Bulletproof Love

Selfish Machines

“What’s your name, sweetie?” Vic said into the mic, still smiling at me.
“Dylan,” my voice was practically quivering because I was so nervous.
“That’s a sweet ass name, Dylan.” I giggled and nodded slightly. The rest of the band was still playing the instrumental, and finally Vic joined in. “This isn’t far, don’t you try to blame this on me, my love for you was bulletproof, but you’re the one who shot me,”
He then pointed to me and held the mic next to my lips. On instinct, I sang, “And goddamnit, I can barely say your name, so I’ll try to write it, and fill the pen with blood from the sink,”
“Give it up for Dylan, guys!”
The crowd, once again, went wild. I’d been told that I can sing before, but I never believed people. I used to sing a lot with my friends as a kid but I never took it seriously.
I sat down next to Vic on a metal fold-out chair that someone from the crew had brought out for me. He switched between singing to the crowd and singing to me, both of which made me feel a certain kind of happiness and attention that I hadn’t felt in a long time.
At the end of the song, everyone cheers, confetti flies, and Vic hugs me, then he put something around my neck. I look down and see that they were two backstage passes! He either saw me and Drew together, or this was a coincidence. Regardless, my sister and I were going to personally meet and talk to our favorite band! Tonight couldn’t possibly get any better.
The security guards helped me back over the barricade and into the crowd, where I was reunited with Drew. The crowd was now moving over to the area where the meet and greet was going to happen. We both had t-shirts we wanted them to sign, but we decided not to go the meet and greet, seeing as how we were going to see them backstage anyway.
We walked around the venue a bit, and finally found the backstage door.
“Hi, um, we have backstage passes…” I said to the security guard standing tall at the door. I was a bit intimidated, because he was quite a bit bigger than me and very muscular.
“Ah, yes, well the guys are still at the meet and greet, so you can wait here until they’re done.”
Drew and I sat down on the curb directly in front of the backstage door and waited for the arrival of Pierce the Veil. After about 30 minutes, I spotted Vic and smiled. He walked over to me and said, “You ready to go backstage?”
“Yeah,” I responded enthusiastically. “Oh, and by the way, this is Drew, my sister,” I gestured towards Drew.
“Oh, hi, I’m Vic,” Vic flashed her his beautiful smile.
“I know,” she chuckled nervously. “Nice to meet you,” Her cheeks burned a bright pink, and I was surprised she was keeping her cool.
Vic led the way backstage and into their dressing room. Jaime and Mike were sitting on fold out chairs, wiping sweat off of their foreheads and talking about the show.
“Guys, we have a guest,” Vic said.
“Oh, it’s Bulletproof Love girl and friend,” Jaime said, slightly chuckling.
“Haha, I’m Dylan and this is my sister Drew,”
“’Sup,” said Mike. He looked past me and met eyes with Drew, who grinned at him. They looked at each other for about 30 seconds, although it felt way longer. Jaime, Vic, and I exchanged glances, acknowledging the awkwardness of the situation. I nudged Drew in the side and she broke her staring contest with Mike to look at me.
Jaime cleared his throat to break the silence. “Well, what did you guys think of the show?”
“It was awesome! You guys sound great live,” Drew said for the first time in the room.
Mike nodded and said “That’s cool,” and smiled. He started to stare at Drew again, so I rolled my eyes and looked away from to two.
I glanced over to my right, and caught a glimpse of Tony shirtless, evidently changing from his sweaty tank top into a dry t-shirt. I bit my tongue to keep my jaw from dropping, but I didn’t stop looking. I could see a lot of his tattoos, as he was covered from the waist up to his neck. Tattoos are beautiful, and Tony looked amazing with all of his ink. His stretched ears were seemingly the same size as mine, and I grinned at my observation.
Almost as if he felt my stare, he looked up at me and blushed. I did the same, and soon the room was filled of awkward attraction. Jaime and Vic looked at each other and sighed.

Vic’s P.O.V
Well, this was insanely awkward. Drew and Mike, Dylan and Tony, and now Jaime and I were left to observe the attraction happen. I was kinda jealous of Dylan and Tony, though. Technically I saw her first, right? I chose her from the crowd, and I brought her on stage, not Tony.
But I refused to let myself get worked up over some fan. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love all our devoted fans, but I can’t get too attached, you know?
“Alright guys, well we have about an hour before we leave here, so why don’t you guys get comfortable and tell us about yourselves?” I was the one who broke the silence this time, and gestured toward a loveseat that Dylan and Drew could sit on.
Tony walked over and sat on a metal chair next to Dylan, I sat next to Tony, and Mike sat next to Drew. We were all in a big circle
“Well,” Drew started, “Dylan and I are sisters, I’m 26 and she’s 24. We grew up in Boston, and I moved here when I was 18. When Dylan turned 18, she came to join me, but now I live with my fiancée and son, and Dylan lives alone,” Mike had been staring intensely at Dylan while she talked, but his eyes dropped when he heard her talk about her fiancée.
“What do you guys do for a living?” Jaime asked.
“Drew’s in med school, and I own a tattoo and piercing shop,” Dylan smiled proudly as she announced her job to us, and Tony’s face lit up.
“You do tattoos?” he asked with his smile beaming.
“Only shading, a friend of mine does the sketches and outlines. I also do some of the piercings.”
“Oh,” he looked away and Dylan frowned. Did I miss something…?
We talked a bit more about Dylan’s shop, Drew’s family, and all of our childhoods. About forty-five minutes later, Dylan and Drew decided to go home. We took a few quick pictures and said our good-byes. “Thanks, you guys, we love you all so much and your music is amazing,” Drew said. I was used to hearing things like this from fans, but it still felt nice every time. We all said you’re welcome to Drew and gave her and Dylan hugs.
“Do you guys remember the way outside?” I asked.
“Not really,” Dylan said, chuckling.
“Ok, I’ll walk you guys out,”
I led the way out of our dressing room and to the door leading outside. We said goodbye once again, and as the girls started to walk away, I had an abrupt thought.
“Wait!” I called after them.
“Yeah?” Dylan and Drew stopped and turned around.
I jogged over to Dylan. “Can I have your number?” I said. She chuckled and handed me her phone.
