Daughter of Kellin Quinn

Bake Me A Cake

*Copeland’s POV*

Even though I didn’t want to go to school, I showed up anyway. As usual, my mom drove me and Alli together. My dad went off to work for Anthem Made and then he would come home or work on his new album with his band. My mom also works for Anthem Made but not too often.

I walked into school, being all scrubbed out today, clearly not caring what I looked like. Tony told me to walk in school with the biggest smile on my face, but I just couldn’t. Vic was in the hospital so how the hell could I put a smile on my face? I haven’t seen him in two days. I mentioned to Miss Shepard before I trailed out of the hospital, to call me or call my dad if Vic woke up or moved or spoke or something. Anything.

I walked into class and took my seat in the back near Bryan. We had a couple minutes before the bell rang to start class.

“Hey there, where have you been the past 3 days?” Bryan asked, turning to face me.

“Sick,” I lied.

“Oh, the common cold is a bitch.”

I wasn’t talking about that kind of sick. “Yeah, it is.”

“So, how are you now?”

I wasn’t in the mood for talking. It's kind of obvious. “Fine.”

“What, I’m trying to hold a conversation with you and you’re giving me one to two word answers?Come on, at least I’m trying to put in some effort.”

I guess I can try and cheer up. Vic will be fine. Don’t worry too much about him. “Sorry, I’m just not feeling well enough to function properly.”

“It’s ok, for today,” he said shooting me a killer smile. He faced the front and didn’t talk to me for the rest of the hour.

Class ended and he handed me a small sheet of paper before leaving the door way. I took notice of how it was written. Proper formatting with information on it.

Party at my place?
Bryan Jacobs Query
2640 Second Street: Sebring Court
-This Friday at 9 pm if you’re interested. We should get to know each other more. Let me know ASAP!
Any questions? Just ask me(: and if you wanna swim, bring what you gotta bring to the party. It’s gonna be off the hook. Hope you can come.

A party?! Yes I wanna go. It might take my mind off of things. I hope my parents let me go.

Lunch arrived. Like always, I sat down at a small table in the corner of the lunch room by myself. I pulled out my phone because I was bored and I don’t eat lunch. I observed that I had an unread message from Tony.

Turtl3<3: Remember, smile, cuz it looks good on you(: Don’t be hard on yourself. Have fun at school. -Tone Tone

Me: Thanks Tony(: I will.

I studied the same girl at the vending machine that gawked at me the other day. She was strutting her way over to me. Wait, no, seriously…why is she walking over to me?

“Hey,” she cocked a smile, taking a seat in front of me. I fixed my eyes on her without speaking. “What’s up?”

“Nothing… just trying to understand why you’re talking to me. You know you openly gave me a dirty look last week?”

“Yeah, I seem synthetic, but I’m not.”

HAHAHA. “Don’t you mean sympathetic?”

“Sure,” she turned away, chewing her gum with her mouth open and twirling her hair. “I’m Kenadee but my friends call my Kena. You’re not my friend, so you can’t call me Kena. I think Alli introduced us on the first day.”

What the hell does that mean? “Ok? And yeah she did. Nice to meet you, again.”

“Yeah Yeah Yeah. I just wanted to say hello and that I think the shirt you’re wearing is absolutely atrocious.” She got up and shot me a rude look before walking away.

Don’t be mad Copeland. Don’t be sad. She’s a jerk anyway. Remember what Tony said? Just be confident and throw a cake in her face. Wait! Throw a cake in her face? Hmmm…

6ht hour approached around the corner. I took my place in the front because we never got assigned seats.

I have a feeling I’m losing my best friend. Alli doesn’t even talk to me unless I talk to her first or text her first. I honestly loath that. She’s doesn’t even look at me during class anymore even for a quick smile. I feel like I’m either losing someone or getting closer to them. Alli is the friend I sense I’m losng. And Bryan seems like he wants to get closer to me and know me better.

I have a plan for later. I’m going home after this with no homework. I already chatted with my teacher at the end of the day about presenting and I told her that I was sick psychologically. She let me off the hook so I don’t have to do it.

---

“Can you help me make a cake?” I asked Jesse and Jack with a smile. They were over for a little. My parents come home early because there was nothing major they had to accomplish at Anthem Made. “Please?”

“A cake?” What kind?” Jesse gleamed.

“A simple one, you know, just a regular, small one.”

“You want us to help you make a small cake?” Jack said. “You’re asking the wrong people honey.”

“Yeah, we’re not experts, Copeland. We’ve never baked a cake before,” Jesse added.

Ugh! Where was Jaime when I needed him? “You guys are no help,” I rudely said walking away and plopping myself on the couch.

“Come on, Cope! Don’t be upset. We never made a cake. But…we might know someone who has,” Jesse winked at Jack. They must’ve had a trick up their sleeve because they were awkwardly smiling at each other.

There was a knock at the door about 20 minutes later. I peered at Jack and Jesse smiling again like losers to each other. Did they know something that I didn’t?

I kept my eyes on the TV until my dad skipped down the stairs like a child towards the door. “Were you guys expecting anyone?” My dad question.

We all fixed our attention to the door for our mystery person. “Hey, what’s up man!” my dad bellowed doing the whole “bro” hug thing.

“Someone asked for a cake, right?” said the man with a wide smile.

“Hime Time!!!” I sprinted to his distance and threw my body forward, grabbing his waist. “How did you even-”

“Oh a little someone someone, take notice how I said “someone” twice,” he winked at me, “called me up and begged me to come over and help you put together a small cake.”

I flashed Jesse and Jack a quick smile before making my way into the kitchen, “Thanks guys.”

“So why are we baking a cake?” Jaime stated pulling out the different size bowls we needed.

“Oh,” I gave a creepy smile. He had no clue. “There’s a girl in my school. She’s gonna wish she was nicer to me. She’s never gonna know what “hit” her.”
