They'll Never Take Us Alive

Kiss Me While I Drive

Vics P.O.V

I awoke with a mix of exhaustion and fear. Most of the time that's how I felt. Really tired or scared that today could be any of our last. We had decided to take refuge in this abandoned warehouse. Just to get our shit together and gain energy. Everyone seemed to like the idea of that but as the days grew on, I could tell that Sarah was growing impatient.

Of course her and my brother were still bumping uglies every night. It was sickening to listen to but there was nothing whatsoever to drown out the fucking sound. Jaime could see how difficult this was for me but he just didn't understand. I know it's crazy to feel this way about someone I barely even knew but she just pulled me in so much. She just had this look about her that told me to keep on trying. That she would love me someday. A small part of me said that she was right. Getting attatched to someone in this situation with dead things killing everyone is a totally bad idea. One of us could get bitten and turn. It'll end badly for us all if we continue to think recklessly but like I said. It's only a small part of me that thinks like this. A much bigger, dominant part of me wanted her more and more every day.

"Hey, um guys we have a problem" I heard. I looked up and seen Marissa standing infront of the group with a panicked looked on her face.

"What?" Tony said standing up. She told us to follow her. We all stood up and followed her. She took us to the backroom that had a window.

"Go look" She said looking even more worried. I walked over first and looked out the window. There was around 30 or 40 walkers outside.

"Holy shit" I muttered. "If that's how many there are out the back... how many are out front" I said looking at everyone.

"We need to leave" Mike spoke up.

"I agree, it's too dangerous here" Sarah agreed. I nodded.

"Okay guys. Grab everything and get your weapons at the ready. If you can kill them without using your gun, do it. Save ammo" I informed them. I guess I had taken charge a little since things were getting out of hand. We needed someone to make decisions I guess.

Everyone scurried around and gathered their things. I had a hand gun in my waist band at the ready and a knife in my hands. My backpack was heavy but that's a burden we all have to live with in order to keep supplies nearby.

We found a door that led outside, it was close to the car so we would need to make a dash for it but take out a few walkers on the way. Mostly, I just wanted everyone to be okay, no one needed to die today.

Truth is, I watched someone special to me die already. The guys know this but Sarah and Marissa didn't and I planned to keep it that way. Especially now that Sarah has made herself clear to me, that is something I guess I'll just have to get over in time anyway. If I make it that long. I sure hope so.

The girl I lost was my girlfriend. We had been together for a few months and things were getting serious between us. She was staying with me and the guys when everyone broke out and things got hazy. She got bitten early on, probably day 3 or 4 of all this bullshit and I guess it wasn't easy to get over watching someone you thought you loved, die. In times like this, you have to be ruthless and get over that stuff as quickly as you or you'll end up like the rest of these fuckers.

"Okay, let's get the hell outta here" I mumbled as I pushed open the door. There was a zombie right outside the door and I quickly sunk my knife into its head. It fell backwards and hit the ground, lifeless. "Come on" I whispered.

We quickly made our way over to the car and piled our stuff in. I kept watch and killed any walkers that came towards us as everyone put stuff into the car and jumped in. I killed one last walker and then climbed in next to Sarah. She laughed lightly at the fact I basically threw myself ontop of her.

Jaime drove off out of the warehouse site and onto the highway again. I pushed myself of Sarah and sat down properly next to her. "That was a close call" She said.

I pulled my gun out of my pocket and put the safety back on. "Yeah, tell me about it" I mumbled.

She raised an eyebrow at me. "What's up with you mr grumpy face" She pouted. I rolled my eyes at her and faced the window.

"Absolutely nothing" I muttered.

"We'll find somewhere closeby to stay the night. It's too close to nightfall to stay on the road so we can get up early tomorrow and continue onwards to New Jersey. We'll be there tomorrow, granted we find some cars with gas in them to steal" Jaime informed us.

"Sounds good" I said looking forward. Everyone agreed to the plan and then went silent. Thank God. I just wasn't in the mood to talk or hear anyone talk.

A few hours later.

We found an old house to crash in for the night. There were a number of walkers inside but we dealt with it. Mike and Sarah disappeared together as soon as they got the chance. I don't know why it bothered me so much, it's making me hate my brother slightly. Tony and Marissa have been getting pretty close too, it's nice to see that Tony has someone he feels like he can care about. Mike only cares about having sex with Sarah.

"Hey man, what's wrong?" I heard from behind me. I turned to see Marissa looking up at me. She smiled softly and I couldn't help but smile back.

"I don't know where I stand anymore. Life is honestly so fucked up that no one really knows anything anymore. I'm so lost" I sighed. She smiled and patted my shoulder.

"Hey, you're doing great. You've helped keep us safe so far and kept everyone as happy as can be in such a situation" She explained. I nodded at her words. "But tell me, what is going on in your head concerning Sarah?" She questioned.

Shit, how did she know. "Is it that obvious?" I asked.

"Everytime Mike looks at her you look like you're going to rip his face off" She laughed a little. I did too, humour is something I guess we have to keep close to us to keep us sane.

"I don't know what to do. We kissed a few days ago and then she told me she wanted to keep it clean, getting attatched is too risky. I get that, honestly but why is she fucking my brother instead?" I asked confused.

Her face grew angry. "I don't understand that either man. She has changed, I know these days we have all changed, killing has became a big part of life but holding onto our past is probably the one thing that'll make us through this. I think anyway" She reasoned. I nodded in agreement.

"That makes sense. I get that" I smiled.

"She is making a mistake with Mike, maybe getting attached is wrong but" She looked around to see if anyone was here. "Can I tell you a secret?" I nodded and she smiled. "I really like Tony and he has made it clear that he likes me back. I don't know what to do but I just can't walk away from him like that. When things rise up and a new way of life begins. He is someone I would definitely like to start that life with" She smiled, with hope dancing in her eyes. "I just feel sad that all this had to happen in order for me to find him".

I put my arm around her and gave her a hug. "Hey, that boy is lucky to have you. Go find him and tell him what you just told me, it'll make him insanely happy, I swear" I said then kissed the top of her head.

"Thanks Vic... we should do this more often" She smiled and looked up at me.

"Yeah... I'd like that" I smiled back. She pulled away and went into another room where Tony must have been.

I sat down on my own and began to look through some stuff lying around. Most things were useless trinkets and personal stuff. Things I wouldn't personally care about unless it was my own stuff. I heard a door opening and footsteps. When I looked up I seen Mike walking into the room and sit down next to me.

"Phew, I'm tired" He yawned. I looked at him and noticed he had scratches and bite marks all over his neck and shoulders. I rolled my eyes and he noticed this. "What's up with you bro?" He asked.

"Nothing man" I said shaking my head. "I'm gonna go to sleep" I said standing up.

Mike stood up too. "What the hell, you're my brother and ever since we left California you've comepletely switched off from me. What is your problem?" He demanded. I looked at him and shook my head.

"Just go back to what you're usually doing... or should I say, who you're usually doing" I muttered. He looked at me and groaned.

"I knew this would happen" He mumbled. I shurgged and walked out of the room. Fed up of his bullshit, I went to a room and luckily, it had a bed. The bed looked comfortable so I climbed in and fell fast asleep.
