Daughter of Kellin Quinn

Mountain View High

*Copeland's POV*

“Copeland, can you please stop stalling?! You don’t want to be late for school!” my mom shouted from downstairs. I literally couldn’t find any outfit to wear. Alli was sitting on my bed waiting for me to get dressed. She comes over every morning to my house and we get driven by my mom. I told my parents straight up that I am not taking the bus. I don’t care how empty it is. I’m not riding on that bacteria infested shit to school.

“So I heard Tony is coming by to wish us good luck on our first day as seniors, Cope. But I think he said he can only be a minute because he has guitar practice on a new song the band is writing,” Alli announced coming to my interest.

“Really?!” My stomach fluttered as I heard the name Tony from Alli’s mouth. “A minute is better than nothing.” I pulled my drawers open and found my cute, pink top covered in glitter. “Ah, this is a good one!”

“Dude, you should wear those black skinnies that Jesse got you the other day.” Damn. Even Alli remembered me showing her a pair of skinnies that Jesse bought for me.

“Good thinking,” I said pointing up my finger. I heard a knock at the door.

“Can I come in?” my dad asked. Great, he’s probably going give me a lecture on how this is my first year being in a public school and there’s rules. Duh! I fucking know that! By the way, I inherited the word duh from my dad. “I want to see you guys before you leave.”

“Yeah, dad just come in,” I groaned.

“Hi, Kellin!” Alli yelled waving her hand back and forth. Yeah, she’s a fan of him too. Great, I told her not to fan girl over him when I’m around. She’s allowed to call him Kellin and not Mr. Quinn.

“Hey, Alli, how’s it going?”

“Great, how about yourself?”

“Awesome as usual.” Dad…can you like NOT steal my best friend?!

“Ok, dad, that’s enough. You do have your own friends you know. Loads of them. And don‘t forget the millions of fans.”

“Ok, Copeland, don’t worry. I’m not taking Alli away from you. I’m just trying to have a conversation.”

“Well you can have one after I change and we go downstairs. Seal?” Yeah my dad and I have a thing where instead of saying deal we say seal.

“Alright. See you guys in a little bit,” my dad said turning to walk out the door. I got dressed and went downstairs with Alli. My dad wasn’t kidding about having a conversation. He really wanted to talk. Damn. Oh whatever.

I sat down on the stool waiting for my mom to finish breakfast. She was a pretty cool mom. I just had to ask, “Hey, mom?” my mom turned to me. “Yeah, baby, what is it?” I asked her, “Is high school really as it is in the movies?”

“Noo noo, not at all! That is all a lie. Everything about it.”

I took a deep breath. “Phew, good. Because most of it looks really trashy and unrealistic.” My mom placed my plate down in from of me and poured me a fresh glass of orange juice. Or as Jaime would joke Jugo de Naranja just to be funny. Yay, just how I like it. Scrambled eggs with one hash brown and a piece of bacon that was extra crispy on the side. Yes, I am quite the bacon fan. I ate my breakfast real slow because we still had an hour before school started. I sort of forced Alli to tell my counselor that I demand every single class Alli has for the first semester and I’ll be on my own second semester with only one class with her.

The doorbell rang. I hope it’s who I think it is. The door flung open. Oh. Never mind it’s just Jesse and Gabe. “Hey guys,” I moaned not to happy with the result. I see Jesse every day. There literally isn’t a day I don’t see him. This fucker is always over. Doesn’t he have life? He's married now! Jesse proposed to his girlfriend on the last day of Warped Tour last year. It was the cutest thing ever. And obviously I couldn't go *couch*dad*couch*...so I asked Justin Van Hook to record it from the side of the stage. I congratulated them when they arrived home that day.

“Hey everyone,” Jesse and Gabe said in unison. “Coming to wish you good luck for your first day, Copeland,” Gabe announced giving me a hug.

“Thanks.” I hugged him back. Jesse just plopped on the couch as he always does. Alli and my dad were still into talking about how my schedule is going to role. And again there was a knock at the door…

“Kellin Fucking Quinn!” Oh great, the douche is here. Mike Fuentes. The trouble maker. He ran up to my dad and gave him a bear hug, making his feet rise from the ground. Then he walked up to my mom and pecked her a kiss on the cheek. Good thing my dad didn't see that but he knows that he's just being friendly. And then…oh god, he’s coming right for me.

“Hope you have fun at school today, Copeland.” Oh yeah, loads of fun. Smartass.

“Thanks, Mikey,” I responded giving him the fist pound.

A little time has passed and now there’s only half more hour before school starts. I would like to look around and find my classes knowing that I didn’t go to orientation. “I’ll be right back,” I told everyone running back upstairs to get something I almost forgot. “Now where did I put it?” I searched up and down for my picture. It was a picture that Vic took of Tony when he was a little younger trying to solve a Rubix cube. Tony noticed that I liked it so much so he gave it to me to keep for good luck. I still can’t believe he knows how to solve one of those. He’s like one of those genius kids that can actually solve mind games!

There was a knock at my door. Who could that be? I said I’d be down in a minute. Was it that hard to wait? I heard my mom’s voice call out, “Copeland?”

“Yes?”

“You have a visitor,” and in came the most precious human being in the universe. His sight gave me butterflies in my stomach, tingles on my skin, and a bright pink face of being flustered just from looking at him.

“Hey, Cope! I’ve missed you.” Tony flung out his arms to me as he walked in, shutting the door behind him. I haven’t seen him in 4 days.

“Tony!!!” I flung my arms around him knowing that he would hold me close to his heart. And speaking of Tony, I found my good luck picture! It was on the back of my door, pinned tightly so it wouldn't fall. “I’ve missed you too!”

“I came by for a second to tell you that I hope high school won’t be a drag for you. Good luck making friends. I spent most of my time bummed and alone but I’m sure you’ll do just fine on your first day.”

“What if I don’t make any friends?” I questioned letting go of our tightly, gripped hug.

“That’s where you gotta be positive, baby girl! Believe in yourself and you’ll make plenty of friends. Don‘t be shy.” Oh. My. God. I fucking love when he calls me baby girl. It makes me feel so special and closer to him.

“Ok, Tony,” I said giving him one more hug before we walked downstairs together.

He stopped us half way down. He looked me dead in the eye. “Oh, yeah, one more thing. Please stay away from boys. They only want one thing.”

I rolled my eyes. “I know that already. You don’t have to tell me again. I’ve been told plenty of times from my parents.”

He turned around and faced me. “Listen I just don’t want you to get hurt and deal with the pain. All boys are assholes.”

“But, you’re not,” I mumbled through my breath.

“No, I was the same as any other boy. I learned the hard way. Look we’ll talk about this a different time alright, Cope?”

Ugh I wanted to talk about it now. “Yeah, ok.” We raced one another down the stairs and obviously Tony let me win. I tell him not to but he’s just trying to be a gentlemen.

“Aye, Copeland, you got 20 minutes left. Do you want mom to drive you now?” my dad asked.

“Actually yeah. Alli come on! I want to go searching for my classes since we have a little extra time.” I called for my mom and she told us to wait in the car while she finishes putting on make-up. Alli walked over to the car while I said goodbye to everyone. Jesse, Mike and Gabe were all playing X-box on our new 60 inch flat screen that dad bought last week. I yelled for them to pause the game because I was leaving. I fist-pounded Mike and Jesse and I gave Gabe a high five. I walked over to my dad and gave him a super quick hug. “Bye dad,” I said pressing my head against his chest.

I was walking over to the door to pull it open and Tony hurried for the door first to open it for me. He’s so dreamy when he tries to act adorable. Wait, what the hell am I saying? Tony is my friend, nothing more. Stop thinking that he’s more than that. You’ll never get him and besides, you’re too young and worthless. He wouldn’t ever want you anyway. But these bad thoughts aren't going to get me anywhere.

“Ladies first,” Tony bowed appointing me through the door.

“Why thank you. You’re too kind really,” I faked a British accent. I strolled to the car with Tony by my side. He opened the door for me. I hesitated.

“Aren’t you going to hop in?” Tony looked concerned for me. He could see that I was nervous. “Look, don’t be scared. I believe in you. Plus you have Alli to guide you through so no worries. Alright?” God, he has so much faith in me that I just don’t see. “And fuck the haters if you happen to come across any. They’re just jealous because you got what they can’t have and never will have what you got going on. You‘re beautiful, baby girl. Don‘t forget that.” Oh, his words of wisdom spring up a happy smile that glides across my face. So much happiness crosses my mind when I think of Tony Perry.

“I love you,” I mumble under my breath.

“What?”

“What?” I mimic him.

“What did you say? I didn’t really hear you.” Oh shit, wait what did I say? Oh crap. I said I love him. It’s a good thing he didn’t hear it or else I’d be in so much trouble.

“I didn’t say anything. You must be hearing things. The heat is already getting to you.”

“Alright, well imma go. Bye, Cope! I’ll see you later today if I can. Text me; but don‘t get caught. Some teachers are dick heads.”

“Ok," I giggled. He hugged me tightly for about a minute long. I saw my mom walking over to take the wheel.

“See you, Cope,” Tony waved backing away from the car. I waved goodbye as we drove to Hell known as my new school, Mountain View High.
