Too Young To Live This Way

I Can't Get Chicago Off My Mind

Nine Months in

My back hurt, my ankles hurt and I had to pee every five minutes. People said that being pregnant was great? Well I was struggling to find the benefits of this at the moment. Sure I’ll have a baby girl after but seriously what was good about needing to pee so often.

There was a knocking on the door and I waited to see if Austin was going to get it but all I heard was him singing upstairs in the studio. I groaned as I waddled towards the door. The knocking came again.

“Geez! Pregnant lady walking!” I yelled a few steps away from the door. I opened the door and squeezed my eyes shut as a party popper exploded in my face. Izzy stood on the porch with Benjamin in her arms and surrounded by people.

“Baby shower!” She laughed at me as she bundled her way inside. Benjamin was three months old and Izzy had slimmed back down to her natural weight. I sat on the sofa as Izzy, Phil, Tino, Oli, Alex, Jack, Zack, Rian, Kellin, Jesse, Gabe, Jenna, Gus, Alan, Gerard, Derek and my parents all piled into the house, each carrying a present.

“Austin!” I yelled up the stairs and he came rushing down, sweat dripping down his face.

“Yeah, angel?”

“What the hell is going on?” I waved my arm at all the people that had gathered in the living room and Austin just shrugged at me.

“Fuck if I know.”

“Language, Austin.” My mother admonished him and he muttered an apology with a blush. He sat on the sofa and made me sit next to me. My parents gave us their present first. I opened the pretty pink paper and pulled out an old blanket.

“That was your baby blanket. It was your grandma’s then mine then yours and now its Mia’s.” my dad patted my back with a smile.

There were so many present passed to us I wasn’t sure what to do but Austin took it all in stride and thanked everyone for everything. Everyone stayed for a while before I started getting sleepy. Austin made them leave as he helped me into the bedroom.

“Are you sure you’re okay to come?” Austin asked for the billionth time that I day. I was close to slapping his across the face if he asked me once more. They were doing show a town over and I’d decided to go with them. I wasn’t sure for another week so I had no worries.

“I swear, Austin. I’m going to hurt you.” I growled at him as I stood from the bar stool and headed towards the bedroom to pack some clothes for me and him. It was one show but Austin tended to want to change his clothes more than once before going on stage.

“I’m looking out for you, baby.” Austin whispered as he came into the bedroom and sat on the bed with a smile. I couldn’t help but smile back at him. I could see he was excited about be a father and I’d finally decided that I was happy with this. With having a baby and being a family with Austin.

“Alright, let’s go. We’ve got to be there for seven and it is now four.” Austin said as he picked the backpack up and took my hand in his. We climbed into the BMW and chose which radio station to listen to.

“How are you?” Austin asked with a worried glance in my way.

“If you ask me once more I’m going to smack that pretty face of yours, got me?”

“Got you.” He nodded as he started straight ahead to the road as he made the turn we needed. We were there within the hour and I shook my head at his worry. He coughed and rubbed his throat as a motorbike whizzed past and he inhaled the fumes.

“Let’s get inside.” He grumbled as he led me inside to the huge arena. It was sold out, which was no surprise with the one off show. They’d only played eight shows in the last nine months since I’d gotten pregnant and I felt terrible since it felt like I was the one holding him back.

I sat on a tattered overstuffed sofa as he wandered around to stage and getting a feel of it. He did it before every show. He made sure there was enough room for him to move around and not hit anyone since an incident in the beginning of their career where he smacked Alan in the face.

The show was due to start in three hours and I pulled my tablet out of my bag, which Austin had bought me for my birthday, and opened the e-reader app as he messed around on the stage. I was halfway through a chapter when a commotion caught my ear.

I stood from the sofa and walked onto the stage to find Austin pinning some boy to the wall with his arm to his throat.

“Austin what the hell are you doing?” I screamed at him as I made my over to him.

“He was holding a knife.” Austin glared at him and the boy shook his head at me.

“I swear it wasn’t for anything bad. I work here and I was told to cut down the curtain over there.” The boy lifted a hand and pointed to a curtain that was in front of the stage. I walked up to Austin and took his hand away from the boy. He dropped like a rag doll.

“I’m sorry.” Austin said to him before turning on his heel and walking away towards backstage. I knelt down and helped the boy to sit up. There was a bruise forming where Austin had pinned him to the wall.

“I’m sorry for him. He’s been a little overprotective lately.” I said to him as I ran my hand over my belly.

“With every reason.” He smiled as he stood up and took the knife that was on the floor. “I need to get back to my job.”

I went back to backstage and sat on the sofa where my tablet was. Austin was sitting in front of the mirror with a pot of hair gel and styling his hair. The arena had started to fill an hour later and I stood as he poked his head out of the curtain.

“It’s going to be epic!” he said with a huge grin. Soon enough the support bands were finished and Austin and the band took the stage. I sat on the stool behind the speaker as he bounced around the stage with a huge smile. I stood up as my back started to ache a techy asked if I was okay and I just nodded to him.

I took a step and a flood of liquid rushed from my body and down my pants onto the floor. Then the pain appeared. It was like a light period cramp and I knew what was happening. Without thinking about it I walked straight out onto the stage and tapped Austin’s shoulder. He turned to me mid-song and frowned.

“Taylor?”

“My water just broke. We need to get to the hospital.”
