She'd rather see me dead than face me.

Chapter 42~Babies can't walk.

~Kari’s POV~
I looked in the mirror and stared at my reflection. I was huge. I heard the doorbell and headed downstairs. It was some people coming over for the baby shower. I greeted my friends as they all stared at my stomach. I guess they weren’t used to seeing me seven months pregnant. They walked in and we sat in the living room catching up while the rest of the guests arrived. I heard the front door open and i got up to see who it was. It was Tony walking in with someone behind him.
“Kari, this is my mom.” he said motioning to the lady behind him. She hugged me.
“Nice to meet you.” She said to me with a friendly smile. I returned the smile.
“Nice to meet you too.”
“Well I’ll leave you two. The guys are coming over. We’re going to be upstairs.” Tony said as he kissed my cheek and walked upstairs. I led his mom to the living room and introduced her to everyone. After a while, everyone drifted to their own conversations and Tony’s mom and I got along pretty well.
“I’m so happy that my son found such a nice girl.” Tony’s mom said to me. I smiled at her.
“Thank you. I’m really happy with him.” I said honestly. I heard the guys laughing loudly upstairs. I walked upstairs quietly to see what was going on.
“I bet this is better than what the girls are doing downstairs.” I heard Mike say. “Baby showers are so boring.” I walked all the way up the stairs revealing myself.
“So it’s boring? Is that a challenge?” I said to Mike.
“Maybe it is, maybe it’s not.” An evil grin appeared on my face.
“Hey girls, the boys want to play the relay race!” I yelled down the stairs. I heard the girls cheering and then coming up the stairs.
“What’s the relay race?” Mike asked starting to get worried. Before they could react, they were all being dragged away downstairs. Tony was pushed into the bathroom with Jaime while Mike was pushed into the laundry room with Vic. I went to explain the rules to Jaime and Tony while one of the other girls explained to Mike and Vic.
“What are we supposed to do in here?” Tony asked as soon as I opened the door. I handed him a table cloth, a big safety pin, and a bonnet.
“You need to dress baby Jaime, go outside and feed him baby food and milk, and give him a pacifier all before Vic does the same to Mike.” I closed the door and reunited with the other girls. They were all standing in the kitchen waiting for the boys.
“Ow you pinched me!” we heard Mike yell.
“Dude don’t put that thing on me you’re going to mess up my hair!” Jaime yelled from the bathroom. We all began to giggle at the guys. A few moments later, Tony and Jaime rushed out of the bathroom. Before they could reach the kitchen, I stopped them.
“Babies can’t walk.” I reminded them. Tony grunted as Jaime jumped on his back. Tony ran to the kitchen and set down Jaime. Mike and Vic got to the kitchen a few seconds later. Tony and Vic both opened cans of baby food hurriedly and shoved food into Mike and Jaime’s mouths. We all laughed watching them get baby food all over the place. Tony shoved a pacifier into Jaime’s mouth and threw his hands up in victory. Vic and Mike sighed at their loss.
“I think I’m going to be sick. See what you get us into Mike?” Jaime said as he crossed his arms. He threw off the bonnet and returned to the bathroom to get dressed as Mike did the same. Us girls were left hysterically laughing while the boys cleaned the baby food that had gotten everywhere. When Mike came out of the bathroom, I walked over and stood in front of him.
“Not such a boring baby shower after all huh?” I said proudly.
“Yea yea you win.” Mike said in defeat. Tony and I opened the presents that people brought. We got some baby clothes, baby food, and diapers. Tony opened the present from Jaime, Mike, and Vic. It was a crib.
“Guys, we already have a crib.” Tony told them.
“Well just keep it in case. We don’t know what to do with it. Plus we kinda lost the receipt so we can’t return it.” Mike said.
“Alright…” Tony said putting it with all the other opened gifts. The rest of the time, we all talked about random things and just had a good time. At about nine, everyone was gone. Tony and I put the things in the baby’s room and organized it a bit. When we were done, we both took a step back and looked at the room. He put his arm around me and pulled me closer.
“Are you ready?” he asked looking down at me.
“For what?”
“This baby.” I thought about it for a moment.
“Yes. Yes I am.”
