Red Eyes
Anna's P.O.V.
I leaned back in my chair, and stared at the ceiling, the show was amazing probably the best one we had ever put on.All the bands were set up in the entrance for a meet and greet, and signing.I sat to the side while all the people smiled as they met their idols.They each had a small story to tell, hearing some of them brought tears to my eyes. I looked over to Vic. He was quite a few years older than me, yet he looked so young.His hair was pretty long for a guy and he had obviously straightened it, but by now his hair had begun to curl a bit from the sweat on stage. He must have felt me staring at him 'cause he turned his head and smiled at me.I looked away from him with a blush on my face.Why am I falling so hard for him? This is ridiculous!Band boys are nothing but a bunch of assholes who don't want anything other than sex!But still... Vic just seems so much different to me.I looked back towards him and a fan who couldn't have been more than 15 was crying her eyes out right in front of Vic.He stood up and pulled her into a hug.You could see the shock in her eyes as he said something in her ear, she gave him a sad smile and she dried her tears.
He is just too perfect. My phone started to buzz and I looked at the name, Miss Maggie, she took mom to her house tonight. I stood up and walked out of the room to take the call.
"Hello?" I asked.
"ANNA!" She sounded frantic."Honey , your mom collapsed on her way to the guest room, I called an ambulance and they are on their way over right now!"My heart sank, and my knees became weak, I grabbed the wall to steady myself. "We're going to Sentara, meet us there as quick as you can." "Is she still breathing?" I said almost out of air myself."Yes, sort of, it seems hard for her." By now I couldn't breathe.I heard her door open and the sound of men's voices.Lizzie walked in and saw me crying.She rushed over to me. "Anna I have to go now honey." She hung up and I dropped my phone.Lizzie picked it up and looked at the screen. "What's going on Anna?" She looked at me.
"She passed out... They are on the way to the hospital, I'm scared." I sank down to the floor.Lizzie wrapped her head around the situation finally. "I'll grab the keys, stay here I'll tell the guys too and your aunt."She ran off into the next room and I just sat and cried.I felt a hand on my shoulder and I looked up to find Vic kneeling next to me. "Hey, Lizzie told me, I'm coming with you guys."
"You have the signing.."
"The boys are taking care of it, I thought you could use a little added support." Lizzie came around the corner with the keys to my jeep and we piled in.I sat with Vic in the back while Lizzie drove.My aunt's car right behind us.He held my hand and I cried in his shoulder all the way to the hospital.
We got there, to find Maggie standing in the waiting room of the emergency wing.She was walking back and forth, breathing heavily, and her eyes were red as hell from crying. "Mags!" I yelled as I let go of Vic and ran towards her. "Have they said anything? What's going on?" I said all in a jumble of words. Thankfully she understood me. "They haven't been out yet to tell me what happened." We waited for hours in the hospital, this place was way too familiar for me.Sitting in here always brought me horrible memories.The day they diagnosed her, the multiple surgeries, the chemo, and appointments. Too many nights spent alone sleeping on a hospital room couch, since I was 13.For years I had hoped my father would walk through the door and tell me everything would be okay, but he never did.All of this was making me shake, I was freezing in my little dress.
"Anna! Lizzie! Have you heard anything?" Kellin and my uncle had walked in the room, Kellin holding jeans and a t-shirt for both me and Lizzie. "Kellin, you are a life saver!" Lizzie grabbed them and threw me mine. We walked to the bathroom to change as fast as we could.When we walked out I saw a doctor standing next to my aunt and Mags, They were both cupping their faces with their hands.I felt as if I was going to puke, my stomach dropped and Lizzie held my arm.Something bad, they're crying, oh my god tell me she's not dead... what is going on... how do I go on...what will I- My thoughts were cut off by Lizzie hugging me. "We don't know anything yet, so let's go find out." She locked my arm in hers. The doctor turned to us. "I'm her daughter, what happened?"
"Your mother is alive," I felt as if the world was just lifted off my chest. "but," Oh god.. "It seems the chemotherapy has takin' quite the toll on her body, and it's immune system. What I'm trying to say is-"
"Either the chemo or cancer is gonna kill her it doesn't matter what we do." I said harsher than I meant to.
"Well..." He was so uneasy about it. "yes." He began to walk away but turned around to tell us what room number she was in and that she may have up to about a month to live.We walked in the room, Vic got a call, it was Mike so he went in the hallway to tell him what was happening.I sat next to my mother crying, she was running her hand through my hair like she always did when I would cry.I fell asleep crying.
Vic's P.O.V.
She looked so peaceful, yet in so much pain.Anna's aunt had gone home for the night and Lizzie and Kellin went to grab a bite to eat from the food court downstairs."Vic." I looked up at the smiling Ms. Olivia. "Yea? Do you need something?"
"Nope, I just wanted to thank you, for being here for her.The last time I saw her happy, was on the fishing trip her father took her on, the day before he left.She came home talking about how many fish she caught, how great she felt about it all. And then the next day we awoke to a note, that stated he was leaving 'cause he couldn't bear to watch me wither away.But I saw the open bill laying on the coffee table. That day, the Anna I knew left, and I never saw her again until you all showed up." She smiled and coughed. "Thank You."
I didn't know what to say I sat in awe."You're welcome." I managed to get out."Make me a promise, Vic." She turned her head towards me again. "Anything..."
"If she falls in love with you, please take care of her."
"I promise." I said.
Kellin and Lizzie walked in with chick-fil-a in their hands. "I thought you were going to the food court?" I asked as they handed me a bag with a sandwich and fries in it."We did, but the food looked disgusting." Lizzie sat next to Anna and her mom. She nudged them awake and handed them some food. "You spoil me too much." Olivia laughed. Anna still had a solemn face on. "I'm not hungry."She put the food back in the bag and sat down on the couch next to me, rubbing her sleepy eyes. Lizzie threw it at her face and Olivia laughed. Which caused Kellin and I to laugh as well.A smile crept up Anna's face. "Watch it girl! Or next thing you know you'll be eating pickles!" Anna yelled, she smiled a little then looked at her mother."Momma?" Olivia turned on her side to face her. "Yes baby girl?"
"What do I do?"
"You go on... get the hell out of this town. And live a dream, alright?"
"I can't... How do you expect me to-" She was cut off by Lizzie.
"That's what I'm here for. To be the support you need." She said while hugging Anna's neck. "I'm here too if ya need me hun." Kellin sat next to her.
"Um yea, me too." I said all awkwardly.They all turned towards me and I scratched the back of my head I smiled.Anna started crying again. Yep way to go Vic ya made her cry. "Thanks." Was all she said in between sobs.She hugged them and sat next to me on the couch. She leaned in on my shoulder.I leaned back so she could get comfortable.
A Week Later...
"I understand guys." Anna said half heartedly smiling. "You've got tour. Good Luck." I hate leaving her right now, especially knowing she needs us all right now. "We can stay a few days longer if you want." Kellin chimed in, I nodded in agreement.
"No! There are so many fans who want to see you guys play I'm not gonna hold you all to myself!"She hugged us both and stepped back. I began to walk away but I had to do one last thing before I left. "Hey Anna!" She turned to me. "I promise I'll be back as soon as I get the chance!" I kissed her cheek and began my walk back to the bus.All I could think about on that ride was her lonesome eyes.She had so much hidden beauty it was unreal.
