Tangled In The Great Escape

"You can never be ready."

SKYE'S POV

Before I knew it, the week had flown by and Friday was drawing to a close. As I slipped into Vic's car, I could tell his tolerance level for the secrets with me and Heather was beginning to break. You have to tell him, Skye. You can't leave it any longer.

'Have I done something wrong?' he asked as he reversed out of the parking space.

'No, I'm sorry. I know I've been acting weird lately. I just- can we go to yours or something? We need to talk.'

'Brilliant, getting dumped,' he murmured under his breathe.

We drove to his house in complete silence and he let out the slightest sigh in my direction before stepping out of the car. Dizzy from nerves, I clung on to his arm as we entered the house. Without so much as looking at each other, we went upstairs and into his room.

'Remember the night after the cinema?' I began, pacing up and down the length of his room as he watched from the edge of his bed. 'Well I didn't get my period after than so I told Heather and then she came with me to the doctor and I did a test and it was positive so I'm pregnant and now there's an appointment you need to come to in a week to-'

'Skye,' he said soothingly, pulling me down next to him and wrapping his comforting arms around me. Only then did I realise I was crying. 'What's the appointment for?'

'To see if we want to keep it, to see how involved you'll be, things like that.' I began to wonder, do I want to keep it? I've always wanted a kid, and I love Vic more than the world.

'Do you want to keep it?'

'I-I guess,' I choked out, burying my face in his neck.

'Why are you crying? Please don't cry,' he cooed, lifting my head up and letting his soft brown eyes examine my every feature. His thumb caressed my rosy cheeks and I shut my eyes to stop the room from spinning.

'I was scared that you'd dump me.'

'No way,' he said. 'You're not getting rid of me that easily.'

'Thank goodness,' I breathed out.

Standing up, he lifted me bridal style and plopped me down at the top of his bed. He went over to his drawers and pulled out a pair of grey joggers which he flung in my direction, also taking a pair for himself. Shimmying out of my jeans, I slid on the joggers and wriggled under the covers. Seconds later, Vic joined me underneath the sea of material, pulling me in close to his body. My cries died down to little sniffles as I felt his reassuring arms wrap themselves around me and not dare to let go.

'Who's parents are we going to tell first?'

'I'd say mine,' suggested Vic, and I agreed completely. 'They love you to pieces.'

'Yeah, I love them too. I'm sorry in advance about mine by the way,' I said as I gripped his hand.

'It's okay,' he said against the skin of my neck. 'Um, do you want to stay the night? Maybe we could tell them at some point.'

'That sounds like a good idea, thank you.' Rolling over, I placed a gentle kiss on his tender lips and smiled a little as he kissed back. He never failed to give me butterflies, or to find new ways to intensify them to the extreme.

'You're something else,' he murmured.

'What?'

'I've never seen eyes as perfect as yours. It's like a mix between the evening sky, the Caribbean ocean and all the stars pushed together into two beautiful circles. I don't even know how they're real.'

'God I'm a lucky girl,' I said, running my hand up his side and kissing him innocently on the lips. 'Shouldn't we tell your parents I'm staying?' I giggled, playfully planting kisses all over his face.

'Yeah,' he laughed, pushing me off. 'Come on then,' he said, walking round the bed and taking my hand. With the knowledge that Mike was at a party that night, I felt a great sense of relief as I trotted down the stairs beside Vic and then followed him through to the living room.

'Hey Mum,' he said, pulling me into the room where both his parents sat.

'Oh hello Skye, how are you princesa?' said his Mum, tapping the spot next to her on the couch. Leaving Vic's side, I took a seat next to her.

'I'm good, how are you?'

'I'm good,' she grinned.

'Is it okay if Skye stays over tonight?'

'Sure! Do you have an overnight bag?'

'Um, no.'

'Vic, the poor girl has nothing with her!'

'No, it's okay Mrs Fuentes, honesty. Thanks for letting me stay,' I smiled, pulling the little woman into a hug.

'Thanks Mum,' said Vic, 'what's for dinner tonight?'

'Fajitas,' she said cheerily. 'I'll call you down when they're ready.'

Taking to my feet, I returned to the safety of Vic's side and laced my fingers with his as we left the room. Giggling, we climbed the stairs and went back to his bedroom, collapsing on his bed as soon as we entered.

Sitting up, I looked around his room and spotted an excellent painting of an abandoned house. The cracks in the wood took your imagination on a journey and the worn, torn curtains left you mesmerized as to who once lived there and why they no longer did. 'Did you paint that?'

'Yeah,' he said, sitting up next to me.

'That's amazing, Vic. You're really good.'

'Thanks.'

'No, you're really, really good. Have you showed this to anyone before?'

'No,' he said, 'I don't show them to anyone.'

'You have more?' Standing up, he went over to his desk and pulled out a large pad from underneath a pile of school books. Sitting himself down next to me, he opened the pad and began to explain the drawings - they were all absolutely brilliant.

'Dinner!' shouted his Mum, catching both of us off guard.

'Are we telling them now?' I asked nervously.

'Do you want to?'

'I just want to get it over with,' I exhaled.

He nodded before grabbing my hand and pulling me down the stairs. Going into the kitchen, I sat down next to Vic and he rested his hand on my thigh as his parents sat down across from us with a sea of food to separate us.

'Mum, Dad, we've got something to tell you,' he began, his voice shaky and uncertain. 'Before we say it, we just want you to know that we've already had a serious talk about it.'

I let a moment of silence pass before breaking the news to them. 'I'm pregnant.'

'What?' said Mrs Fuentes, her eyes filling with a mixture of emotions. 'This better now be a joke!'

'It's not, we love each other very much Mrs Fuentes.'

'Are you ready to be parents?'

'You can never be ready,' interjected Mr Fuentes, shaking his head.

'We're here to support you, okay? Do your parents know, Skye?'

I gulped, 'no. They're pretty strict about, uh, everything. I'm pretty worried about telling them.'

'If you love one another, then nothing else should matter. Just tell them that, remind them of what families should be built on.'

'Thank you Mrs Fuentes, seriously.'

VIC'S POV

After revealing the news to my parents and devouring three fajitas, me and Skye watched some TV with them before retreating to my room. We curled up in my bed and listened to the beat of each others heart, soon there's going to be a third heart I will be able to hear.

Keeping my arms around Skye, I pulled her close to me and our legs tangled as we cuddled. It wasn't long until my eyelids were becoming very heavy and forcing themselves downwards.

SKYE'S POV

Waking up, I instantly felt a wave of nausea hit me. I dashed out of bed and into Vic's en-suite bathroom, hurriedly putting the toilet seat up and emptying the contents of my stomach. Shutting my eyes, I hurled for a second time as I hunched over the pan. This is a shit way to start the day, this really fucking sucks.

'Oh baby,' said Vic, his sexy morning voice ringing in my ears. Kneeling down next to me, he held back my hair as I chucked up for one last time. He stood up and reached into the cabinet, pulling out an unopened toothbrush. Passing it to me, he also handed over some toothpaste. 'Is it like this every morning?'

I nodded, not wanting to seem any more unattractive by splattering him with froth. 'I'm sorry,' he cooed, watching me worriedly as I spat in the skin.

'For what?'

'Well I kinda did this to you,' he said whilst fiddling with the tie on his joggers, a tiny look of pride on his face.

'I'll forgive you if you feed me,' I smiled, kissing his cheek.

'Deal,' he grinned in reply.
