Who Are You?

II.

Vic’s POV

I heard the familiar ringtone start to play in my dream. It continued to get louder and louder and that’s when I realized that it wasn’t a dream but someone was actually calling me. I let out a groan and moved to my side to pick up the phone on the bedside table.
“Hello?” I said into the phone as I brought a pillow over my head, not wanting to wake up just yet.
“Vic! Good you’re up.”
“This better be important Mike for you to be calling me this early.”
“It’s nearly eleven-thirty and I’m headed to your place to pick up a few things I left there.”
“Alright, I’ll be here.”
“See you in a bit.” I hung up the phone and let out a sigh, looks like I won’t be able to go back to sleep. I threw the pillow off me and sat up in bed. I squinted my eyes from the sudden light and waited for them to clear up.
“Good morning.” I heard at the foot of my bed making me nearly jump when I saw someone sitting there. I rubbed my eyes for a moment and saw her looking at me, reminding me of last night.
“Guess last night really did happen.”
“I’m really sorry I keep popping up here. If it was up to me I would have left long ago but I can’t, something keeps bringing me back here.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know, I don’t know anything. If it wasn’t for you noticing this bracelet I wouldn’t have even remembered my name.”
“Oh yeah. Um maybe you have some unfinished business. Don’t they say that when there are wandering souls they can’t rest until they do that?”
“That makes sense, but what could that possibly be?”
“Maybe if you try to remember more about yourself that could help.”
“If only I could- wait!” She said in excitement before completely disappearing. “What if-“
“Whoa!” I flinched as she appeared out of nowhere and now stood by my side of the bed.
“Sorry, I forgot..”
“It’s ok, I think I just need to get used to this situation. What were you going to say?”
“What if you help me, you know try to remember who I am.”
“No, no, no I can’t do that.” I said shaking my head, hoping she would drop the thought.
“Come on please! The sooner I get some answers the sooner I have a way out of here which means I will leave you alone.”
“I don’t know Savannah.” She looked down at the floor in defeat and I couldn’t help but feel bad for her. I would hate if one day I woke up and didn’t know who I was.
“Don’t you even wonder…never mind, forget I said anything.” She said as she made her way to the chair in the corner of the room. She sat down on the chair and brought her feet up on the cushion.
“What?”
“I don’t know it’s probably stupid.” She said, not looking up from her legs.
“What is it?”
“Well- what if there is a reason why I keep coming here, why it seems like only you can see me and feel me.”
“It can’t just be me.” I said just as I heard the doorbell ring.
“Here’s our chance to find out.” I shook my head at her and got up to answer the door. I stepped in the living room and was about to turn to the door when I noticed Mike already in my kitchen.
“Hey, the door was unlocked.” He said before looking back inside the fridge.
“I thought you were coming to pick something up, not raid my fridge.”
“That’s just a bonus.”
“What’s his name?” Savannah said as she appeared next to me and looked at Mike.
“Mike.”
“What’s up?”
“Oh not you I was telling S-“ I stopped when I saw the confusion on his face. He couldn’t see her.
“Um alright.” I walked up to my dining table and sat on one of the seats. I notice Savannah walk by me and up to Mike as she looked at him carefully.
“He looks really familiar to me for some reason. He’s your brother?”
“Yes. You know him?”
“Huh?” Mike said as soon as he heard me. I shook my head at him and looked back at Savannah.
“No but something tells me that I might have.” She took one last look at him before turning around to face me. “Can you ask him if he knew me? Maybe that could be a start.”
“Hey Mike?”
“Are you talking to me or?” He said mid laugh as he made himself a sandwich.
“Yes you. Did you ever know a girl by the name of Savannah Thomas?” He stood still for a moment before continuing with his sandwich.
“Savannah? Not that I know of.”
“Did you see that? I think he knows something.” Savannah announced as she followed him to the seat across from me.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. Why do you ask?”
“I uh- I think I’m seeing her ghost.”
“Ghost?! Vic are you feeling alright?”
“Yes, I’m fine. Forget it, I just wanted to ask. I thought you might have known something.”
“The name is pretty common. You know how many people we have met in one month alone, it could be anyone.”
“You have a point.” I said disappointed at hitting another road block. “Alright I’ll let you finish your food. I’m going to go shower.”
“Okay.” I got up from my seat and was about to leave when Mike stopped me. “Hey Vic don’t stress too much about this name. You’re probably just tired from tour. “
“Yeah, maybe.” I said as I stared at Savannah knowing that, that was clearly not the case. I left my brother in the living room and walked back through the hallway, with my head down feeling a bit tired. I passed through the closed door and stopped walking to back track.
“What is it?” Savannah mentioned from the table when she noticed me standing in the middle of the hallway. I crouched down as I noticed something on the ground and saw Savannah appear in front of me for a look. I pulled at the piece of paper I saw peeking out from under the door but it wouldn’t budge, it was stuck on something.
“Why don’t you just open the door?”
“It’s locked.” I whispered so Mike wouldn’t hear me. “I could never get it to open. You think you can get inside and open it?”
“I’ll try.” I looked up to see her disappear and waited for the door to open but before I can turn the door knob I noticed Savannah standing right beside me again. “I can’t get in. Whatever is in there is blocking me for some reason.” I looked at her in confusion before giving the piece of paper one more try. I felt it loosen before tearing in my hold. I stood up and read the writing on the paper before showing it to her.
“I think you just found your first clue.”
