Feels like forever

Eyes Like A Car Crash

Zack’s POV

As I pulled away from her driveway, I sighed a little. Why did life have to throw us so many curveballs?

Ever since we moved from London to America, it had been pretty smooth sailing. Yeah, sometimes I would get bullied in school, but I always had Cece and Copeland to help me through it.

I met them so many years ago, but if felt like our friendship never really faded. Now, Cece was starting to drizzle out of the picture and I wanted her back. We were the three amigos, the three musketeers, the group that wouldn’t break apart!

But it seemed like, that’s all we were doing now a days. At least Copeland let me hang at her house today. My dad was going to meet with some old friends of his and my mom was cleaning the house. If I had stayed at my place any longer, I would’ve been roped into dusting all the picture frames!

My car hummed as I traveled down the street. It was starting to get awfully dark out here. The streetlights flickered to life as I passed them by. Another car whizzed past me, going way too fast. Shaking my head, I thought that the person will pay dearly if he or she gets into an accident.

My brain automatically set me on a route to my house. Hopefully Dad would be home by now. I think Jordan was out visiting for a while. They might actually be at the bar, now that I think about it.

I pulled onto the parkway, gradually increasing my speed. Headlights in the distance seemed to wobble back and forth on the road. No, I must just be seeing things. I was a little tired.

As the headlights grew closer, I realized that they were in fact wobbling. I heard the skid and screech of tires over my radio. Looking around, I found that we were alone on the road. It was just me and the car that was careening towards me.

It came closer.

I steered away, slowing down a bit as the headlights grew brighter and brighter.

And it came closer.

But then, it hit me head on.

The other car swerved head on into my lane. The car was going the wrong way. I had done everything right, but I was still paying the price. The airbag popped out hard enough to blow me back. My seatbelt kept me from flying through the windshield that had a spider web of cracks through it.

And this all happened in less than a second.

But I kept traveling forward. I felt something snap in my legs and my head hit something. It was as if the entire car was being crushed like a soda can. My mind slowly started to fade out. No, not my mind fading out, it was my life.

Blood pooled around me as I was helpless. The dark night crashed over me as all I felt was pain. I felt dear agony tear and gnaw at my limbs. A bone was sticking out of my leg. I wondered how the other guy had faired.

It seemed like an eternity before the sirens came.

But when they did, I was already gone.
