I Saw The Moon Divorce The Sky
Chapter Ten
The following morning Erica went for breakfast with Chad and Zeke. She informed them of Oli’s offer to go on tour with Bring Me the Horizon in a couple of months and they were more than happy with the idea of it.
When the boys gave their reaction Erica gave a call to Oli and told him the news, he was glad to hear they were all on board and said he would speak to all the people that needed to be spoken to when planning a tour.
During breakfast the boys brought up what Vic had the day before and Erica simply told them that they had a little tiff over something silly but all is sorted now. She hated lying but she didn’t want to tell everyone that she and Jaime were going on a date. She had told Jaime that she doesn’t think it’s a good idea to tell anyone anything just yet and he agreed with her. Erica’s main concern with people finding out was with the fans, what would they think of her and how they might think she’s a slut or something silly like that. Erica knows she shouldn’t let it get to her if and when it comes out but she was preparing herself anyway.
After breakfast Erica decided she would go to the cemetery and see Mike. She hadn’t been since just before Warped Tour and felt like a visit was due. When she arrived there she went and sat in front of his grave, a cup of coffee (with whiskey) in hand. She had bought along the letter that Hannah wrote and a single pink rose; pink roses were Mike’s favourite. Erica didn’t like flowers, other than daisies but she always allowed pink roses in the apartment because they always made Mike smile.
“Hey handsome, sorry I haven’t stopped by in a while. I’ve been on Warped this year, as you know. It was so much fun, we met loads of people this year, more than usual and it was brilliant.
The music program we set up in your honour did really well, we got to teach so many kids and to just see how much love and passion for music they have was inspiring, it was so incredible. Hopefully in the future when they’re headlining Warped they’ll give credit to you. I mean, it’s not the greatest reason to have a music program but you inspired a lot of them when you were here and now we’ve managed to help a lot of them since you left.
Gosh I miss you so much. We all do, Vic still doesn’t know what to do without you. We have each other though so we like to think we’re doing okay. I bought along a picture of Michael and Tony since you haven’t seen him yet. He’s such a cutie and Tony is doing a brilliant job. I told Vic about how we were going to adopt, he felt sorry for me which I hate but I guess there isn’t anything else he could feel for me really. He’s got a baby on the way too and you just know he’s going to love that kid more than anything in the entire world.
I also bought along a letter that a girl wrote me, she said how you saved her life and how you would message her when she was sad and needed a friend; I never knew you did that and I think it just shows how truly amazing you are.
I wanted to ask you something, something serious. I know it’s hard for you to hear or witness or whatever but I want your blessing before I go on this date with Jaime, tomorrow, I want to know that you’re okay with it. I can’t move on until you say I can. So if you have any way of saying ‘hey E, I love you but go for it. Have fun with Jaime’ then please do so.
Lastly I just want to tell you I love you and will do so until the end of time. I hope you and Caleb are having fun and aren’t causing too much trouble wherever you may be. I’m going to see Tony and Isla for lunch so I have to go but I’ll come back soon”
Erica stayed facing Mike’s headstone for a couple of minutes before making any effort to get up and leave, she liked to treasure these moments with him. Just before she left she read out the letter from Hannah, so Mike could see just how much he impacted that girl’s life. Erica knows that talking to him won’t do anything but it’s good to get these things out, she finds. She walked over to his headstone and kissed it. She then placed the rose and picture at the base of it.
As Erica was walking back to her car, the sky began to clear. It hadn’t been raining but it had been a little grey today. As the clouds parted a rainbow was unveiled and Erica just laughed to herself. In her own little way she was taking this as Mike acknowledging everything that she had just said to him. It probably isn’t him but she wasn’t going to let anyone tell her otherwise. She decided that she would also take this as his blessing for her and Jaime.
The whole car journey to Tony and Isla’s place Erica was smiling and giggling. She was playing an old mix tape that Mike had made her and was wearing the bracelet that the Disneyland couple got her for her 24th birthday, today was a day full of reminiscing but it was also a day of looking forward, looking at all the great possibilities to come.
Erica was excited about her date with Jaime even more now. She had also decided that if something serious does come of this and fans or anyone they know doesn’t like it, then she would tell them where to shove their opinion. This is her life and she’s going to live it how she wants to. She’s going to live it up as much as she can because life is short and your time on earth can end at any minute so why not take each and every opportunity presented to you, right?
Lunch with Tony and Isla was full of laughs, Vic and Emily had come along and they all had a picnic in the backyard. Jaime was going to come along with Jacob and Amanda but Jacob has come down with a cold so they stayed at home.
Michael is about 7 months old now and is growing up so fast, he’s gotten so big and is crawling all over the place. Most of lunch was watching him and laughing when he did something cute. Emily was getting nervous about a baby but she was excited, Vic hadn’t got nervous yet. He likes to think since two of his best friends have had children and he’s been there with them that he might be able to pull it off. He can’t wait to be able to say that he’s a daddy. Emily was only in her second trimester though so they have a while to go yet.
After lunch everyone went inside, Vic and Erica insisted on tidying up though. Mainly so they could have a chat.
“Emily’s looking so well for a pregnant person” Erica laughed.
“Yeah, she holds it well. We found something out last week and I’m not supposed to tell anyone yet but I can’t keep it a secret” Vic said excitedly.
“If it will get you into trouble I don’t want to know…. Okay that’s a lie, I want to know even more” Erica laughed.
“Okay, don’t tell anyone but we’re having twins” Vic enthused.
“Oh shit, that’s so cool. I promise to keep it a secret” Erica smiled.
“Thank you, I’m so excited. Anyway enough about me, how did your talk with Jaime go?” Vic enquired.
“Really well, we’re going on a date tomorrow. We’re not telling anyone about all of this just yet either, well with the exception of you, Jaime knows that you know everything so it’s okay” Erica said and walked into the kitchen to put some things in the sink.
“That’s good, I’m happy for you” Vic said as he followed her into the kitchen and gave her a hug.
“Thank you. I spoke to Mike too, don’t judge me” she laughed “And I think he’s okay with it. I probably sound like a crazy woman” Erica laughed once more.
“No you don’t. I talk to him too. I go to his grave and just sit for ages talking to him. It’s not crazy at all. I’ve already said it before but I do think he’d be happy with this, you’re too young to not have fun” Vic gave Erica a kiss on the cheek and reconvened with everyone in the living room and Erica followed him.
“Everything is all cleaned up” Erica announced as she sat on one of the couches.
“Thank you guys” Isla said sweetly.
