Forget Regret
Forty Eight; I'll Be Here When You Wake Up
"Look. Watch this, and then everyone has to stop yelling at me. 'Cept for Charley. She can yell at me whenever she wants." Mike said as soon as he came through the door.
Viv put the DVD Mike handed her into the DVD player. Mike sitting at the bar came on screen. A few minutes later, a petite brunette came over and slipped something into his drink when he wasn't looking. Sure enough, he never left the bar. Mike had never been with anyone else that night. There was never anyone else.
"Jesus, Mike. You really ought to be more careful." Viv said.
"Crazy bitch." Mike shook his head. "Charley, can we go home?"
I smiled. It felt like I knew my boyfriend for the first time in months.

"I'm so sorry. For everything." Mike said.
"Mikey, this wasn't your fault. It was that psychotic whore's fault. I'm so tired of us fighting and all the drama. Can we just move on?" I sighed.
"Can we still get married?" He asked with puppy eyes.
I climbed onto his lap. "Of course we can."
"I love you, you know?" He asked, kissing the top of my head.
"I love you very much." I smiled.
"Things can be normal now. Just you and me and our son. No more stupid girls trying to get between us or goddamn cruise ship assholes." Mike continued.
"Mmm. That sounds good. Do me a favour and never go on tour ever again, okay?" I shut my eyes dreamily.
"We don't have anything coming up soon. Baby?" Mike asked carefully.
"What?"
"I'm going to Austin's house tomorrow." He said.
"Why is that?" I asked.
"Make things right, I guess. I don't want us to get married with him still hating me." Mike replied.
So much angst had fallen off my shoulders in one day. "That sounds lovely."
"Are you even listening to me anymore?" Mike chuckled.
"You're warm." I mumbled.
"Go to sleep, Charley bear. This time, I'll be here when you wake up."
