They'll Never Take Us Alive

You Killed What Was Left Of The In Me

Vic's P.O.V

We finally made it to New Jersey. This journey had truly been difficult to us but it worked. The only thing is that Sarah wasn't sure if her parents would still be alive. She was hopeful and that is all we really had left. It was worth a shot wasn't it?

"Down this street here" Sarah pointed to a street and Jaime turned the car down it. Katy was next to me and Mike was next to her. Marissa and Tony were in the very back and Sarah was up front with Jaime. The last two days have been very blurry when it comes to the atmosphere within the group. Sarah has been very short with me and it has made me a little uneasy. It seems to have became a thing since we found Katy, which leads me to think it was down to jealousy but the thing that I noticed the most was, her and Mike aren't fooling around anymore. Whatever was going on with Sarah was effecting her relationships with everyone in the group.

"Are you sure this is it?" Jaime asked. Sarah looked at him and nodded.

"Let's go see if your family are okay" Katy spoke up sweetly. She grabbed my hand and led me out of the car along with everyone else. She has been very clingy to me for the last two days and i honestly don't like it. I slid my hand out of hers and walked up to Sarah.

"You want me to come in with you?" I asked. She turned to me and slowly nodded. "Come on" I whispered and we walked into her parents house.

We had our weapons at the ready but luckily there was no need for them. Sarah searched the house for any clues to where they might be. "Let's go upstairs" She mumbled. I nodded and followed her upstairs. We walked into 3 rooms and found nothing. "We'll try their bedroom then if we find nothing then well atleast we tried" She informed me.

"Okay" I said and she led the way into her parents room. When the door swung open infront of us a horrible stench seeped out and into our paths. I covered my nose and then the realisation hit me. My eyes widened when I seen the two bodies of Sarahs parents lying in the bed before us. I looked at her and she slowly walked into the room. Upon her mothers hands lay a letter with Sarahs name on it. She picked it up with shaky hands and opened it. She tried to read out the letter but choked on her own voice. I pulled the letter out her hands and smiled.

"Dear Sarah, if you're reading this then you were crazy enough to come halfway across the country in order to find us. We knew you would because you've always been a survivor Sarah. The truth is don't trust the government or military, they are the cause of all this and in our time with them we learned how deceitful they were. We escaped from the prison they held us in and came home to die peacefully. The way it should be. Not one of those things or on the run. By each others sides, with the love of each others lives. I only wish we could have lived long enough to see you be in love Sarah. We know how stubborn you are so embrace the love you feel you have to force off. Time is well and truly running out and the love of your life could be right in front of you and you don't even know it. Promise us you'll go out fighting and do us proud, you always did. Love mom and dad" I read out the letter to her and she cried the full time.

"Thanks" She whispered through her tears. I folded the letter up and put it in her jean pocket. She wrapped her arms around my shoulders and cried onto my chest. I let her, it was comforting and relaxing to have her be human for once. She always acted to stiff like she wasn't really alive.

We both dropped to the floor and hugged for what felt like hours. "My mom always wanted to me to get married and have lots of little kids" She mumbled into my neck.

"Moms are all the same" I laughed lightly. She looked up at me with beautiful brown eyes.

"Yeah they are" She giggled and wiped away a tear. "We should probably go back down now, they'll be wondering where we are" She said standing up. I followed her lead and stood up too.

"Yeah, that's a good idea" I agreed.

"Um can we not tell anyone about this?" She asked with pleading in her eyes. I nodded and she smiled. "Thanks". She kissed her moms head and her dads hand then walked out of the room.

"I'll protect her. I promise" I whispered to them, I know they can't hear me but I guess I want them to know somehow.

Once we got back outside Katy ran for my side and grabbed my hand. Great. "What happened?" She asked.

"Nothing" I mumbled. "Okay guys, what are we gonna do now?" I asked for everyone opinion.

"I guess we find somewhere that is liveable. We need to build a life up for ourselves y'know?" Tony shrugged. Everyone nodded.

"Okay, we gotta find somewhere secure and safe for us" Jaime chimed in.

"What about that Mall near DC? If Katy survived for over a month there then we could probably do okay?" Marissa spoke up. "Just gotta secure it up and shut of parts of the building we ain't using. It has food, beds, clothes and other fun things to do so it's perfect" She shrugged.

"That's actually a really good idea" I nodded. "You are a brainy little shit aren't ya" I grinned. "Let's go". I let go of Katys hand and got into the back of the car with Sarah. She looked really happy when I sat next to her. She cuddled into me and fell asleep quickly. If only I could sleep as easily as her.
