Doesn't Really Matter

Thirty Three - New Years

Jaime’s eyes fluttered open as he awoke from a relatively light sleep. He grabbed his phone from underneath his pillow and clicked the top button, wanting it to light up so he could check the time. It was 11:38 in the morning, which meant it wasn’t too early for him, or anyone else for that matter, to be awake. He jumped out of his bunk, making sure his feet made a loud thump when he hit the floor, and ran up and down the corridor, yelling, “IT’S FUCKING NEW YEARS EVE!! EVERY BODY GET UP!! LET’S GO!!”

Hearing this, and being quite ticked off at the rude awakening his band member and boyfriend brought to his comforting slumber, Tony poked his head out of his bunk and glared at him. “Jaime!” he whisper-yelled as he squinted his eyes at the light. “What the fuck are you doing? It’s early!”

“Actually, it’s almost noon.” Jaime walked closer to Tony as he spoke. “And besides, it’s the last day of 2013! Live a little, baby!” He bent slightly to give Tony a kiss on the lips, which he gladly accepted before letting out a defeated sigh and jumping out of his bunk to join his boyfriend.

Apparently, Tony wasn’t the only person Jaime had awoken with his antics. As Tony walked into the kitchen to make himself some coffee, Mike and his drum tech Casey stepped out from their bunks as well. “What the hell is all the commotion about?” Mike asked, rubbing his eyes.

“Jaime thinks that we should ‘live a little’ because it’s the last day of the year,” Tony said as he rolled his eyes and leaned against the counter with crossed arms.

And because we get to go home today!” Jaime bounced over to where the bus driver was seated. “Hey, where are we?”

“Nearing the western border of Arizona. So, about five hours away from San Diego.”

“Hey, Jaime,” Casey called. “Are you still throwing that New Years party?”

“Yep. I’ve been planning it all week. Starts at 10:30. You guys coming?”

Mike and Casey nodded and grunted in agreement, while Tony said, “Do I have a choice?” He cocked an eyebrow at Jaime in a semi-flirtatious manner.

Jaime walked over to the taller man and placed his hands ever so gently on his hips. Jaime stood on his toes and put his lips close to Tony’s ear before whispering, “No.”

“Gross,” Mike interjected with a chuckle. “I’m getting in the shower.”

“Yeah, and I’m going…somewhere else,” Casey turned to walk away, and with that Tony and Jaime were left alone.

Jaime laughed a little and backed away from Tony, leaving him somewhat turned on from his little flirtatious approach. “I can’t believe they’re still weirded out by this,” Tony said more to himself than to his boyfriend, but of course, he responded nevertheless.

“Does that bother you?”

Tony poured himself a cup of coffee before offering some to Jaime, who refused. “Not really, it’s just the fact that I want them to hurry up and get used to us so I don’t feel guilty about our PDA’s.” He absentmindedly took a sip of his coffee, and gagged at how he’d forgotten to put cream and sugar in it.

“What the hell is a ‘PDA’?” Jaime asked, watching Tony pour cream into his beverage.

Tony chuckled. “It’s a public display of affection, Hime.”

“Well, why would you feel guilty about those?” Jaime sat down at the table. “It’s our relationship. Fuck what they think or do or say.”

Tony nodded and sat down across from him. “Yeah, you’re right.”

“So listen,” Jaime said, changing the subject. “About the party tonight - ”

“What party? There’s a party?” Vic asked, walking into the front lounge and scratching his hair.

Jaime exclaimed, “Well, good morning, sleepyhead!”

“Jaime’s throwing a New Years party tonight at his place,” Tony spoke while drinking his coffee.

“Like tonight? We’re kinda still on the road, dude.” He sat next to Jaime and pulled out his cell phone.

“We’re in Arizona. We should be back in SD by five tonight,” Jaime responded.

“Hmm. Okay, so what were you saying about this party?” Vic didn’t look up from his iPhone as he spoke.

“Okay, so it’s kind of formal. But it’s an all-black party. And there are gonna be like little snacks or whatever, but no real food, so eat before you come. And um…”

“What about alcohol?” Tony interjected.

“Obviously there’ll be thousands of gallons of it.” Jaime joked, earning a laugh out of all three guys.

-------

Tony pulled up to Jaime's house and parked in the driveway. There were a multitude of cars parked up and down the street, but there were only a few houses, so he knew that the party was already in full swing, which was understandable; he was over and hour late. As he stepped out of his car, Tony thought back on the day. They'd gotten home later than expected, around seven, due to rush-hour traffic. He had to do laundry, so that took up pretty much all his time leading up to this party, and he really wished that he'd had time to take a nap, because now he was tired and nearly not in the mood for a party.

He turned the knob of the front door and walked into a raging New Years Eve party. Tony's first thought was to try and find his boyfriend, but he kept getting side-tracked by some of his friends that greeted him as he walked through the crowd. He gave a lot of halfhearted hellos and high fives and hugs to a lot of tipsy people, until he spotted Jaime's spiky haired self across the room telling a story to a bunch of friends.

Tony made his way over to Jaime quickly, but not quickly enough to draw any unnecessary attention to himself. Once he was standing directly behind Jaime, he made eye contact with some of the people he was talking to and put his index finger over his own lips, to indicate to them that they should be quiet and not say anything to Jaime. Tony put his hands over his boyfriend's eyes and stifled a laugh when he jumped. "Vic?" he guessed.
Tony was admittedly a bit disappointed that Jaime had guessed that Vic's hands were over his eyes, but he shook away his disappointment and said over the music, "Baby, you know Vic is barely tall enough to even look over your shoulder," he joked.

He removed his hands from Jaime's eyes and turned him around. They immediately hugged each other and planted a quick kiss on each other's lips.

"Dude! Gross!" They recognized that voice as Mike, who came over to them with two beers in his hands, one open and one unopened. He gave the unopened one and a bottle opener to Tony.

"That's not what your mom said like that," Jaime retorted. He, Mike, and Tony laughed at the childish comeback.
Tony took his arm away from Jaime's shoulders to open his bottle of beer, then he returned the opener to Mike. "Why'd you get here so late, dude?" Mike asked. Jaime nodded in agreement, as if he were thinking the same thing.

Tony shrugged. "I had laundry to do. How much longer til the new year?"

Jaime pointed to a large digital timer that was hanging on a wall. There were eight minutes and forty-one seconds until 2014, and honestly, that made Tony quite a bit excited.

"Tony!" a voice shrieked. All three guys turned around to see Vic and Casey standing next to each other and waving him over. "Come do shots with us!" Vic yelled.
Tony looked back at Mike and Jaime and shrugged before going to join his other friends at the bar Jaime had temporarily set up in his living room. "Sup guys," he said just loud enough for them to hear over the music. He sat down on a stool next to Vic, and Casey went behind the counter to prepare a few shots for Tony. He put five shots in front of him, and Tony looked up at him with a raised eyebrow. "What are these? Vodka? Whiskey?" It was pretty dark in there, (Jaime had done a pretty good job of turning his house into a club) so he couldn't see what they were.
"Dude, just take the damn shots," Vic said with a bit of a giggle.

Tony shrugged for a third time and threw his head back as he took the first shot. He waited a bit then said, "Yep. Definitely Vodka."
Casey, Tony, and Vic talked a bit in between each shot, and by the time Tony had taken his fifth and final shot, the countdown from 20 was starting. He stood up from his stool, and he found his boyfriend by the time there were only ten seconds left in 2013.

"Tony! I thought I'd lost you," Jaime said, wrapping his arms sloppily around Tony's shoulders. Tony chuckled and joined the rest of the party with the countdown.

"SIX! FIVE! FOUR! TREE! TWO!"

Jaime and Tony must have been thinking the same exact thing, because at one, they turned to each other and gave each other a confident kiss on the lips, as did about five other couples in the room.

Everyone cheered. Confetti flew, noise makers sounded, and everyone just got louder.

"Jaime," Tony heard Vic say from behind him. The shorter man was clutching his stomach, and he looked sick. Tony turned Jaime around so that he was facing Vic "I don't feel too good."
"Okay, um, come with me." Jaime told Tony he'd be right back, and then he led Vic down the hall.

Tony pulled out his cell phone and watched as the "happy new year" texts flew in from people that weren't at the party. He responded to a few important ones, then he got a text from his mom.
"Happy New Year, mijo! Are you gonna stop by tonight?"

He thought for a moment. Even though he'd only been at the party all of twenty minutes, he figured he wouldn't hurt anyone by leaving. He'd probably spend the day with Jaime tomorrow anyway. He replied, "Yeah, mom. I'll be there in about 30 minutes. Happy New Year."

Slipping his phone back into his pocket, he walked down the hallway, and he noticed the light from Jaime's room peaking out from under the door. He turned the knob and started talking as he stepped inside. "Babe, I'm gonna head out-"
Tony's sentence was called to an abrupt stop at the sight in front of him. On the bed were Vic and Jaime with their open mouths sloppily attached. Jaime's hands were gripping Vic's ass through his jeans.

"What the fuck?" Tony called out.

"Hey, Tone!" Vic replied excitedly. He was clearly drunk.

"Jaime, are you fucking kidding me?"

"Tony-" Jaime said calmly.

"So this is why you never wanted to fuck me. You were too busy fucking Vic!"
"It's not like that man!" Vic answered for Jaime.

"Vic, stay out of this, please," Jaime said.

Tony, deciding he wanted to hear no more, stepped out of the room, and rushed through the crowd. He got back to his car in lightning speed, and sped off, burning out the tires and hating everyone.
