All Again For You

Lonely Girl

I couldn't even think I was so nervous. I sat on the bed of my hotel room, setting up my laptop so I could iChat with Mike. Rolling Stone paid for my flight and hotel for the day and a half that I would be here in New York City. I kept thinking about how the job interview would go tomorrow. The thing was that I never even applied for a position there. I guess they just liked my work and wanted me to jump on their team.

It's always been a dream of mine to write for Rolling Stone. Their magazine is so controversial and so full of a bit of everything, that it makes it perfect. But, I want to write about music, not anything else. That's something I'll need to make clear. I don't know what I'll do if I get the job. I'll be happy, no doubt, but then I'll be left with the decision of should I leave my life back in Los Angeles for a new one in New York?

"Hey baby!" Mike shouted when he finally answered my video chat call.

"Hey!" I smiled as he was holding Ludo, in my house of course, and how cute he looked at this time of night.

"How's the hotel?"

"It's nice. Just pretty lonely up here." I stuck out my lip and a small smile grew on his face.

"You're too cute. Are you nervous about the interview?"

"You have no idea. I hate job interviews, they're scary."

"It'll be fine. Hey, I just wanna let you know that Ludo showed me your choney drawer by accident." He winked then high-fived Ludo's paw.

I rolled my eyes while laughing, "You're pretty sick, you know that?"

"I'm pretty but I'm not sick." He said in a mock Valley girl voice.

"You should've come with me! I'm so lonely." As soon as I said that, I realized that if I got the job, this is what it would be like.

"Uh, somebody has to take care of our son, Lucy! I'm his dad, that means I'm next in line."

"You suck." I stuck out my tongue and he laughed. We talked for a little then hung up when I realized how late it was. My interview was at 8 AM and I was still stuck on Pacific Coast time.

I barely slept the whole night. I was tossing and turning, my nerves killing my stomach. This was it, I said to myself as I admired my outfit in the mirror, this is my moment. I made sure I looked nice, yet business-casual, yet me. I looked at the gold watch that my current boss gave me and grabbed my phone from its charger.

There were a few texts, from Tal, Mike, Benji, and Brandon, all wishing me good luck and that they love me. I took a deep breath then grabbed my small clutch and my résumé and got in the elevator to go downstairs.

As the taxi, that I hailed on my own by the way, drove to the Rolling Stone headquarters, I started to calm down as I looked around the city. We passed Times Square and the busyness of it all made me fall in love. LA was a big city, but this was so much bigger; a whole other world.

The buildings were beautiful, we passed Ground Zero where the Twin Towers used to stand eleven years ago. The people were busy and had somewhere to be and I kind of loved that.

I walked into the building and told the secretary my name and she told me to wait for a moment while she calls Jenn, the editor. I sat on a nearby chair and looked at how amazing this building was build architecturally and how giant it was!

Moments later, Jenn and another man walked side by side and spoke to the secretary, then came walking to me. I stood up and straightened out my outfit.

"Miss Garcia!" Jenn brought out his hand, "How very nice to meet you. I'm Jenn Wenner, the editor and publisher of Rolling Stone magazine and here is the managing editor, Will Dana."

I shook Jenn and Will's hands with a smile. "Nice to meet you, I'm Lucy."

Jenn smiled softly then announced, "Let's go into one of the interview rooms and get this thing going."

I nodded and followed them into an elevator and studied their appearances. Jenn was an older man, looking almost 70, with his blonde hair turning grey. Will didn't look as old as Jenn did, but I'm assuming early to late 50s.

We walked into an empty room titled the "Interview Room" and there was a big square table, I sat on one side, them on the other. I took a deep breath and was mentally preparing myself for the interview that could change my life.

Jenn gave me a big grin then said sternly, "Well, Miss Garcia, we like what we see here. You have an amazing résumé and an amazing list of references. We want to offer you a position as one of our writers..."

I licked my bottom lip and sighed out of relief, a huge smile coming from me. I got the job! I was good enough to get the job!

On the flight back to LA, I couldn't help but wonder what was gonna happen now. I was hired on the spot at Rolling Stone Magazine. Rolling Stone Magazine! This is what dreams are made of right here. I looked out of the window as I began to think about a life in New York, and it seemed great. But as of right now, I couldn't wait to get home.

A cab took me to my house from the airport, and once I arrived I saw Mike's black Cadillac sitting in my driveway next to my car, and another car parked in the street in front of my house. I walked to my front door with my bag in hand and once I opened it, Mike, Matt, Brittany, Brandon, and Ludo were all there watching tv.

"I see you have a party without me." I grinned as Mike ran up to me and gave me a soft kiss on my lips.

"How'd it go?" He asked eagerly with a grin. I looked over to my brother, his wife, and my best friend and announced as they were all waiting for my answer.

"Guys, I'm gonna steal Mike for a second if you don't mind." I announced and they all nodded, Mike looking at me weird but taking my bag and following me into my room, closing the door behind us.

He put my bag down and sat on the edge of my bed. "How'd it go?"

I took a deep breath and said, "I got hired on the spot."

I thought he was going to frown, but instead a huge grin was shot at me as he stood up and hugged me and kissed me all over. "No way! Babe, congratulations!" He sat back down and looked at the beige carpet beneath his feet, then fixed his brown-eyed gaze to me. "So, when do you leave for New York?"

@cosette_: I left that up to you and your imagination. I personally would have had them get married, but ultimately that is up to you. You can think up your own future that they had with each other and with their family and friends.

If they got married, had kids, if she made up with Austin. Their life, and everyone else's. Like Lynda and Brandon, or if she sees her parents again. You know?
