have the room with the Jacuzzi tub. I know how much you love that thing." Tony said with a small smile and walked into the other bedroom.

"Thanks, Tone." I called after him. I walked into my bedroom and closed the door behind me I set my bags down and immediately ran over and flopped onto the California King sized bed. I closed my eyes and finally took the time to completely take in the fact that we were finally here.

This was one of my favourite places in the world, and the best place to get away from the problems and drama with Kody that I had been dealing with lately. I was laying there lost in my own thoughts with there was a soft rap on the door. "Come in." The door opened and Tony walked in, closing the door behind him. "Oh, hey Tony. Thanks again for letting me have this room." I sat up and patted the spot beside me. He sat down next to me.

"I just wanted to come apologize for the way that I was acting when I first got to Vic's. Sierra and I have been going through a rough patch lately, and it's just getting to me a bit." He wrung his hands together and looked down at the ground, completely avoiding eye contact with me.

"Hey, you don't need to apologize. You were in a bad mood, and I get that. You don't need to explain yourself." I placed my hand on his shoulder and he finally looked at me. "Trust me, Tony. It takes a lot more than that to truly upset me." I smiled at him, but he looked back down at the ground again.

"I know, but I still feel bad, especially for doing that right after what happened with Kody last night. It wasn't right, and I feel awful about it." I sighed and looked out the window.

"Oh my goodness, who hasn't Jaime told about that? I love him to death, but sometimes I just wish that he could keep some things a secret." I could feel him looking at me now I looked back at him and saw that he a confused look formed over his face. I looked down at my hands.

"Why would you not want us to know about something like that, Eve? That's not something small that can just be blown off. That asshole broke your heart and we all saw how much it tore you apart when that happened. We don't ever want to see you that broken and torn apart. I don't know what I would do if that happened again. I felt so useless, Eve. I didn't know how to help you and I hated it. I hated it so fucking much." Tony's voice cracked and I looked back at him, noticing his the tears in the corners of his eyes threatening to fall. He blinked them back and went back to wringing his hands and looking at the carpet.

I knew that I was a wreck after I finally got the courage to leave Kody, but I had no idea that it had this effect on the guys. I wasn't proud of some of the things that I had resorted to to find comfort in. They all had to watch me suffer through it, and no matter how hard they tried to help me, I was lost. It took me weeks to find the strength to do anything, but with Jaime's help, I slowly got better. I never stopped to think during any of that time that my situation had really affected any of them.

"Tony..." I grabbed his hands and held them in my lap. He looked back at me, tears forming in his eyes once again. "You don't understand how much you mean to me. You might have thought that you were useless, but you were such a good friend to me just by being there. You're a wonderful friend, Tone. I know that I mean a lot to you, and I certainly hope that you know you mean just as much, if not more, to me." I threw my arms around him and let a few tears slide down my cheeks. I wiped them as I pulled away. I looked into his deep, brown eyes and smiled.

"You're a wonderful friend, Evelyn." He smiled back at me and pulled me in for another hug. As soon as I pulled away there was a knock at the door, and before I could say anything Jaime, Mike, and Vic barged in.

"Oh yeah, sure, come on in guys. No problem, glad I wasn't changing or anything." I stood up and walked towards them with Tony following behind me.

"It's not like I haven't walked in on you changing before, Eve, get over it." Jaime said. I rolled my eyes at him. "Anyways, Mike thought it would be a good idea for us to go out and grab something to eat. Are you two down?"

"For sure, I'm starving." Tony said. I nodded my head in agreement.

"Alright, let's get going then. I think there are a few places nearby that we can just walk to and pick something up at." Mike said excitedly. The boys all walked out of the room and I followed closely behind them.
