Until The End Of Time

Chapter Forty-Three

So a lot had happened but right now the biggest thing of the year was happening; Mike and Erica’s wedding. Gosh they were so nervous but so damn excited. They had somehow actually managed to get Disneyland as a venue for their wedding which was the best thing ever.

Erica was currently in a tent that had been set up right by the make shift stage/alter with Jess, Aubrey, Mal, Vic’s girlfriend Emily and her father. The girls in the tent with her were the only female friends Erica really had. Jess was Chief Bridesmaid, Mal and Emily would be her other two. Jacob and Amanda were flower girl and page boy and looked so adorable in their little outfits.

“Erica my baby girl, look how grown up you are. 25 and getting married you look beautiful sugar plum” Huw said as he kissed her on the cheek. “I’m not so sure about the converse though” He joked

“Pops, please don’t get all emotional, I don’t want to cry” She pleaded “And you know how much I hate wearing high heels plus I couldn’t find any that went with this dress so I opted for my chucks” She giggled a bit, only Erica.

“Sorry, it’s just you’ll always be my little girl but I’m no longer the man that is obliged to take care of you. It’s an emotional event” He laughed softly.

“I love you daddy. I wish Caleb could be here though” She sighed a little

“He is here, you know he is” her father assured her. “Hell you have Peter Pan at your wedding, I’m pretty sure Caleb is one of the lost boys and he’s going to be sat on Peter Pan’s shoulder watching over you all day” He wiped the tear away that had made it’s way down Erica’s cheek.

“E, it’s time.” Jess told her.

“Here we go” Huw said. Aubrey went and sat at her designated seat and told the boys that Erica was about to come out.

Mike, Vic, Casey and Jaime stood alongside him. Tony should be up there but he broke his leg a week ago so can’t stand but he was still classed as one of the groomsmen.

First to walk out was Jacob and Amanda. Amanda wasn’t actually able to walk just so yet so she was sat in a little green wagon, similar to the one in Matilda and Jacob pulled her along. Everyone in the audience cooed at the vision in front of them. They were followed by Emily, then Mal and finally Jess. The bridesmaids were wearing a silk charmeuse, one-shoulder gown with asymmetric-draped bodice and full skirt, they were beautiful dresses.

Erica soon appeared at the end of the aisle with her arm linked with her fathers. She looked stunning; breathtakingly stunning. Mike hadn’t yet turned around.

As Erica walked along she smiled at her guests. The twins, Trent, Neil, Damien, Stan, Mama and Papa Fuentes, friends from many bands; some of the Disneyland characters were sat in the back row – Peter Pan and Wendy, Arielle and Belle; all of the couple’s favourites. Arielle and Jonathan were there too. She made sure they came; they even let their granddaughter come along. Mike and Erica had met Jane a few times since their first encounter and she had turned into a lovely young girl. She was now 17 and was really good at art, she aspired to be a tattoo artist and Erica had actually agreed to train her and one day give her a job in her shop.

Erica was now three quarters of her way down the aisle and Mike finally turned around, he was glad he did. As soon as he saw Erica he smiled so wide that anyone looking at him was infected and smiled along with him. Erica had a tear in her eye. She never knew why people got emotional at weddings but in that moment right there, connecting her eyes with the man she was about to give the rest of her life to, she understood. He looked so handsome as well. Erica had seen Mike in a suit so many times but this was different. It was the most important suit he could ever wear; she hadn’t actually seen him in a grey suit though. It fit him perfectly and he had a pastel green tie on, to match the colour theme. She smiled at how much detail he had put into the day. She would be so impressed when she sees the reception venue.

Her father kissed her on the cheek and handed her over to Mike and the service got under way. When it came time to say their vows the pair became nervous for they had decided to write their own and were preparing themselves for what their partner had written. The only person that had heard Erica’s was Jaime and he was blown away by them, he assured her many a time that Mike too would love them. The only people that had heard Mike were Vic, Papa Fuentes and Casey; they all thought they were perfect.

Erica went first:

Mike, oh gosh where do I start? Well first off I want to say thank you. Ever since I met you I have been nothing but that happiest girl in the world and I know that you will only continue to make me feel this way. I want to promise that I will love you with all my heart, with every piece of me until I am no longer alive; I think even then I will love you. I never even used to believe in love or even want to get married but you changed both of those things. I promise that when neither of us can sleep at 3am that we can have a Harry Potter marathon until we fall asleep. I promise to always tell you how good you look and laugh at your terrible jokes and make you blueberry pancakes. I promise to be the best wife you could ever ask for and I promise that if you mess up I will forgive you, if you’re having a bad day I will comfort you, if you need to go off and have guy time with the guys, I will do the same with my girls. I promise to love you until the end of time.

Everyone aw’d at Erica’s vows and she took the ring for Mike from Jacob who was sat on the step below them waiting. She placed it on Mike’s finger and they exchanged smiles.

Mike was next:

Ever since the day I met you in that tattoo shop I knew you were something special and I knew I needed to make you mine. I did just that. I also made a promise to your dad during the first few days of knowing you and I am proud to say that I have never broken that promise, I will continue to keep that promise too. I also promise to never ever leave you. You are my one and only, I never thought anything or anyone could be more important to me than my music but you proved me wrong. I promise to watch every Disney movie with you; while in a fort whenever you ask, which is a lot might I add. I promise to always keep our traditions going until we are like Arielle and Jonathan. We can be 60 and still sit in the middle of this place and eat our lunch while shouting bogies. We can skip our way to Peter Pan before seeing any other attraction. I promise to make you as happy as I can on a daily basis and support you with your music and your tattooing. I promise to be as great a husband as I can but most of all I promise to love you until the end of time.

Mike was given Erica’s wedding band and he placed it on her finger and the Vicar said those famous words “You may now kiss the bride”

Mike did just that and all in attendance clapped and cheered.

It was not long until the reception was taking place. Mike had hired a hall at the Paradise Pier hotel at the park. He had decorated the room perfectly; the couple was there before anyone else because Mike wanted to show Erica his work. There were many round tables with white table cloths and cute Disney related centre pierces; Erica hates flowers remember. The chairs had a white cover and where finished with a pastel green mesh bow tied on the back. A few balloons were placed around the room at the top of the room was a dance floor, then a stage. On that stage sat a long wedding party table with the same decorations. The whole room was quite the vision.

“Mike, this is perfect. If the band ever broke up you could always become a wedding planner” Erica joked.

“That sounds like a plan” He laughed

Soon after all the guests were piling into the room with them. They took their seat in the middle of the table on the stage while everyone was served dinner. It was a delicious three course meal that went down a treat with everyone. Desert was a selection of 3 things, brownie and ice cream, cheesecake or a personal ice cream party. Everyone on the wedding party went for the ice cream party but ordered some brownies to put into their bowls with it.
It was time for first dance, Mike and Erica had decided on Iris by Goo Goo Dolls as their song. It was one of Erica’s personal favourites, Mike loved the song too. They had a normal slow dance. None of those exciting break-out-into-a-dance-off type dances.

Some people joined them when a second song played; Wherever You Will Go by The Calling; another of the newlywed’s favourites. During this song Erica danced with her father who was so proud and happy for his little girl. Mike was dancing with his mother and it was so cute. They had hired a photographer who had been snapping pictures all day. They originally wanted to ask Adam Elmakias but they wanted him to be a guest and thought it would be rude to make him work so asked him to recommend someone who he thought would do just as good a job as he could.

The evening was going at a steady pace and it had come time to do the speeches. First off was Vic; the best man:

“Erica and Mike have been the perfect couple ever since they met. I will never forget that day because it was also the day I made an amazing friend. We had gone to Reading because we had some time off and were going to be going to Reading Festival that year; we had heard about Stan, this amazing tattoo artist that we just had to check out and I’m glad we did. As we walked in were actually called over by him because he wanted to embarrass Erica and introduce her to us. Embarrass her because she was getting our album work tattooed on her leg. At first I thought she was going to be a fan that we would encounter and maybe meet again at a show or something but as the night went on and we got to know her I knew that wouldn’t be the case. I could tell that Mike liked her from the minute they started talking, you could see it all over his face. Within those two weeks that we were in Reading we actually lived in Erica’s studio and we all fell in love with her, not quite like Mike did though. We never knew that someone could mean so much to you in such a short period of time and we didn’t want to leave her so we ended up recording our album with her. I’m glad we did because Mike and her furthered their relationship and they ended up falling in love with each other so much. Ever since they met I have never seen my little brother so happy and I know for a fact he will always be happy because of this little chipmunk and I will always love her as a little sister. I couldn’t ask for a better person for Mike to marry so here’s to Mike and Erica”

He raised his glass and everyone mirrored his actions and took a drink. Next it was the maid of honours turn; Jess:

“Erica has been my friend since the minute I met her. I know everyone says it but you can’t help but fall in love with Erica as soon as you meet her. I’m sure you all know that though. We met when Erica came to visit; I remember she was surprising Mike and the boys because she missed them. They had only been gone about 6 days. I knew the moment I met her that we would be friends for a long time, I knew that what she and Mike had, although it was very early on, was serious. I helped Erica secretly move to San Diego too and that’s what confirmed my original beliefs. Erica had always wanted to live in Chicago but she changed her mind due to the impact these four men had on her. Most people would think it silly, giving up your plans and changing them for a guy or your friends but Erica didn’t care about that. She cared about these guys. I love these two as individuals but I love them more as a couple. Erica helped me out so much when it came to my wedding, she actually even helped Jaime with the proposal and everything and for that I will be forever grateful and I will also be forever humbled by the fact that you chose me to be you maid of honour. I love you Erica and I love you Mike. I know it will never happen but please don’t break up because I will lose faith in humanity if you did. To the happy couple”

Jess raised her glass, like Vic did and sat down. She gave the bride and groom a kiss on the cheek and it was time for Huw to give his speech. Erica knew this would be an emotional one.

“I feel like I’m going to cry already and I don’t even care that I’m a grown man. As any father that has a married daughter will tell you; seeing your baby girl grow up, move away and fall in love is one of the scariest things to happen. You are so protective of her and scared that she will phone you up in tears because her heart has been broken by the guy she thought loved her. I have been fortunate enough to have never received that call. Mike has kept his promise. I know a lot of you are probably wonderingwhat this promise is, since Mike mentioned it earlier too. On the fourth day that Mike and Erica knew each other, Erica had a bad panic attack and ended up in hospital. When Erica was ready to come home, she sat in the back of the car with Mike and I remember it so clearly because I saw the look in his eyes as he looked at her asleep in his arms. I knew then that I had to start worrying that I might one day get the call but at the same time I felt it might never come; which I was right about. When we got home, Mike carried Erica to bed and I followed them upstairs. I spoke to Mike about how much I cared about Erica and if he was planning on dating my daughter he had better look after her. I am so proud that he kept that promise, especially since she moved to another country and I couldn’t keep an eye on her as much as I wanted to but I always knew she was in good hands. When I received a phone call last year while Erica was on tour and she told me the news of her engagement I broke down in tears. Erica had never wanted to get married which I was always secretly sad about. I always wanted to be able to see her in a beautiful gown, walking down the aisle to a man that made her truly happy so when she told me Mike had changed her mind about this tradition I couldn’t help but let out my happiness through tears. I know that these two will be together forever; it’s very rare you come across two people that love one another as much as these two so I know that they will be the greatest husband and wife you could imagine. I could never hope for a better man to be the one whose surname my daughter takes. Mike I am so grateful that you came into my daughter’s life. Thank you. “

Huw lifted his glass and sat down again, after hugging his daughter and son-in-law. They were all in tears. It was now Mama and Papa Fuentes’ turn to give a toast; Erica never realised so many speeches were given at weddings and she’s been to quite a few. I guess it’s different when the wedding is your own.

“I remember the first day Erica came to our house. Vic and Erica had planned on surprising Mike on BBQ Sunday. Vic went to the airport to pick her up and when he got home he made Mike ring her. Little did he know that she was stood in our kitchen? When she came through the doors and onto the patio I saw his face light up. A look I had never seen on my son’s face before was there and I knew in that moment that this girl was special. We also thought that any girl that goes to that much effort to surprise a guy whom she has only been dating for 2 weeks must have pretty strong feelings. When Vic informed us that Erica was going to be moving to San Diego but it, again, would be a surprise for Mike we were so happy because we loved her already and we knew that she meant a lot to Mike, we knew that her moving here would mean a lot to Mike. Over the years we adopted Erica as our own and we never wanted her to leave so when Mike told us he was going to propose we couldn’t have been happier. We honestly didn’t have him as the romantic type and we thought Vic would marry first but this is great. We know you’re already part of our family Erica but now it’s official so congratulations of becoming a Fuentes”

The parents of Mike embraced the pair and gave them kisses on the cheek. It was finally the bride and grooms speech. Mike and Erica had decided to give their speech together instead of two separate ones since they had given personalised vows and most of what they wanted to say was in those.

“We don’t really have much to say since we said it all in our vows but we had kind of planned this speech together. As you have already heard, Erica never wanted to get married originally but I think one of the main reasons she changed her mind was because of two people we met the day after our six month anniversary. Those two people have helped shape our lives over the past year and a half. They have told us many stories and gave us so much hope and inspiration about everything. They are the true definition of love and marriage. We have tried to incorporate them in our lives as much as possible. A lot of people said that those two people are what they imagine Erica and I like in 40 years, we can’t help but agree with them. So this toast is not for us but for our favourite ever couple; Arielle and Jonathan. Stand up guys” The Disneyland couple did just that and all the guests applauded them, Erica finished off the speech

“The day I met you two I wanted you to be my best friends; sorry Jaime. You came over and played bogies with us, Peter Pan was also your favourite. You are literally the coolest people I have ever met. Arielle and I actually became pen pals and we send letters back and forth very often. When I’m on tour, I send her a postcard from every city I go to. Jonathan reminds me of my own grandpa, always telling jokes and being goofy and adorable. I have always been in love with the way he looks at Arielle; as if she is the most precious gem on the planet. I want to be like that when I am their age, I want to still visit Disneyland and hang out with Peter Pan and one day I want to go up to a young couple and give them all the hope and inspiration that those two people passed on to Mike and I. I love you both and I love you too.”

She turned to Mike and they kissed, everyone cheered and applauded again. Speeches were finally over.

It was 9:30pm and the sky had become dark. A young man, that looked like an employee of the hotel came over to the table at which the bride and groom sat and whispered something into Mike’s ear, he smiled and nodded before standing up and signaling for the music to be paused for a moment.

“Guys, I have one final surprise this evening. If everyone would like to follow that gentleman by the door to the rooftop you’ll be able to see it” Erica was confused, she knew that on the roof of this hotel was a pool.

She didn’t question Mike though but walked with him to the roof, hand in hand. When they reached the top they were all told to look in a certain direction by the employee who then said something into his walkie-talkie. In a matter of minutes a firework display started.

“Ohmygod, is that for us?” Erica asked

“Yes, I thought it would be a perfect addition to our perfect day” He smiled at her

“It really is perfect. You are perfect. This day has been more than perfect. I love you Michael Christopher Fuentes. Until the end of time” She kissed him on the lips.

“I love you too, Erica Louise Fuentes. Until the end of time” They kissed again and continued to watch the fireworks.
