I Never Meant To Hurt You Again

Cause I Don't Want To Be Like This

“Hurry up! They’re literally right behind us!” Carrie screamed as we sped down the highway, narrowly missing cars and driving dangerously close to rigs. Not to mention the distraction of four cars full of drug dealers, and a shit ton of squad cars. All after us. It was almost thrilling enough to erase the worry from my mind.

“Take the wheel.” I told Amanda, who was sitting in the passenger seat. She undid the safety belt and sprung to where I previously sat. I reached under one of the back seats.

“Hold your breaths, this thing could be dangerous. I wouldn’t know though.” I shrugged and bit off the pin as I threw it towards the trailing vehicles.
A cloud of smoke polluted the air and we sped up even more. In all honesty we had only been doing around seventy. It somehow was fast enough to keep them far behind.

“Turn here Amanda.” I instructed and we took a road that would lead us to a small little town I knew all too well. The girls had questioned our destination greatly. They tried countless times for me to pick a different location. But I refused time and time again. I explained to them that this place was important to me. Plus I knew he’d be here. He had to be. He had nowhere else to go, and not a soul would take him in reeking of weed, booze, and just overall a wreck. Except for his too caring brother.

“Lee, is this the right way?” I got snapped from my thoughts. “Um, yeah just turn up here.” We stopped outside a little diner, that looked about as old as the Mexican man I knew owned it. “His brother should be here right now. I’ll get him and a few friends of ours, and then we’ll head out to discuss things a little further.” I hopped out the car and shed myself of my ski mask and let down my hair, knowing nobody would rat me out here. I was safe here.

“Vic, long time no see. You still haven’t gotten any taller my friend.” He laughed and walked up to give me a huge hug, only reaching to my chin. “I see you haven’t become any less of a shit starter. Come on, the guys are back in the kitchen.” I was so excited to see them. I hadn’t been around for a while, and getting the gang back together could be a great change. I hoped they didn’t mind the new additions to our little group of 'criminals'.

“Leeann!” chorused around the small kitchen. I smiled and gave multiple hugs and kisses.
“We missed you. Jesus we thought you had gotten caught.” Jaime exclaimed, still refusing to let me out of his bearlike grasp.

“Then we decided to wait it out, we knew you had to lay low for a while.” Tony finished. I sighed and wiggled my way out of the hug that trapped me.

“I know that I was gone for a long time. I just didn’t want you all to get screwed over because of me.” I straightened up and looked everybody in the eyes. It was time to get down to business. “I’m here now though, and if everything goes good, I’ll be here for a long time. We have a job to do guys. I’m asking once and once only; are you up for this? Anybody who doesn’t want to do this doesn’t have to. I know most of you have families, wives and kids. People who need you, and I won’t take you away from them. We just have to all be sure of this. Anybody?” Nobody said a word, and I knew my makeshift family wouldn’t let me go down without a fight. I loved them for this and so much more.
“Alright, let’s go meet the girls!” Their eyebrows shot up and rushed outside. I let out a small laugh, and felt somebody bump me. “We’ve got your back.” Vic promised. I nodded and saw most of my single friends talking to Amanda and Carrie. The ones who knew they could look but not touch did exactly that.

“Guys, these are some of my newfound friends Amanda and Carrie. Girls, this is and bear with me; Casey, Jaime, Tony, Vic, Kellin, Jack, Jesse, Gabe, and Justin. Then we have Alex, Jack, Rian, Zack, Austin, Alan, and there’s still more to meet later. So guys we’re headed to Vic’s place to hopefully plan this shit out. Let’s go.” I announced.

We made our way to the cute little house so close to the water. As Vic made his way inside, he froze, stopped dead in his tracks. “Hey, what’s wrong?” I asked stepping past him to get inside. I soon regretted it.
“Well look who the fuck it is. What’s it been Leeann? Four years? I guess I lost count after a while. So tell me how’ve you been?” Mike. I nearly collapsed. I didn’t know how to breathe for a while.
“No answer? I see you still have your ring. You should’ve gotten rid of it, like you got rid of me.”

“Mike, I never meant to hurt you.”
“Well you did.”
“I did it all for you!”
“Why would you leave me?”
“I love you.”
“I don’t know if I can say the same.”

I lost it at that. A sob wracked through my chest and escaped. After that they just came pouring out. Vic finally able to move ran to me before I fell to the floor. “Oh woe is me, woe is me. You don’t need love.” He spat
I never meant to make him feel like this. How could he think I wanted to go? I did everything I did for him. Everybody came rushing in. Amanda, Tony, Gabe, Alex, and Austin came to me and Vic. Trying to help calm me down and shush my sobs.

Nothing could fix me but Mike though. He’d done it before; I just needed him to do it again.

Notes

So. Yeah. I tried guys. Let me know what you think?
