Several days later I was making tea in my apartment when my phone rang."Charley Murphy!"
I laughed. "Hi, Vic babe. What's up?"
"So what's this I hear about you losing a lot of weight?"
"None of anyone's damn business, that's what."
"Are you good, Charley?"
"Just peachy."
"I have a surprise for you."
"Yeah?"
"What would you say if I told you that you could go on an all-expenses paid vacation to Latin America?"
"I'd ask you what the catch is."
"Mike would be there."
I sighed. "I'm listening.
"So for my birthday my parents booked me and the guys a cruise, but she got a ticket for Jessica, you know, Jaime's girlfriend but she can't go."
"So you want me to come?"
"Damn skippy I do."
"Only for your birthday. Is she going?"
"Unfortunately."
"When does this cruise leave?"
"Tomorrow morning."
"God damn it, Vic! Why didn't you tell me earlier? Okay, text me the details. I have to get packing!"
I smiled for the first time in days. Maybe things were turning around.

"This is so badass." I said as we boarded the ship.
"A whole week of this." Jaime agreed.
"And we can get drunk every single day." Tony added.
"I need to call your mom and tell her how cool she is. We went shopping last week and she was telling me all about it, but I had no idea I was going." I smiled.
They all stared at me. "You go shopping with Mama Fuentes?"
"Totally. Me and Viv are tight." I shrugged. "I helped her pick out a dress. She and Victor are in Hawaii, right?"
"They are?" Vic asked.
"They're renewing their vows. She didn't tell you?" I asked.
"How is it that you know more about my parents than I do?" He asked.
"I'm an honourary member of the Fuentes family." I laughed. "Can we go see the room?"
The six of us were living in extremely tight quarters for the next week. Four beds, one shower. Not even a god damn bathtub.
"Dibs." I climbed on the top bunk of one of the beds.
"But it's my birthday." Vic pouted.
"Your birthday was in February, babe." I rolled my eyes. "Deal with it."
"We can order room service at any time!" Jaime yelled. "This is the coolest thing ever."
"Liquor order form." I grinned, observing the papers fanned out on the bed. "Let's go to the bar and this vacation started."
