Tony - 14

I had been at high school for about 5 months now, as I expected I didn't really fit in at all but that didn't bother me. I wasn't the type to want to fit in, I just wanted to be myself and keep to myself.

"Tony Turtle! Wake da fuck up!"

Leaping out of my bed I frantically ran up towards Isabelle who had just entered my room, a look of sheer fear crossed her features and her blue eyes wild as I approached her rapidly...my hand immediately covering up her mouth.

"Izzy language! I don't want me or you to get into shit first thing in the morning" Her blue eyes rolled in there sockets.

Uncovering her mouth she mouthed a quick sorry before perching herself on the end of my bed, she bounced slightly on the bed as her bum hit the mattress. Over the past few months Isabelle and myself had become best friends, she knew a lot about me and I knew a lot about her, hence the new nicknames.

"Perry get over yourself you parents are both out to work and your sister is still in the land of nod, anyway I can swear if I want who gives a fuck, you do it all the time" She replied sticking her tongue at me playfully.

"Yeah I suppose but I just do it when no adults are present that could ground my skinny ass" Isabelle smirked thinking I didn't see it, but I did

"Don't you mean fat ass" She replied jokingly, biting down on her bottom lip to supress the giggle waiting to escape.

"Oh it's fucking on!"

Before she could work out my master plan I had crossed the room in quick time, launching myself on to the bed. Isabelle shrieked in horror as I landed on top of her, a loud 'hmph' escaping her body upon my weight landing on her. I immediately started tickling her sides.

"Tony. Can't. Breathe....STOP.....IT" She shouted between laughter and tickles.

"Come on belle let's get today over and done with"

Holding out my hand for her to grab I helped her off my bed before grabbing my backpack, slinging it over my shoulder we rushed down the stairs and left for school.

"You going to come around later then to chill out, turtle? We can watch Nightmare before Christmas!" She asked her mouth opening out into a huge grin, her pearly white teeth showing almost instantly.


"You and that film! Yeah sure just got to go food shopping with mom and then I'll come over when I'm back"

Isabelle nodded at our plans before walking inside her house, her ponytail swinging from side to side to match her steps. As soon as I entered mine my mom ushered me into the car, urgent to get the shopping done as soon as possible. I didn't stop her either, the quicker we got back the quicker I get to see Isabelle.

An hour later and we pulled back into our driveway, I helped my mom bring in all the shopping and while she was packing them away I went upstairs quickly to grab a jacket. Just as I was about to leave my room however, my mom blocked my way worry etched all over her face.

"Tony, Isabelle just rang the doorbell in tears she is asking for you. I'll leave you two to it I'll be upstairs if you need me okay"

"Urm okay" I replied instantly wondering why Isabelle was upset.

Walking downstairs I noticed Isabelle standing in the hallway her vans violently shuffling against my laminate flooring, her head hung low as her brown locks hid her face. Something was definitely up.

"Belle what's up? Tell me your scaring me"

She didn't even say anything in response, instead she launched herself at me her arms wrapping instantly around my neck, she sobbed so hard once she had me close her tears immediately staining my white t-shirt.

"Isabelle please come on what's up, lets go to the sofa"

Placing my arm around her waist I guided her over to the sofa where we sat down, she shifted in my grip but eventually her crying subsided and she was able to string together some choice words.

"My granddad he passed away. He had a stroke and then got better, but caught MRSA and he literally just went just like that"

Shit! I knew her granddad was sick but I didn't know he was that bad. I was never any good with dealing with sympathy either, I just went awkward and I didn't know how to comfort anyone. I did all I could do and rub circles on her back to calm her down even further. She shuffled against the sofa material yet again and this time stared me directly in the eyes, my brown conflicting her blue ones, hers were beyond hurt.

"That's not all Turtle...I just found out he wasn't even my real granddad he was my stepgranddad"

Exhaling a lengthily breath I watched as Isabelle welled up again and burst into uncontrollable sobs, her body collapsing against mine. It killed me to see her like this but I had no idea what to do, so I asked her.

"Belle what do you want me to do to make you feel better?"

"Let me stay here with you please, you make me feel better"

So I let her stay we feel asleep on the sofa not saying a word, I just let her cry everything out and if she wanted to talk I would let her. She asked me at one point that if I left for the states that I was to take her with me, she had always wanted to go there I found out and so I promised her I would. Isabelle was only 14 and she already lost someone close to her and then found out they weren't as close to her as she originally thought, no one should ever have to go through that at that age...I had the feeling that wasn't going to be the end of it though.
