Memories Never Fade

"I KNOW WHO HE IS!" Julie screamed as soon as her oldest friend and roommate, Faith, opened the door of her room.

"Good fucking morning to you too" Faith groaned and wiped the sleep out of her eyes.

"The man from my dreams, I know who he is" Julie walked into the kitchen and handed Faith her coffee cup. "It's-"

Faith raised her hand stopping Julie in the middle of her sentence. "Victor Fuentes"

Julie stared at Faith, astonished. Her mouth hung open and her eyes grew wide. "How did you...?"

"I knew from the moment you told me about the dream" Faith said, glaring at Julie from the rim of her coffee mug.

As soon as Julie told Faith about the dream she knew. She had watched Julie not only go through the relationship but recover from it and there wasn't a doubt in her mind that it was Vic. Faith never told Julie about it though, she figured that Julie needed to figure it out for herself. Julie needed to admit to herself that she wasn't completely over Vic.

"Victor was the first person you ever really loved" Faith explained,"what you guys had was so serious so fast. Yeah he made mistakes but you still loved him for everything that he was."

"But Fae, I left! Did you forget our trip? How I cried all the way from San Diego to San Francisco?" Julie tried her best to hold back tears. It has been so long since she thought about Vic and everything he put her through.

"How could I forget? But J, you seem to forget how many times you called him afterwards. No matter what I said or did you always found a way to him"

Julie nodded, recalling the memory of e-mails and phone calls sent between the two of them.

"Then he stopped calling and replying." Tears formed again but this time Julie didn't hold anything
back. "I never got closure, I just got angry"

"And then you moved on" Fae held onto Julie while she cried. These tears were 6 years overdue and Julie needed to let it out.

"Okay. Okay. I'm okay now" Julie sighed after a few minutes of uncontrollable crying. "I need to get to the office - out of this apartment"

Julie got up from her seat and walked into the bathroom to wash the rest of her make up off. The cool water helped her to calm down and breathe. It had been so long since Julie cried, it felt foreign to her. The last time she cried was right after she finally realized she wasn't getting a reply from Vic. She had called his phone, she even called his mom, but when she got no calls back she realized that Vic was done with her. She remembered crying herself to sleep that night and waking up with the worst migraine she had ever had. After that day she promised herself she would move on. Julie reminded herself why she moved out of town in the first place - a new start.
Julie re-applied her make up, looked over her appearance and headed our for the day. She stopped to hug and say goodbye to Fae.

"Call me of you need me, I'll be home all day"

"Thanks, I will. Love you"

As Julie left the house she couldn't help but feel that she had forgotten something. Her stomach was tied in knots and her brain searched for anything missing. Once she got into her car her phone rang. It was Fae.

"Hello? I just left, what on earth have you done?" She joked, finally able to smile.

"Nothing I swear. You left a folder underneath your laptop. Looks important. Should I put in your room or just leave it? "

"Oh shit" julie cursed, totally forgetting about the research she had to do for a band she was interviewing. "Open the first page, at the top what band does it say?"

"Umm, Pierce The Veil?" Fae read the name and was confused. "What kind of band name is that?"

"That'll be the first question I ask them" Julie giggled. "I'll run up and grab it now"

Julie hung up and bolted to the door hoping to beat the traffic on the freeway. Thankfully Fae held the door open and just stuck her hand out with the folder in it.

"You're the best" Julie yelled as she ran back down the hall way of her apartment complex.

Once she was back in her car Julie put the folder on the passengers seat and opened the front page.

"Pierce the Veil," she read out loud. "Cali natives - awesome- members, Tony Perry bassist. Jaime Preciado guitarist, and Mike and Vic Fuentes" Julie slammed on her breaks which caused the driver behind her to slam his hand on his car horn.

"Well fuck me silly and call me Nancy" she said as she continued driving to her office. "This will be interesting"

~~~~~
Vic sat in the living room with his friends tightly clutching onto Mike's phone and staring at the name on the screen. Once he cut off communication between him and Julie he never thought he'd hear from her again. But here he was, reading and re-reading the email that stated that he would have to sit down and have a professional interview with her.
"Bro are you okay?" Mike asked finally grabbing the phone out of his brother's hands.
"Yeah." Vic said, trying to convince not only his friends but also himself. "I'm cool. It just took me by surprise"
"Why is this such a big deal anyway? " Jaime asked.
Vic never talked about Julie to anyone other than Tony. Mike knew her from the times that Vic would invite Julie over but Mike never knew why she left or on what terms. The only reason why Tony knew was because he was the only one around when Vic was freaking out over his reoccurring dream.
Tony noticed something wrong with Vic and asked Vic what was bothering him. It took a while but Tony finally got Vic to tell him EVERYTHING about his relationship with Julie. He told Tony all the mistakes he made; cheating, lying and everything else. Vic explained to Tony how he really felt towards Julie, something he never told anyone - not even Julie.
Vic looked up and locked eyes with Tony, who nodded, encouraging him to tell the group his story. "I met her in my junior year of high school, she was still a sophomore. She danced in the school musical we had..." Vic started. His hands were tightly holding on to each other and resting in his lap. Vic could see the tips of his fingers turn white but didn't ease up on his grip.
Vic told the Jaime and Mike everything he told Tony. "I treated her like she was a back up plan and in reality, she was the only plan I really had"
Jaime looked at Vic, his face full of realization. "BESITOS!" He screamed. "That song is her song isn't it? It's about her?"
Still looking down at his hands Vic nodded. "Yeah. She inspired a lot of the album actually..."
"Oh wow. I'm sorry. I didn't know man" Mike said, raising a hand and putting it on his brother's shoulder. "I didn't know she meant this much to you" Mike gave Vic's shoulder a gentle squeeze.
Vic looked up and his eyes met his brother's. "Its okay, I kept our relationship very private"
"Where are you going" Tony asked, noticing Vic stand up from the sofa.
"To mentally prepare myself for seeing the only girl I've ever loved" Vic said, his voice sounded defeated.
As Vic walked away and into his room he thought about Julie and what she would look like. He wondered if she would still have her short black hair, it suited her better than her natural hair. He thought about her bright and wide smile, of she still smiled the same and of she laughed as much as she used to. Vic remembered how much he loves her eyes. When Vic had a bad day or felt like the world was crumbling down on him all he needed to do was look into her eyes and get lost. He thought about their colour and depth and how they seemed to change into the colour of honey when they were in the sunlight.
Vic noticed how hot his skin felt and how his stomach filled with butterflies. Vic knew that he had never really gotten over her. There was no amount of lyrics or songs that could get rid of the feelings he had for Julia. Thoughts and questions flooded Vic's mind.
"I still love her" Vic muttered to himself, a smile spread wide across his face.
